The Same Taste

"Is that so?" Maverick reached out and straightened his collar, entering the elevator.

He took a few glances at the child, who was almost up to his waist. Although the child's eyes were pure and clean, Maverick thought he should put on his guard. After all, people would resort to any method in order to achieve their goals.

However, the child in front of him was about the same age as his precious little princess, and even his eyes were the same as hers.

Maverick was disarmed by the eyes.

The child excited his attention for no reason. "You come out alone. Aren't you afraid to meet bad guys?"

Edmond blinked, "I met you, sir. You are a good person."

Maverick laughed, "How do you know I'm a good person?"

Edmond asked in reply, "Sir, how can I be as cool, handsome, and rich as you are?"

Maverick raised his eyebrows and asked, "Why do you want to be like me?"

"Because you look so powerful. I want to protect my mommy."

Maverick couldn't help smiling. "I didn't know that you are a reliable little man."

"Of course!"

His tone and eyes...

Maverick was dazed for a moment. The more he looked at the child, the more he felt him familiar. This child had exactly the same eyes as his daughter Candy.

"It's not safe for you to wander around alone in the hotel. I'll take you back to my room first, and I'll get the hotel staff to contact your mother to pick you up." As soon as he finished speaking, Maverick was startled by himself.

He had never cared about things not concerning him, and most of the time he was even cold and heartless.

Now, he actually blurted out such words.

Besides, he didn't like anyone to disturb his privacy. This was just a child that he had met twice.

However, he had said those words, and he could not go back on them.

Edmond's eyes immediately lit up, nodding. "Okay."

Maverick could not go back on his words when he saw the child's expectant face.

He brought the boy into his room.

Maverick had work to do, so he asked his assistant to get a glass of juice for Edmond and he went to the study and made phone calls.

Edmond sat quietly, but he couldn't help looking with curiosity at the furnishings of the room.

This hotel was owned by Lamont Group, most of which was taken over by Maverick.

He stayed here for the time being because he didn't want to see the Lamonts.

This room was his private residence, which he had frequented in the past few months, so he put quite a few private collections here.

After Maverick finished his work and came out of the small study, he saw the little fellow staring motionlessly at a rare wooden model he had collected. There was obvious longing in the child's eyes, but he did not reach out to get it. Instead, he just sat quietly and stared intently.

Maverick raised his eyebrows.

Although the child's parents did not seem to pay much attention to him, allowing him to wander around, it was not hard to tell that he was refined and self-possessed.

Maverick was in a good mood. He strode up and took the model. "Do you like it?"

Edmond held the juice in his hand and nodded earnestly, "Sir, I like it very much, but it seems hard to buy. Mommy bought me a few."

He pointed at the model with his chubby finger and said, "I know it's rare."

Maverick was taken aback. They had similar taste. KK models had been popular for a few years. They were made with first-class carving crafts and were expensive. Normally people bought them for collection. Such a young child could not possibly take them as toys, let alone admire them.

As a cautious man, he got suspicious. He ran across this child twice in a day, and they had the same taste. Was it a trick to approach him with a child?

But those eyes.

He felt that eyes would not lie.

In the end, the eyes identical to Candy's put suspicions out of his head.

Maverick sat on the sofa and leaned forward slightly. He handed the model to Edmond and said, "I couldn't tell that you know much about it. Why do you like these models?"

"Because other kids don't like them."

Edmond said, "When Mommy and I were abroad, other kids kept bullying me because I had no father. The toys I liked to play with would always be snatched away. Later on, I saw this and liked it very much. When I had the first model, other kids wouldn't come and take it because they didn't like it. But I did, and liked it even more, the more I looked at it."

Maverick was surprised. Such a sensible child didn't have a father?

He grew up abroad. No wonder he was precocious.

Maverick had a very strange feeling. The child said with a clear voice that he had no father, and kids kept bulling him and snatching his toys abroad. He knew it had nothing to do with him, but he could not help feeling a dull pain at his heart.

He frowned and stood up, saying, "I'll give you this rare model as a gift."

Edmond was exhilarated. "Really?"

"Yes."

"But I want your contact information." Edmond held the model and asked for more.

"Why?" Maverick looked at him with a faint smile.

"Of course I like to introduce my mother to you. Do you remember what I told you at the airport? You said that if fate brought us together again, you would give me your number."

Maverick was unruffled. "I did tell you that I don't have a girlfriend, but I have a fiancée."

Maverick felt he had gone so far as to bring the child to his room and give him toys, and he couldn't give him his contact number.

Although he felt intimate with the child, he was not sure what kind of parents he had.

"Come on. Your mother should be worried. I'll ask my assistant to send you back."

He took out his phone and called Jayden.

Edmond's face was filled with disappointment.

However, the handsome man was busy looking at the iPad. Edmond pouted his lips, but he shut up docilely as he was sensible.
