The Fortress of the Chosen part 2 (III)

We followed the path going north. The noises on the distance where getting more constant, the rest of the resistance must be doing their part. If everything keeps on like this we might stand a chance.

In that moment 3 silhouettes appeared out of nowhere on the middle of the road. One of them stretched his hand and stopped my motorcycle without any effort, I went flying as a result.

"What the hell!?"

Activating the power on my thumb I was able to twist and turn on the air lowering the fall damage.

The vehicle accelerated trying to run over them, although that guy raises his arm and stopped with no problems.

Watching carefully I noticed that he wasn't using brute force to do it, an energy or something invisible was holding it. That comes from a cyan colour ring on his finger. It's like my glove?

These man have similar faces but different heights. They wear the same white tunics, certainly resemble being members of the cult of light. They are much more flashy than the other 2 on the frontier, their presence is different and impose more respect. Are they the most higher up in the command chain?

"Asriel! Are you okay!?"

Leah and the driver descended with guns on their hands shooting at him, the bullets stayed floating in midair like they just hit a wall. His ability must let him to create some sort of anti-gravity field or something alike.

Another of those guys vanished and a second later appeared in front of Leah grabbing her by the neck.

"When did he...?"

How he was capable of moving so fast? It was high speed or teleportation? I don't know.

It doesn't matter, I must save her somehow.

"Miss!"

I didn't have time to think, because her companion was running trying to help. After he emptied his pistol's magazine against the man of the ring, then he took one of the grenades of his pocket taking the safety clip. He didn't finish throwing it because it stopped in the middle of the air, next it exploded in his face ending his life in that instant.

"Samuel! You bastards!"

Leah started kicking until the man smashed her hard against the floor putting a foot on her. I could saw that he had a flashy knee pad on its leg.

"Leah!" I yelled while running towards her, however the last member of the trio stood there between us. "Get out of my way!"

With my glove ready I kept active my thumb skill and with my sword I tried to hit him, from nowhere the guy who should be in front of her appeared stopping the blow with his knee pad.

The movements of this man are inhumanly fast, I can't land a single hit. It was like he is on fast motion. What can I do?

"Asriel, close your eyes!"

I immediately do as she said and a grenade came flying and shined on the surroundings, another one came after releasing smoke. I took advantage of the confusion to get close to her.

"We must run!"

"We are so close, we just need to advance a little more!"

"Don't be stupid! You want to die here!?"

"If that's what it takes to save this city, I wouldn't mind. I don't want Samuel's and the others death be in vain!"

"Leah..."

She tried to stood up, though she couldn't. I'll like to say that everything will be alright and reassure that we'll make it, nevertheless I know it's impossible.

A gust of wind dispelled the smoke and revealed that they were surrounding us.

Dammit, I'm in the worst possible scenario, 3 against 1. If only I could build some time for her to escape or for the other members of the resistance to reach the tower.

"You're part of the welcome committee? You also came to take an entrance exam?"

I don't know how to beat them. The one who has the ability to stop things in midair is practically untouchable, for the other one I wasn't even capable of see him move, and I still don't know what kind of power the last one has.

If they decide to go on full force against us there won't be anything left of me. I hate to admit it, but I don't stand a chance...

"No, it's not necessary"

"Eh?"

I was surprised when one of them finally spoke, specifically the most unknown one.

"You have passed, already fulfilled the requirements. We have come to pick you up, Victor wants to see you"

What does he mean? Is it true? That is unexpected.

"You think I'll believe it just like that? Obviously it's a trap"

"It depends on you if you believe us or not, although it's the truth. Follow me" he said.

The others two went towards Leah. I think she's not invited to follow us after all. The goal of the rebels it's to assassinate their leader, Victor. Besides she is a normal person, that means they don't have any intention of keeping her alive.

"Stop!" I yelled and the other 2 stayed still. "I understand, I'll go with you. On one condition, promise me you won't hurt her"

"If she doesn't resists or interfere then there is no problem"

That way both of them stopped and turned around.

"You hear him, stay out of this without causing a fuss"

"Don't go, it's dangerous!"

"I'm sorry Leah, it's the best chance to save some unnecessary trouble. I know you would like to do it, but I promise that I'll make what's in my power to end this the fastest way possible"

"Asriel... good luck, don't do anything risky"

"Thanks, I'll try"

Leaving her behind I followed the men on white and we headed north again.
