18 Meeting the Cullens 3

While Emmett, in his own way, was able to get good information out of Paul, Edythe was still thinking about how to talk about Paul. When the subject of Paul came up, she could read Kate's mind and know the truth.

Kate really liked Edythe and trusted her. Unlike Edward, Edythe didn't normally read people's minds, but Kate didn't know that Edythe would do it for Alice's happiness. So Edythe started talking about Alice to change the subject to Paul.

"A few years ago, Alice came to us. Carlisle was happy thinking that Alice could be a good companion for Edward, but Alice wasn't interested in Edward, and Edward wasn't interested in her," said Edythe.

"But they became good siblings. Alice is now closer to me and Edward, and only Rosalie can compare to us in how much we talk to Alice," said Edythe.

"That's good. You and Edward had difficulty getting very close to your siblings because of your powers. I'm glad Alice became your good sister," said Kate.

"Yes, and Paul? How did he come to your house and enter your family?" asked Edythe.

"Paul? Just like Tanya said, his story was very similar to Alice's story. He came to our house because he heard from another vegetarian vampire that we were vegetarians like him. He wanted to meet other vegetarian vampires," said Kate.

"So Tanya invited him to stay at our house for as long as he wanted, and it's been 10 years. I think he liked our house," said Kate, joking.

"And when did Paul and Irina find out they were mates?" asked Edythe.

"Mates? It's not like that. Paul and Irina are just in a physical relationship. Of course, they like each other, but they are not soulmates. In fact, the first vampire in our house that Paul liked was Tanya," said Kate.

Kate enjoyed gossiping about her sisters, especially because she held some resentment towards Paul for not liking her back the first time around. Additionally, the Cullens were like family to Kate, and the relationship between Paul and Irina wasn't a secret.

Edythe didn't know how to react to this information. It definitely meant that Alice had a chance with Paul, and a high chance at that since Paul seemed to like casual relationships and didn't love Irina.

Alice would certainly be happy to hear this, but if Paul didn't love Alice and one day found his soulmate, Alice would be devastated. Edythe knew how difficult Alice's life was when she was human. Alice was also lonely for many years until she found their family with her powers. Alice had shared how she hoped to meet her mate before joining their family, but Alice never had a vision of her mate.

After a few hours, the Cullens gathered again after finishing their conversations. Sometimes vampires could talk for days on end since they didn't need to sleep, but Emmett and Edythe knew that Alice was anxious to hear what they had discovered.

"So, guys, don't keep me waiting any longer. Tell me what you found out about Paul and Irina," said Alice, eager.

"I can go first. Jasper and I asked Paul several things that weren't related to him and Irina. In the end, he said it would be interesting to have someone to do sports with so he wouldn't get bored," said Emmett.

"So I thought, like Carlisle, if Paul came to live with us, Alice would have a better chance of winning him over, and Irina wouldn't come with him if she wasn't his mate."

"Paul said he would agree to come to live with us in the future, in 12 years or more when we move again because he said he wanted to stay longer here in Alaska to study and... to be with Irina," said Emmett.

Alice was getting more and more excited when she heard that Paul could come to live with them in the future. After all, when Carlisle invited Paul, he didn't refuse, and it was Tanya who refused Carlisle. So Alice would have a better chance.

But when Alice heard that Paul wanted to stay longer in the Denali coven to be with Irina, she became sad again. Rosalie nudged Emmett for being careless, but Emmett just suffered in silence, after all, he couldn't lie.

"Don't be sad, Alice, it may not be so bad. I asked Kate, and she said for sure that Irina and Paul are not mates, they are not soulmates, they are just having a casual relationship," Edythe said, seeing that Alice was sad.

"Edythe, if you knew this, you could have said it before, so Alice wouldn't be sad. If they're not mates, Alice has many chances, after all, she loves Paul and Irina doesn't seem to love him," Rosalie said.

"That's why I didn't want to say it. Irina doesn't love Paul, and Paul doesn't love Irina. It seems like he's a little superficial. Kate said for sure that Paul and Irina were not mates, because the first vampire in the house that Paul liked was not Irina," Edythe said.

"He liked Tanya, but since she's in love with Edward, she refused Paul. Then Irina got together with Paul and they've been together for a few years. I'm afraid he might end up with Alice, but break up with her if he doesn't love her," Edythe said.

The other vampires were quiet when they heard this. It was certainly worrying that Paul wasn't serious and liked several vampires and could easily change girlfriends.

If Paul knew this, he would cry. He had only had two girlfriends in his life, his former wife in his previous life and Irina in this life. He just wanted to change, since he was a vampire, and that's why he tried to be with Tanya. Then he got together with Irina and was with her until now.

Paul knew how intense love between vampires could be, and if he felt such love, he could break up with Irina. If it weren't for that, he could even continue living with Irina for the rest of his life.

But the situation wasn't what Paul thought. Alice really loved him and was his mate who would never abandon him. Alice would stay with Paul even knowing that in the future she could be abandoned. After all, it was better to spend a few years with Paul than to live alone for a long time.

And Irina had no love for Paul. As soon as he left the Denali coven, Irina would break up with him and wait for her mate. If her mate didn't appear, she would find another romance in the future.
