“Not well,” Rory replied. “He was moving too fast. I got the impression he was tall and muscular. He was wearing jeans and a plaid shirt, but then half the men in town dress like that.” Since he hadn’t really seen anyone, he had to keep the description vague. Not that it mattered. He knew the whole idea was to make whoever had been watching them at the cemetery think that he hadseen the killer and would recognize him if he saw him again.

“What about you, Molly?” the detective said. “Did you see anything that might help?”

“No, sir,” she replied. “I was too scared.”

“I’m not surprised,” he said, patting her arm. “All right. Thanks for coming back and coming in to talk to me, Rory. I’m not sure it will help, other than to confirm what we knew already, that the fire was started by someone who wanted you and your family dead. You don’t have any idea who that could be, or why?”

“No. I told you that,” Rory replied tightly. “Everyone who knew Mom and Dad liked them, as far as I knew.”
