Plausible Explanation

"Today," Roy answered. "I will give you a call in a few hours."

'Huh?' Anna raised a questioning brow. "But you don't have my number."

"There is nothing I want to know that I can't find out." As soon as Roy replied to her, the line dropped.

Anna could only return the phone to Mr. Charles still with a mask of confusion on her face. "Thank you."

"Then," Mr. Charles bowed slightly. "I will take my leave," he finished before going to sit in the front passenger seat of the car.

The only reason he was being polite to Anna was because his boss seemed to value her if not, he wouldn't have asked him to take her home when she could take a cab straight from the airport.

Anna nodded respectfully and watched the car drive away while holding onto her travel luggage. When the black car was completely out of sight, she let out a deep breath.

She was getting married to a man she had only known for thirteen hours today. She was truly remarkable.

In the car, Roy returned the phone to Zane who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the jeep.

"I want the rest of that woman's information. What was her name again?" Roy inquired while raising a questioning brow.

Immediately, the chauffeur glanced at the rearview mirror. But unexpectedly meeting Roy's gaze, he quickly turned his attention back to the road in fear.

As for Zane, he had on a look that meant, 'seriously?' after that question was asked.

Letting out a soft sigh, he began to reveal a few other details about Anna.

"Sir, that woman's name is Anna Carter-Lee," he reminded while making sure to meet Roy's gaze. It was as if he was telling the latter to save her name in his head.

"Miss Lee's parents ended their marriage in a bitter divorce that led to her mother winning the child custody battle. And that's how she got her mother's surname, 'Carter' added to her name… Miss Lee has been an exceptional lawn tennis player for the national team… Two years ago… She lost her sight in the incident…"

Zane ended up having to repeat the former information he provided at the airport. But when he came towards the concluding part, his facial expression turned rigid.

"Sir, Miss Lee is dating someone named, Sam Holland."

Roy's gaze strayed to Zane. "She has a boyfriend?"

"Yes, Sir."

Roy was quiet for a while as he tried to process a few things. There wasn't a need to ask his bodyguard to verify this particular information because he trusted that he wasn't mistaken.

Zane had a track record with no atom of blemish to back his credibility so, doubts were unnecessary.

Finally, Roy exhaled. "I believe that there must be a reason for her to accept my proposal despite being in a relationship with someone."

When Zane tilted his head to the side as if to question his conclusion, he added, "After all, I have a girlfriend yet, I'm planning to get married to someone else."

"Sir, your situation is different," Zane said in a serious reminder. He didn't sound pleased with all the arrangements, but at the same time, he could not express it.

That Roy allowed him to drop comments once in a while which was unlike him, did not give him the right to overstep his boundaries.

Roy glanced at the window at his right side. "I believe Miss Lee's explanation will be plausible."

As Anna had to wait for the elevator, it took a while to make it to the fourth floor of the building where her apartment was located.

When she got to her door, she rang the doorbell with a smile of anticipation, reeling in the emotion of what her mother's reaction would be on seeing her.

Meanwhile, inside the apartment, Ms Carter quickly turned off the heat in the kitchen before rushing out of the kitchen on hearing the doorbell go off.

"I'm coming!" She shouted as quickly made her way towards the entrance door while wondering who it was on her door that early in the morning. But as soon as she checked the monitor, her eyes flew wide open.

Without wasting a second, she quickly unlocked the door and pulled it open before pouncing on Anna. "My daughter!" she cried out while enveloping her in a tight warm embrace.

It was a huge surprise to see the person she was preparing to go pick up from the airport, at her doorstep. It was truly mind-blowing.

"Mum," Anna called out while breaking into a huge grin. She could barely see a thing or even breathe properly with her mother clamping her like that. She did not know whether to cry or laugh.

"You are going to kill your only daughter at this rate," she struggled to pass the message as her heart bloomed with gladness.

Just as she had thought, surprising her mother was definitely pulling a reaction like this from her.

Anna's ragged breathing brought her mother's attention back to her action.

"I'm so sorry." Ms. Carter quickly took a step back as she checked her out. She hadn't even noticed how much force she had used earlier.

She hadn't been considerate as gratitude for her daughter's sight and her surprising presence swelled in her chest and got right into her head.

"Anna, you are really here with me? And you can really see?" Ms. Carter inquired with pure joy evident in her tone.

"Mum," Anna chuckled softly as she wrapped her arms around her mother, the corners of her lips stretching into a smile. "We have been speaking daily over video calls since the surgery was completed. Did you think I shammed you?"

Her mother shook her head and palmed her cheeks gently. "I wanted to see it for myself."

"Ha-ha-ha…" Anna chuckled before releasing her mother from the hug.

Gazing into her eyes, Ms. Carter noticed something. "T-they f-found the perfect pair for you." She looked astonished as if she had just discovered a treasure.

"Mmm." Anna nodded in confirmation. It was truly a blessing to find the perfect pair of eyes that matched her previous eye colour.

Although this new pair of eyes belonged to someone else, Anna did not feel like her identity had been compromised.

"Good." Her mother took her hand and led her inside the apartment while pulling her luggage with the other. "We need to contact your coach immediately. You are going back to the team."
