CHAPTER 9

Old Frim didn't pay much attention to the way Reily addressed him; after all, he had gotten used to it, though it had bothered him initially, and had asked Reily not to call him that.

"Hello, Reily. It's been a while since I last saw you. How have you been?" said Frim, with an air of familiarity.

Reily smiled and replied in kind:

"Not bad. Had a few minor mishaps, but nothing serious." he said, raising his right arm, on which he held the cloth bag, and rested it on the counter.

"I see"

Old Frim didn't bother asking further. If Reily wanted to inform him about the incident, he would have done so already. He took the bag and opened it to begin examining what Reily had brought this time.

Seeing the smile on Reily's face, Frim was curious to know what was inside the bag.

"Let's see what you've brought me this ti—"

Frim's words caught in his throat as he began to examine the materials inside the bag. He picked it up and turned it upside down, emptying its contents onto the counter.

Furs, horns, and some skeletons of what appeared to be a small creature, piled up in a chaotic mess.

Frim carefully examined the materials, assessing them with expert eyes before nodding with a look of mild surprise.

"Not bad, Reily. Really quite impressive. I'm amazed by the quality and quantity of these materials. It's as if they were separated from the animal's body by a professional, without damaging them or discarding any good parts. Have you been taking skinning lessons lately, or did you hire someone else to do it?"

He continued to examine the materials carefully, one by one. The more he inspected them, the more impressed he was by their good condition.

As a long-time employee of the emporium, he had had the opportunity to examine and evaluate countless items, and these were undoubtedly of good quality.

Although they were the remains of a unawakened horned rabbit, a creature like the snake with green scales, which wasn't very difficult to find and hunt, it was still an animal whose skins and meat sold very well. Their horns, regardless of the rabbit's rank, were used for the creation of many tools and weapons.

Of course, the stronger and higher-level the horned rabbit, the higher the price their remains could fetch. And these, although they were from a rabbit that clearly had not yet evolved, due to their good condition, could be sold well.

He looked up and fixed his gaze on Reily, who maintained his smile. This time, this boy had truly exceeded his expectations, and by a large margin.

"Something like that" Reily said, and continued

"So, how much can you give me for all these?" he asked.

Old Frim finished examining all the materials and said

"These materials, although they come from an unawakened horned rabbit, are still very good. Since they are undamaged, and the furs have already been cleaned thoroughly, I can give you:

10 copper coins for each fur, 5 copper coins for each horn, and 8 copper coins for each of the rabbit skeletons."

"So, in total, if you want to sell all of this, I can give you a total of one silver coin and fifteen copper coins, or alternatively, 115 copper coins."

'115 copper coins?!'

Reily, although he expected a good sum for these materials, the final price still exceeded his expectations. This amount was nearly six times his savings.

"I accept. I'll take it in copper coins" he said without hesitation.

Old Frim chuckled at the sight of the boy's happy face and said,

"Give me a moment, I'll go prepare the money."

Saying so, he went away for a few seconds and returned with a bag full of coins. As he handed the bag to Reily, he asked,

"Are you interested in opening a bank account to deposit your money on a dimensional card?"

Taking the bag of money from Old Frim's hands, Reily thought for a moment.

It was very common for people in this world to use dimensional cards to deposit their money. Using these cards made transactions much smoother and easier. Almost everyone who earned a decent sum had one of these cards.

Reily hadn't had the problem of acquiring one of these cards before because it required at least 50 copper coins to make them, and he, who was still short of money, didn't have this need. But now it was different. In the future, he would need one of these cards for almost all transactions.

Of course, he had his "storage" where he could safely keep his money and take it out whenever he needed it. But it was a different case when he would need to pay large amounts of money all at once in the future.

He couldn't just fill a bag with a large number of coins every time and pay with that. It was inconvenient and impractical. It would probably be frowned upon by everyone.

He decided to agree to the proposal.

Old Frim left once again and returned this time with a card larger than the typical credit cards used in his previous world. Old Frim deducted 50 copper coins from the total amount and loaded the rest onto the dimensional card.

To make transactions using these cards, all one had to do was to bring the card close to another dimensional card or to the appropriate devices for payment, which could be found in almost all shops.

Reily chuckled as he thought about the payment terminals used in his past life. Although this world was very similar to the medieval period of his previous world and therefore backward in terms of technology, it still had its own technology based on magic. This new technology, in many ways, resembled what existed in his previous world, as in this case, with dimensional card.

Reily took the dimensional card from Old Frim. He slightly bit the thumb of his hand and let a drop of his blood fall on it.

Seeing this scene, Old Frim couldn't help shaking his head. He was about to hand a needle to Reily so he could prick his finger and draw blood, but the boy had beaten him to it and bitten a small piece of flesh from his thumb.

The card, like a sponge, quickly absorbed the drop of blood, and shone for a moment, a sign that it had recognized Reily as its owner.

This was also a form of protection to prevent being robbed by someone in case the card was stolen or lost, and picked up by someone else. If the card were used by someone other than the original owner, it wouldn't work, as the card resonated with the person's blood upon contact.

After finishing binding the dimensional card to his blood, Reily bid farewell to Old Frim and turned to leave the store. As he walked away, he thought about his next hunt.

This morning, after he woke up, he had received his daily mission for today.

DING!

[---------------------------------

[Daily Mission]

- Hunt 10 beasts.

Mission State (0/10)

Rewards:

- 40 EXP

Time Remaining: 15:53:02

---------------------------------]

This time, the daily mission didn't require him to kill a specific beast but simply asked him to hunt 10 beasts. This made him wonder if the daily missions were random or generated based on some factor. The

 same went for the reward.

This time, instead of a skill, the system would give him EXP. Although it didn't surprise him much, it made him wonder what EXP meant for the system. Before, he thought it was the amount of mana extracted when killing a monster, but now he had doubts. Where would the system get this extra EXP to give him if the monsters' EXP was given when they were killed?

'Maybe this is related to the system's origin'

Reily thought as he prepared to ask the system for more details. Just as he was about to ask the question, he was stopped by another notification that caught his attention.

DING!

[You've received a special mission.]

'A special mission?' Reily wondered curiously as he opened the mission window. The mission window opened before him, and what was shown above astonished him.

[---------------------------------

[Mission]

- Hunt down an awakened beast.

Mission State (0/1)

Rewards:

- Skill: Appraisal

Time limit: none

---------------------------------]

'An awakened beast?!'

The mission was certainly worthy of its name. Killing an evolved beast was anything but simple for an unawakened person. Even if the creature in question was a low-level beast, it was still difficult to hunt it down if one wasn't at least awakened.

The boundary between a normal subject and an evolved one was quite vast. As beasts evolved, they not only became stronger but also developed new abilities. The higher the rank of a beast, the more powerful and cunning it was.

At a certain point, they could develop intelligence that could rival that of humans, and if the beast was an A-rank or higher beast, it would be even more superior in this aspect.

There were some areas of this continent that were occupied by these monsters that had even reached the rank of Overlords, like the southern part of the mountain range, which separated the continent from the dark lands, the lair of one of the most terrifying monsters of all time, the dragons.

Reily was glad that there were no time and level requirements for the type of magical beast he would have to hunt down. He had decided to take his time to complete this mission. He wanted his growth to be gradual and steady.

If he were to try to hunt down even an F-rank beast, which was the lowest rank, he would still be in danger.

Thinking about this, Reily put his dimensional card in his pocket and began to head out of the city to start his daily hunt.
