The Fortress of the Chosen part 1 (I)

In front of my eyes there are many tall buildings that indicates the beginning of the urbanization, leaving far behind the rural ambient that I was accustomed for the last couple of days.

"Finally..." I let out a soft whisper after the long road I had travelled to arrive to this place.

The capital from where that strange encoded message it's supposed to come and called for the "Chosen by the light" to gather.

With what purpose? I don't know. If someone could tell me the answers of why the world is in this current state, then it definitely deserves the risk.

At the distance I only see skyscrapers and the grey colour of the asphalt everywhere, that makes a great contrast with the green of the open fields. How much high can they reach? I wondered unnecessarily after contemplating the scenario.

But what called my attention even more wasn't that, but a little detail about it.

Every city I visited so far until arriving here had some kind of considerable destruction. One even conserved half of their structure and others not so lucky had been eradicated entirely of the map.

However, this place is different. Only the buildings that where on the most outside part of the city showed some minimum damage, probably by some sort of creature that wanted to enter. Strangely enough the deterioration stop there.

On the inside everything seems intact, abandoned, but still intact. In comparison to what I have seen before it's suspicious.

The beasts appears to be attracted somehow to human settlements, maybe due to nutritional needs. I didn't saw anything in the most far away place on the countryside, except for that wild lizard a couple of days before.

Nevertheless there are no signs of this happening here.

Perhaps it exist some kind of factor that made the creatures to lose their attention to this place? Or someone is keeping them away?

I started to walk slowly uncertain of what could occur when suddenly I felt a strong noise coming close to my feet and made me came to a stop.

What's happening!? It was like a little explosion.

I looked down and saw a tiny hole. From a bullet? But looking closely I can't find any remains of a projectile. It's strange, clearly this orifice is recent and I doubt it's from a natural phenomena.

I decided to step forward, and once again it happens. An intense impact a few centimetres from my feet destroyed the concrete nearby. This sudden sound that prevents me from moving forward is like compressed air... why is that? What causes it? Or perhaps, who is causing it?

Analyzing the situation I think I understand what's happening, my suspicions that there is someone keeping away the undesired guests seems correct and by some reason I'm also part of his objectives.

If it's really a person, can't he see that I'm a human and not one of those beasts? What kind of weapon is he using? Been able to made this type of damage, maybe it's a chosen by the light?

I don't sense anyone close by so probably it must posses a device made for attacking at long range. If he's warning me to turn back and leave, I'm sorry for the disappointment but that's not an option.

The most important thing for me right now is to trace his position and find out what's happening. Without any more preambles I manifest my glove, took out my backpack and throw it aside to make me lighter, then I started running full speed ahead which resulted in an hostile reaction by who I assume is watching.

I activate the power of my thumb to respond better and being able to understand the pattern of what attacks me, all indicates that is some kind of sniper, the rhythm of every impact plus the fact that I can't see anyone around makes it more obvious.

If the one who wants to stop me is the shooter type it will have a hard time to land a hit if I keep on moving. With my dexterity at max and more focused I can make unexpected twists from one way to the other evading every intent of hitting me.

"Haha, good luck with that!" I yelled while I got close to a building nearby.
