Homecoming (II)

Retaking the journey we went by a sign that indicates there is a town a few kilometres from here. I hadn't seen it before, because I took an alternative route following north trying to evade the main road.

"What's wrong Maria?" I asked her when she stayed still looking west.

"You think that the inhabitants of that place will be alright?"

"I don't know. The road is not so damaged, maybe there are still people living on the inside"

"Can we go check?"

"I think so. Although we'll lose some time, are you sure?"

"There is no hurry on coming back, right? Perhaps there is someone who needs our help"

"Maria, I know that you say it with good intentions. Nevertheless don't forget what we talked about"

"I know, I must not use my powers on front of anyone. But Asriel, what if there is someone seriously injured? Maybe I can save their lifes"

How can I say no to a pretty face like that? Is this how a father feels when he spoils her daughter?

"You really are a good girl. Alright, let's go check"

"Really? Yahoo!"

"On one condition, you'll only utilize your powers if it's truly necessary. No healing minor wounds or scratchs, also I want you always by my side, got it?"

"Okay~"

She got close and grabbed my hand and then we move on.

The frontier of the city was destroyed like expected, for my surprise there were people living here. The inhabitants were roaming on the streets trying to live their lives as normal as possible considering the current situation.

Inevitably we took many suspicious looks while we wandered around, maybe they aren't acostumed to dealing with strangers.

"They don't look so friendly"

"... it seems so"

Maria was hidden behind me enduring the scene. I'm surprised that despite her fragile and timid nature she poses a golden heart, even trying to overcome everything if she's able to help a stranger. Its thanks to that kindness that I'm still in this world.

Suddenly a loud noise was heard from afar, similar to many pans being hit constantly. After hearing it the people started running terrified.

"What's that? It's some kind of warning?"

"Asriel, over there!"

She pointed to a side of the street, there were many man and women escaping from something.

"There's no doubt, is one of them. Let's go"

"Okay!"

Both of us went to the end of the road and a couple of beast appeared spreading chaos on the citizens. This 2 are reminiscent to bulls, with exaggerated horns and voluptuous bodies.

"There are 2? This is bad. Maria, go seek shelter"

"What about you?"

"It's dangerous, just do what I say"

Ignoring her next words I go to draw their attention. I have to distract them and made sure to concentrate on me so that she won't be a potential target. Now that I'm 15 meters away from them they stood still and looked at me.

I guess they must be fast, so it'll be best to have my agility to evade them easily, I'm on a disadvantage after all. I materialize my glove and took a stance. Now with my right hand on my chest I proceed to call my katana.

But for my surprise a force like a strike of air didn't let me.

What the hell? I checked the sensation on my hand and noticed that my weapon was still there. Why it doesn't come?

"Asriel watch out!"

After hearing her voice I raised my head and noticed that both creatures were coming towards me. Dammit, I got distracted!

Quickly I activated the power on my thumb and jumped over one of them, with my leg I managed to go over it, falling behind him without any problems, although I couldn't evade at all the attack of the other one that came later. Despite I moved away he managed to bury his horn on my right arm.

"Ahhhh!"

He raised his head with me strung on it, I hit him with my glove and thanks to the repulse he shake and I was free. I fell to the side and rise up as fast as possible. The two turned around once again running to me.

"Asriel! Are you okay!?"

"Maria, what are you doing here!? I told you to stay away!"

"But you're hurt!"

"No buts and leave! I can still deal with these beasts!"

I'm able to move my hurt arm with pain and once again I try to call my katana, the same sensation as before prevent me from doing it. Why is this happening right now!?

Don't get distracted, here comes the bulls. If it's inevitable I'll have to kill them one by one with what I got on my hands, although if I start to charge my beam of light I'll lose my dexterity. In that case...

"Hey you, stand back!"

In that moment a strike hit the ground spreading dust without giving me the time to react. My enemies stopped because of that. Behind me a man appeared.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"We'll introduce ourselves later, help me get rid of these"

I saw that in his hand he was holding what seemed to be a mace with a chain, at the end of it was a spiked ball. All of his weapon was of a cyan colour. He's the Spiritist of this town? I'll have to check it later.

"Alright, then leave the left to me"

"Understood, I'm going for the right!"

Both beasts were unconcern by the attack from before, taking advantage of that I have started to charge my index finger. I run getting close to my objective and about 5 meters the shot went piercing his head. To my side I saw as the spike ball raise into the air growing many times its size and crushing the other.

Their corpses stayed on the floor and slowly started to disappear.
