A Simple Cultivation

Every empty book and paper has potential for a great story, it is the job of the writer to discover it. This story is a test and experiment for me, discovering the story as I go.

Chapter 3: Do Gooder

"Have you finally woken up," I stared at the young girl who had been in a food coma and gotten the sleep they needed. I gestured with my hands. Do you have anywhere to go from here?

No, no one.

"aish!" you can stay with me for now. I walked outside the restaurant with the young girl next to me, and we walked down the street, which had lost some of its crowd. The sun had been getting low, and people were ready to go home.

I got her the occasional treat, toy, jewelry. But I lacked the idea of what else to do for her. How else was I supposed to help her? I guess I will have to bring her back to the sect.

I walked back towards the sect, and we reached a little after sundown. I walked through the front gate, covered with dragon murals and statues of all mythical creatures. The guard dared not stare at me but glanced at the little girl who tailed me close behind.

They all look the same, I didn't notice the difference between the cultivators, the clothes, swords, height, size, and shades of skin colour. Their faces blurred into a single blend of colour and features.

"Aish, maybe I am too far gone, Haoran. I don't know how to do good like you. I did have one step though, fed a malnourished child-" I felt a little poke on my back.

I turned around, and the girl had a pout on her face, "did you punch me or sneeze on me? No, who cares, how did you know what I said?"

I knew you were saying something mean! I laughed and shook my head.

"Grand Elder, is this a new disciple?" I turned to stare at a middle-aged man standing before me. Filled with maturity but not a speck of grey hair.

"Who are you?" I squinted my eyes, and the cultivator had his mouth wide open. He remembered his manners and slammed his mouth closed.

"Grand Elder, I am the newly appointed Elder Foggy Mountain."

"And what did you want, Foggy Mountain?"

"I asked Grand Elder whether you have finally chosen a disciple to pass your skills onto."

So that is what he was bothering me about. The council has been nagging me to pass on my skills before I die, but it's not like I'm going to die anytime soon. I turned to stare at the young girl for a minute before deciding, "She will be my disciple."

"I see..." He stared at the baggy, ripped clothing she wore and the blemished skin and scars.

"Do not question my decisions, Foggy Mountain."

"Yes, Grand Elder, I will also inform the Sect Leader."

I sighed and knew trouble was coming.

And I was right, for before I could even enter the main pavilion...

"Grand Uncle! What utter bullshit!"
