Chapter 16: The Red Bond
Micah tried to keep his distance from Rory as Stony drove them away from Times Square Studios. There was space between them in the back seat, but it wasn’t the physical distance he was concerned about. It was becoming increasingly difficult to shut off the sound of her emotions. It was the only way he could describe it. Her emotions carried a frequency, and her sadness a dull throbbing beat he couldn’t tune out.
Sensing emotion was part of being a Shifter, but he’d never experienced it this clearly before. When he was in his wolf form, it happened effortlessly, the thoughts and emotions of humans, animals, and other Shifters a seamless connection. But in his human form, he had to really focus to feel it–except with Rory. With Rory, her emotions radiated off her like sun baked concrete on a hot day.
“Thank you for getting me out of there,” she said, staring out the window.
