A Tale of the Eternal Hunters

*Art by Dohwasura* ----- Life continues to move forward, and it seems to be meaningless as time goes on. Games were what sustained my existence, games like League of Legends. Then...I'm pretty sure I died, because I woke up...as a girl?! And next to a white floating wolf?! What is going on? ----- [*A character from LoL in The Rising of the Shield Hero*] ----- [This is a fanfiction, and it follows the canon storyline, and then it won't, and then it will. Just a cycle I guess?] **MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS** --- [Also, stability of update is chaotic. Nothing is ever truly stable in life or reality after all. For example, I could publish 1 chapter in 1 month, or 2 in a day. It depends on my mood :)] --- [Also obviously I don't own anything from other works.]

The Second Wave of Calamity

The heroes were finally in the same place a month after the summoning.

The tension in the room increases as the Naofumi glared at the two heroes and their parties.

More so towards Motoyasu and Myne-sorry, Malty. Myne's her adventurer's name, Malty being the Princess. Second Princess actually, heh.

Probably like in the novel, Myne jumped into Naofumi's party when no one would would party with Naofumi, in order to trick and frame him. She probably tried to get Naofumi drunk that night in order to frame him of sexual assault, which unfortunately for her, Naofumi doesn't get drunk. At all.

In any case, that doesn't stop her from framing him, and shedded crocodile tears in order to gain Motoyasu and the other's support. Works like a charm.

I'm glad we hightailed it out of there.

But still, I am enjoying the situation right now with Wolf, who was just as excited as watching this drama.

Ren didn't do anything, just nodding at me, closing his eyes and leaned against the door. His part just stayed silent, watching us.

Motoyasu and his party, however, completely differed from Ren's actions.

He sneered at Naofumi with disgust.

"Oh, its you."

Malty popped up behind him, frowning at him, before hugging Motoyasu's arm.

"Lord Motoyaasu can't be bothered by.

Naofumi glared at them both. I can't blame him for hating those two. Motoyas is a playboy who only trusts woman more than the truth, and Malty is just a plain bad person.

No wonder she was demoted into being the Second Princess, instead of the First. Her little sister took her place.

Oh, its you Motoyasu said with disgust, not before looking at Raphtalia

His eyes lit up, and he walked over to her, taking her hand.

"Oh, and who is this lovely lady? Let me introduce myself-"

"Um...Mr. Naofumi?"

Raphtalia yanked her hand, and turned to give Naofumi a questioning look.

"Tch, just ignore him. We were leaving anyways."

"Um..."

He quickly began to leave, Raphtalia following behind him, still confused. Motoyasu sneered at him once more as Naofumi walked past him, Myne not bothering to look at him. Just before he went pass the door, he barely turned his head and nodded at us. I nodded back at him.

As he began walking past the door, Ren spoke up.

"Don't hold us back."

Naofumi completely ignored him.

"That guy..."

Motoyasu shook his head with a sigh, and noticed us by the wall.

"Oh, Kindred! It's been a while!"

Motoyasu walked over to us, waving his hand and tryied to start a conversation. The rest of his party-an all female group, as expected of a playboy-just standing there. Myne in particular looked at me, her eyes filled with disdain and hate.

It's a shame I can't tell Wolf to maul her right then and there...

Yet.

"What were you with Naofumi? Did you know that he's a criminal for assaulting Myne! Like seriously this guy-"

"But he didn't though?"

"Eh? What do you mean? Naofumi is a-"

"No, Naofumi was never a criminal, and he never assaulted that...woman."

Wolf just glared at them with disdain and disappointment.

Motoyasu frowned at us, before confidently replying back.

"That's not true! Myne, tell them what happened!

Myne walked over to us, looking at us with her big fake smile. Disgusting.

"Brave Bow Hero, you see-"

I tuned them out. I can't believe I tried to convince him. I already knew that the truth would go in from one ear, and out the other. Especially if Myne was there, inflating his ego.

To think this is one of the four heroes that would save the world.

How frustrating.

As she was still spinning her 'very sad' story, shedding a few crocodile tears here and there, Wolf snarled, interrupting her story.

"Why are we here listening to this b**ch? Our hunt will begin soon! Let's rip them to bits!"

Motoyasu and his party tensed, Myne especially being angry.

"You-you little-!" I interrupted her.

"You're right, Wolf... we shall prepare for our hunt."

I began to leave, my hooves tapping against the floor. Wolf phased through the floor

Tap. Tap. Tap.

As we were barely out the door, Ren opened his eyes and turned to look at us, saying-

"Good luck."

We didn't respond nor turned back.

It is the next day, and we were waiting in the forest.

Wolf was always excited when going on hunts, but his excitement then can't compare to his excitement right now. This Wave of Calamity will be the first of the largest hunts we'll ever have, and there will be more to come.

Speaking of first, this is actually the Second Wave of Calamity. The first occured many months ago, that one destroyed Raphtalia's village. How saddening.

Still, this is no time for regrets, after all, the Wave will begin!

We phased out of existence, and were teleported to the area outside of the capital of Melromarc.

We looked into the sky, and say it turn red and purple, cracks in the sky appearing.

Monsters began dropping out of said cracks. We smiled in glee.

...

As we were rushing into the battlefield, we saw the spear and sword hero parties going towards a specific location. Running to the boss right now, ay?

Shaking my head, we started going after the small fries first.

They were undead, skeletons weraing armor, and zombies of several sizes.

Twang!

I fired my arrows at the heads of a couple skeletons and zombies trying to get near me, oneshotting them. I jumped, fired an arrow midair at another who took a swing at me.

As I jumped around, shooting arrows here and there, Wolf was just chasing monsters around, biting, mauling, and eating them.

"They break too easy!"

I shook my head. Of course it's easy, it's one of the earliest waves, and we're already overpowered.

We kept running around, killing monsters, until we arrived at a village.

Getting close, I saw Naofumi and Raphtalia protecting several villages who were unable to evacuate in time.

Raphtalia was slashing through mosnters, while Naofumi was blocking and pushing away the ones who got close to Raphtalia.

"What are those dang heroes doing! They should've killed the boss already!"

He growled in frustration as a skeleton managed to nick him in the shoulder.

"Damn!"

He pushed it away, only to realize a rather big zombie towered him. As he began to try to block him, I fired an arrow.

Twang!

"Lamb calls...!"

The arrow placed itself into its forehead, it backed away unsteadily from the impact. Before it regained its bearing, Wolf appeared out of nowhere, biting into its neck, crushing it.

"...Wolf strikes."

...

As the monsters began to die down momentarily, Naofumi exhaled with a sigh of relief, before looking at us.

He hesitated, before finally rubbing his hamd behind his head, looking away.

"...Thanks for the assist."

Raphtalia then walked up to us, smiling tiredly.

"Yes, we thank you Kindred."

We nodded, before noticing an increase in monsters heading towards us.

Naofumi readied his shield, growling.

"...Those guys should've beaten. the Wave Boss by now...what's going on!"

In the novel, the heroes except Naofumi defeated the Chimera easily, probably because Itsuki, the Bow Hero who I replaced, was there.

While he was complaining, Wolf and I immediately stopped, sensing something. While Naofumi and Raphtalia looked at us with a questioning glance, I turned to Wolf.

"Shall we, dear Wolf?"

"Race you there!"

"Hey-wait!"

We dashed away quickly, leaving them behind. After all, we sensed a 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 appearing. It must be the Chimera boss.

-------------------------------------------------------------

[3rd] POV

The spear and bow parties were having a difficult time defeating the Wave Boss.

It was a Chimera.

The Chimera is a four-headed monster with the body and head of a lion, the head of a goat, the head of a dragon, and having a snake for a tail.

Ren and Motoyasu danced around it, dodging and trying to land hits. The rest of the parties participated, but they were rather weak compared to the heroes.

Motoyasu ducked beneath the dragon head trying to bite him, before jumping away.

"Damn, it wasn't this hard in the game! Where are the other two!"

Ren kept slashing at its side, using several skills while dodging the snake tail.

"Tch, stop complaining, it's almost dead!"

As they were fighting, something appeared on top of the Chimerea. A mark?

It manifested in the air, a hazy, cloudy circle. Something similar to a yellow sun rose in the circe, and several purple spirals appeared in it. Seconds later a dark purple moon descended over the symbol, and the entire mark phased out.

"What's that?"

"How fascinating..."

"The hell-?"

Several confused voices were voiced out as they looked at the disappearing symbol, momentarily forgetting that the monster was still there. The Chimera also stopped, luckily for them, and noticed the mark.

It shivered.

Ren noticed its reaction right away.

It began trying to dash awa, surprising the hero parties.

Motoyasu yelled, standing in its way.

"So you're scared of us now, huh? The hell you're getting away!"

"No, it's not us...? Why is it scared?"

Ren kept thinking, slashing away at its hide, just before he suddenly heard a rough voice, followed by a familiar softer one.

"Its heart beats fast now!"

"It knows."

The Chimera screamed, trying to get away, not caring for its wounds. But it was too late.

Three white arrows swifly flew through the air, one by one hitting three of the four heads.

When the last arrow landed, a floating larger than normal white wolf head with purple marks appeared, it's teeth glowing. It swiftly moved to the last head of the Chimera. Comparing the two was like comparing a child to an adult, but it size didn't matter.

Wolf opened his mouth, and swiftly crushed the last, remaining head's neck, quickly ending the Chimera's life.

The heroes and their parties were stunned by the quick end of the boss. Ren noticed before everyone else, the masked Bow Hero appearing from the right, walking up to the corpse, and stood with her usual pose. Wolf flew back to her side.

Just before the Ren began to speak, something appeared from the corpse.

That something flew out of it, and into her. Orange and pink petals appeared around her; she was glowing in a yellow aura. And just as swiftly as it came, the phenomonon swiftly phased out with a small, musical note.

Confusion and silence emanated from the parties. Ren glanced at them, his gaze focusing on Lamb, his eyes questioning.

'What was that.'

His question remained unanswered, as Wolf shouted, Lamb looking into the sky.

"We take our 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸!"

"Only to place it elsewhere."
