12 A Rat with a Side of Death

There a rat sits in a tree. Covered and infused with shadows, its presence concealed. Ready to strike. The rat sneaks into the camp and looks around. It counts 1, 2, 3, 34 goblins. One of them had reddish skin with brown, uncombed hair. He sits upon his throne, watching over all his minions. He wears pants and a shirt that he stole off a body, with a spear propped up next to him. This is a Hobgoblin. It is the most common path for a goblin to evolve to.

The rat could clearly sense from the mana in the hobgoblin that he was the strongest. Both of them had evolved once, tier-two monsters. They had a pretty even footing, so the rat would have to be sneaky. The rat proceeded to charge the base without a second thought. Sneakily. It pounced at a goblin, deactivating [Presence Erase] and activating [Focused Muscle Strengthening] and the using the spells [Strength Enhancement] and [Speed Enhancement]. With all of its buff skills activated it used [Burrow] and put a messy hole through one goblin. It had landed smoothly and went through another 2 before hearing.

The rat held off on spending those points to focus on the battle… well almost. It puts 2 points into luck. Why? Because why not. It then clawed through another 2 goblins. Many of the goblins in the vicinity have gained some distance between them and the rat. The rat ran after a group of 6, and while viciously murdering them, gaining a level, and leveling skills, it knocked over a torch with its tail. This caused the torch to light a tent on fire; this fire began to spread to other tents and huts. Many goblins inside were burned up and went towards the rat's XP. So far the rat has killed 11 so far and the fire has cooked 10. There were only 13 goblins left, including the hobgoblin.

The rat ran at the group of 13 and ripped through 2 in a row. 5 of them had fled the camp, wanting to preserve their own lives instead of the groups. Good choice. The hobgoblin stood from his throne and roared at the top of his lungs. The rat could sense his roar carrying magic in it, which buffed the stats of his 5 other goblins. He began using spell after spell to upgrade his subjects to their absolute limit. The 5 goblins ran at him. Two carried shields, two carried spears, one had throwing knives.

The rat lunged at the one with a shield, but was expertly blocked off. The one with knives climbed a roof and threw a knife, hitting the rat in the thigh. The rat used its enhanced muscles to push the knife out of its leg. Then the skill [Regen Enhance] kicked in and started to heal over the wound. The goblin knife thrower was startled by this unnatural healing speed, the other 4 goblins were also taken by surprise. The rat took advantage of this and slipped under the shield user. It then used [Distant Scratch] to send claws made of aura to remove the left foot of the shield user and one spear user. The two tumbled down in a yelp of pain, grabbing where their now missing feet had been. The other spear user jabbed at the rat and hit it in the back. The rat made no noise and shrugged it off, as it used its tail to snap the spear like a twig. The goblin alarmed at the loss of its weapon back away and tripped onto its ass.

The rat then jumped onto the goblin's face and used [Crunch]. At this point, the rat turned off [Focused Muscle Strengthening] and was just doing attacks buffed by its shadow based buffs. The goblin on the roof threw another knife, this time at the rat's eye. In response to this attack, the shadows surrounding the rat's body put more shadows in that area. The knife was caught in the shadows and then let go, falling to the floor. The goblin threw more knives, but the shadows kept catching them. While this was happening the rat was slowly making its way towards the goblin. The goblin in its fright tripped off the roof and snapped its neck when it hit the ground. The footless shield user and spear user had bleed out; this left only the rat and the hobgoblin. Both let out a battle roar before charging at each other.
