Wang Yu
I read the whole novel and it is a good read! If you're looking for a novel that makes you feel (very) special and get the chills right from the start, this novel may not be for you. The MC eventually becomes an immortal but starts off as a mortal. If you like yoinking all the goodies though, this novel is definitely for you.
So far as others have stated the MC is very ordinary, which I feel fits the title well. If I were to put the MC in another xianxia story, he would be the character that you would overlook. He does not have some special aid to move him through cultivation. This is the story of the common person and not a chosen, a good read.
This is my favorite novel but it's always driven me crazy at the slow translation progress. Thank the lord for whoever picked it up after the new years! Hooray! Anyways, the review! This lives up to it's title. It's more like a diary of the life of a cultivator. Sometimes it can be slow and plodding, but I love it. There's always something going on, even if it's just detailing the progress that has been made in his cultivation or the future plans. The beginning arc is spectacular, it's a slow burn and the first boss battle is downright amazing. The story continues in that manner, there's a lot of slow burn and then huge epic confrontations. Another thing people may not like, but I love is the main character is cunning and focused. He doesn't care about face or getting offended. His goal is to become an immortal. To be more powerful than anyone else. It's like the times when you were a kid and you had to eventually realize that words can't hurt you. Blowing your top over essentially nothing is only going to get you in trouble. The main character here knows this and doesn't waste his time and energy on nonsense. This also creates less of an exciting adventure at times but its far more true to his character and good decision making. Regrettably, its hard for him to form relationships with others, but again... its more of a truth of their world. If you can barely escape with your life and end up surrounded by strangers eager to take advantage of you, it can be difficult to put your neck out there. I quite love this novel though, it's not just a foolhardy idiot who can't take the smallest insult running into silk pants young masters and the arrogant sect leaders. He doesn't take it upon himself to right every injustice in the world and then somehow triumph over them with his ridiculously powerful abilities. He doesn't just stumble upon heaven defying luck over and over again and gain endless opportunities. Obviously, he does have a cheat, but if he didn't then why would he be the main character of the novel?
A slow paced novel, the MC always think before he act and is actually low-key (not your others MCs where they say I need to stay low-key, but just does the exact opposite few paragraph later). The MC start as a poor boy, in martial art sect (martial art and cultivation are different, an MA is still considered mortal, a cultivator is considered an immortal), and for some reasons he start his cultivating, from this point and onward all his move are calculated and his goal are doable, neither lucky nor unlucky in his hunt for the thing he needs to cultivate. Pretty much all the conflict are related to benefits (fighting over treasure, pills and so on), and the most important part it's "FREE FOR ALL", (again it start as FFA and it's end in FFA, the people only gang the one who picked the treasure) and it's not always the MC who picks the best one. Overall I find this novel quite relaxing. As everything in it is balanced. Tough the lack of romance may be a problem for some, but it really does suit the novel setting.
I wish Qidian would post novels from WW that need to be posted more like this one. At the current pace of translation on WW it's going to several going to take 5+ years to finish translating a finished story and it's probably my favorite Qidian novel too. The characters have depth and the world is interesting unlike most wuxia novels.
the biggest issue this novel has is that it doesn't have an ending, so if you read this to completion don't expect anything to be tied up. the mortal realm stuff is actually really well done; the locations, people, and ideas are really well portrayed. it even has a really amazing war that happens at some point. after the mortal realm the novel kind of takes a dive and isn't nearly as interesting, but I still found it enjoyable for the most part. the main reason this got such a low score from me is that it has no ending so I gave story development 1 star, other than that the character design is right up my ally and the world building is pretty nice.
Hey guys, i have suggestion. We all know that Q owns the original novel and WW owns the translations. Why not Q force to remove all this translated contents from WW and let them be. And Q to start the translation from SCRATCH. That way everyone is happy or sad... We also know that everything comes down to business. Because its lucrative, big companies always wants to get the big chunk of the pie. Its the real world.
