Chapter 16
“She went to check on the fawns.”
“You let her go alone?”
“Come on. She already has a couple of times this morning. They’re only a little way into the trees behind the house. You know that. She took you to see them.”
“You’re right,” Deke admitted. “I was being over-protective because of what Conall and I’ve been taking about, which we need to tell you.”
Rory got up after turning off the TV and joined them in the office, taking a seat at one end of the sofa. Deke took the other since Conall was still in the desk chair.
“Okay, lay it on me,” Rory said.
Deke set out the basics of their plan and who they thought was behind the deaths of Rory’s parents.
“You’re sure it was this Ulric guy?” Rory asked when they finished.
“I’d lay money on it,” Conall replied. “It’s more logical than your folks’ fathers, one or the other, coming after them twenty years after the fact.”
