Mounted Cavalry

The 4th army had hoped to reach the plains within four days, sadly the General must have overestimated the marching speed of the militia, it took them five days to reach their destination.

The 4th army expected to see the 1st and 2nd armies holding two separate military encampments upon the hills around the plains. Instead, they saw a large battle happening beneath the hills out on the plains, more shocking was the fact that Wei had managed to beat the 1st and 2nd armies here!

Meng could see Wei flags planted on the strategic hills near the battle happening on the plains below. Wei had beat them here first! and now controlled the high ground allowing them to oversee the entire battlefield from their position on the hills.

Having rushed many troops here (150,000 soldiers) Wei was now able to engage the Qin forces with a superior force, they could attack Qin piece by piece as they arrived on the plains.

Meng could see that the 3rd, 5th, and 6th armies have yet to arrive here. The 1st (25,000 soldiers left) and 2nd army (10,000 soldiers left) we're currently attempting to take the hills away from Wei but they were outnumbered and were heavily engaged in battle. 35,000 Qin soldiers could be seen fighting about 60,000 Wei soldiers out on the plains.

The 4th army (30,000) organized themselves! and started marching to support their fellow Qin soldiers. From where they had arrived they were closer to the 2nd army and took up position on their left.

Each Qin army had around 30,000 when they marched to Wei, the 2nd army must have arrived first as they only had 10,000 men left!

The Wei forces had already set up defensive positions on their approach to the camps set up on the hills, a had stationed troops out on the plains to face them.

The 4th army sent in their first wave of militia infantry. Meng could only watch as Shin's squad ended up positioned to the front of the formation that was being led by Baku Koshin. Baku Koshin 1,000 men were position were in the center of the marching Qin soldiers, on their left and right 9,000 other soldiers had taken up positions and marched with them, 10,000 Qin soldiers marched to face the Wei soldiers.

Meng was positioned further back near the right flank of the 4th army reserves, right next to Heki's Cavalry. His three hundred mounted cavalry archers have yet to be assigned to any part of the army, he expected to be put in one of the thousand-man commanders' units. He has yet to receive any orders and had to position his men in this location under his own initiative.

He had three 100 man commanders under his command, and they had ordered the squad leaders under them, to organize the men into three neat groups behind Heki's cavalry.

In his head, he liked to call his 100 man commanders mob#1, mob#2, and mob#3. He had to admit that they each were stronger than him, if he had a level, he would be mob Lv 1 while they would over mob Lv 5. Either way, we were still destined to just end up as easy XP for the OP protagonist-like fighters.

It seems that when he told Zheng that he wanted to lead his own three hundred men cavalry unit, Zheng must have thought he wanted to be independent of the rest of the army and able to act on his own. Or, perhaps he was just testing him.

Meng observed as the Qin forces marched to attack the Wei forces, then came to the sudden realization! Wei had sent too few men! they didn't have enough to face the incoming Qin forces.

He watched as the Wei forces bravely held their position as the Qin forces advanced towards them, despite being heavily outnumbered none of the Wei soldiers ran.

Once the Qin forces were close enough, the Wei army formed their lines of infantry into a rock formation. Unline the Qin militia forces of the 4th army, Wei forces were clearly of a higher quality and were likely career soldiers. Their formation was a wall of shields and spears that would make any army foolish enough to charge into it! to pay a terrible price!

The Qin forces suffered heavy casualties charging into the Wei formation. The Qin charge had been stopped cold all along the line! all except for one spot in the center of the formation!

Meng knew that Shin was likely located there, from this one small opening in the formation, the Wei soldiers were being slowly overrun as Qin soldiers kept pouring in, from this one location the Qin soldiers were able to slowly break apart the Wei formation. Eventually,

Meng watched as eventually, the Qin with the superior numbers won the battle out on the plains.

As the Qin soldiers cheered! a cloud of dust could be seen moving towards them!

Meng knew that it was likely the Wei chariots! looking around he noticed that none of the cavalries were moving to assist the soldier out on the plains!

The 4th army out on the front would face the brunt of the chariot attack at this rate, once the first wave of chariots broke through the army out there they would then hit them next! once they were done here they would go on to hit the 2nd and 1st armies from the flanks.

He saw that messengers had left to request orders from the Duke but how long would that take!

How many Qin soldiers would die if no one stopped the chariots here? now he understood why so few Wei soldiers formed up to meet the Qin soldiers of the 4th army!

They had sent out a token force to lure in a large number of men using a few Wei soldiers as sacrifices! then they would unleash the chariots to inflict heavy casualties on the 4th army!

Meng then remembered that out of the 30,000 soldiers of the 4th army, that less than 6,000 had returned alive from this battle in the story! with most of the survivors being cavalry.

With no other choice, Meng had his men drink their special drinks! then ordered his cavalry forward! looking around he noticed that none of the Qin soldiers attempted to stop him.

Shin had just led the Qin soldiers to victory over the Wei formation! having led the charge many of the soldiers near him were celebrating with him, suddenly they all could feel the ground shake, and off in the distance they could see a cloud of dust heading towards them! the Qin soldiers were starting to panic until a large number of mounted archers rode past them!

Meng had just moved past the Qin soldiers out on the plains, briefly locking eyes with Shin, he tried to look cool and heroic as they rode past the Qin infantry. The idea of looking heroic only lasted a moment! as his men road out onto the battlefield their horses couldn't help stepping on the bodies of dead and injured soldiers from both sides!

Looking around he could see many Qin soldiers clutching the dead bodies of their comrades, likely a family member or close friend, some of the wounded Qin soldiers could be seen attempting to crawl away from the battlefield while dragging their intestines behind them on the ground! Meng was riding through a field of death and suffering! the scent of blood was so thick in the air Meng thought that he could taste it in the air as he rode.

He ordered his three hundred mounted archers to split into three groups! he and mob 1 with 100 men would position themselves in the center of the incoming chariots, mob 2 would take the left, and mob 3 would take his men and head to the right.

The Qin soldiers could only watch as three hundred men bravely charged the Wei chariots! they thought they were just trying to bide time for the fourth army to escape but with so few men, they all doubted that they could accomplish much.

They watched as the Qin cavalry was about to crash into the chariots! when suddenly! all over the battlefield, the Mengs cavalry all took u-turns!

Having turned around, the mounted cavalry archers were now running slightly ahead of the incoming chariots! the riders then quickly twisted their waists so that they could face the chariots behind them.

With bows in their hands, they quickly started shooting the horses that were pulling the chariots! angered! the Wei chariots chased after the Qin! but they were unable to catch them!

Riding his horse Meng fired shot after shot into the chariots behind him! his men spread out around him did the same, as he fired he didn't aim for the men inside the chariots, no, he targeted the horses pulling them! they were bigger targets, without the horses the chariots would become useless and the infantry would make quick work of them! their poison arrows would also greatly weaken the horses as well.

Still, many of the chariots managed to reach the Qin's lines and caused casualties. His three hundred men tried their best but they couldn't stop all the chariots, they had still managed to take out about half of the chariots while wounding many of the horses, but this was just the first wave.

More of the Qin soldiers had survived than compared to the manga. Meng wouldn't allow the first wave of the chariots to flee without a fight.

The chariots' first wave, likely planned to break through here and then head towards the 2nd and 1st armies battlefields! Then the second wave of chariots would finish off the survivors, then deal with the 4th armies reserve troops. He had to keep chasing the first wave of chariots or they would interfere with the other battlefields.

He could see that the Qin soldiers were quickly piling up bodies to use as ramparts to stop the second wave of chariots, hopefully, they could survive long enough for him to come back to help.

The second wave of chariots was expecting to run into many scattered groups of Qin soldiers! instead, they found the battlefield to be littered with small ramparts created from the dead! (Kyou Kai doing). There were a lot more Qin survivors as well.

Shin leading the survivors, managed to hold out against charge of the second wave of chariots, thanks to Kyou Kai quick thinking they had constructed ramparts from the dead bodies and weapons.

Any chariots that were foolish enough to charge them quickly flipped and were finished off soon after, the blades on the sides of the chariot wheel harmlessly bounced off the dead bodies and shield on the sides of the ramparts!

A few lucky shots from thrown spears and arrows managed to kill a few of the Qin soldiers but like the first wave, most of the Qin soldiers survived the second wave as well. The Wei chariots then had to deal with an OP Shin riding a horse, who quickly took out a few of their chariots by himself!

The second wave had managed to turn around after their charge and had regrouped, they were just about to charge once again through the Qins army when they suddenly noticed a group of Qin cavalry charging towards them!

Being brave warriors of Wei! they accepted the challenge and quickly moved to face the Qin soldiers' charge! both sides were about to clash! when the Qin soldiers did a quick u-turn and started fleeing from them!

Having finished off the first wave of Wei chariots, Meng turned his men around and returned to the 4th armies battlefield, his men had barely managed to stop the chariots from interfering with the 2nd armies battle, having just returned he was happy to see that most of the Qin soldiers had survived and the battlefield now had many small ramparts built with Qin soldiers safely inside.

Quickly the three hundred mounted archers moved to kite the chariots, and just as they had done with the first wave, they managed to get a large number of Wei chariots to chase after them, it wasn't long before Meng had defeated the second wave as well! with the chariots defeated, he regrouped his men near Heki cavalry and had his men swap out their quivers with the fresh ones tired to their horses.

Of his three hundred mounted archers, only around twenty had died! and fifty were injured. Each chariot had at least one archer and also had spears that they could throw, if they had faced heavy cavalry Meng was sure that he would have lost none of his men! assuming that none of the heavy cavalries had ranged weapons, of course, if they didn't they could only helplessly watch as Mengs men fired at them from out of their attack range.

AN: Mengs 300 men have (three) 100 man commanders, each then has (ten) 10 man squad leaders (total of 11 men in every 10 man squad), who each command the two squad leaders who have four-foot soldiers under them. So Meng had 300 soldiers not counting the 10 man squad leaders and 100 man commanders. Hopefully, that made some sense lol.

The 4th army had managed to defeat Wei soldiers on plains and now the chariots, of the 30,000 men of the 4th army, around 20,000 are left. ( Manga only around 5,000 were left).

The 2nd army who started the battle first with 30,000 men, now only have 6,000 men left. (3,000 in the manga)

The 1st army have 20,000 of their 30,000 men left, having started the battle later than the 2nd army. (15,000 in the manga).

The 4th, 1st, and 2nd armies had a total of 95,000 men, they now have 46,000 struggling to survive.

Wei started the battle with 150,000 soldiers, they now currently have 130,000 left. Wei had lost 20,000 so far but killed 44,000!

Meng observing the battlefield kept wondering where the 3rd, 5th, and 6th armies were! The Dukes' decision to rush to the plains was now backfiring on them, the three Qin armies here were desperately trying to survive!

Wei having been humiliated by the 4th army now attempted to win back some of their honor and started to move up thousands of their reserves to put more pressure all across the battlefield!

The Duke ordered all the cavalry of the 4th army to charge and meet the advance of the Wei soldiers! Meng having no choice had to reluctantly join the charge but had his men hang back behind Heki's troops, holding their fire they waited until a moment before Heki's cavalry charged into the Wei infantry! surprised the Wei troops were left vulnerable thanks to the sudden arrow fire and Heki's cavalry charged deep into their lines!

The 4th army infantry reserves having just watched their first wave sent in push back the Wei soldier and then survive the chariots! were left greatly inspired and charge valiantly after the cavalry! the full might of the 4th army was on display and they surged through the Wei troops! 20,000 Qin troops face off against 35,000 Wei troops.

Under Baku Koshin's leadership, a large number of Qin cavalry spearhead the attack and cut deep into the enemy lines, splitting the 35,000 Wei troops into two!

The Duke not missing such opportunity orders the cavalry of the 1st and 2nd armies to head over to the 4th battlefield to destroy the Wei troops in disarray there.

Thanks to the help of the cavalry the Qin forces now number 25,000 on the 4th army battlefield, the 35,000 Wei troops on the plains are quickly being destroyed! they now have less than 25,000 soldiers left! with that number quickly dropping.

Baku Koshin knows that the Wei General Kyuugen is located on the hill near them, he can't allow Kyuugen to influence the slaughter happening on the plain and leads an attack on his headquarters!

Shin and Meng notice Baku Koshin's charge towards the hill and lead men to follow him. Meng just as he had done with Haki's charge waited to fire until Baku Koshin cavalry was just about to charge through the troops stationed at the bottom of the hill, taken by surprise by the sudden volley of arrows the Wei troops were unable to stop the fierce charge of Baku cavalry!

Mengs ordered his troops to stop, they had less than 200 men left and with light armor, he wasn't eager to fight his way up the hill, he just watched as Shin and Kyou Kai led around three hundred militia up the hill after Baku.

Baku Koshin had just charged into the 2,000 men located halfway up the hill, thanks to the arrival of Shins and Kyou Kai troops he was able to lead about two hundred cavalries up the hill while the rest fought here, Shin not wanting to be left behind rushed after him with about 50 militia. Kyou Kai seeing it would be a tough fight here decided to stay behind and lead the rest of the militia in helping the cavalry fight here.

Kyuugen orders Kou Rigen to battle, Kou with about 100 repeating crossbows fires volley after volley into the charging Qin troops. Sadly just like the manga Baku Koshin is taken by surprise and his shot several times, Shin manages to catch up just in time to block shots for Baku and takes the lead in charging up the hill.

After a fierce fight, the troops clash at the top of the hill, eventually, Shin defeats Kou Rigen and Baku Koshin dies together with general Kyuugen.

Great General Gokei seeing that Qin has managed to take over the hill controlled by Kyuugen orders his 40,000 troops to retake it!

Unknown to Shin, as he made his epic charge up the hill, Ou Ki had arrived at the battlefield with his own personal army and had decided that he wanted to go for a ride, his army casually rode through the Wei army on the 4th battlefield, in order to protect their General on his Ride, Ou Ki 6,000 men had no choice but to kill 15,000 Wei soldiers in his way!

Ou Ki then decided that he wanted to see the view from the top of the hill near Kyuugen. Cutting a path through Wei soldiers his men casually reached the top of the hill. All over the battlefield, the Qin flags of Ou ki men could be seen from all over the battlefield!

The soldiers of the 4th, 1st, and 2nd armies felt motivated after finally taking over one of the hills! all over the battlefield, Qin soldiers fought like wild beasts! despite being outnumbered they slowly started pushing back the Wei forces!

Gokei feeling threatened by Ou Ki positioned on the hill above him, ordered his men to deploy into the nine-fold spear wall formation!

Meng was stunned watching Ou ki troops just casually march through the Wei soldiers, then out of the corner of his eye he noticed that General Duke Hyou has taken the opportunity to sneak his 5,000 cavalries near Gokei while he's focused on Ou Ki on the hill, the Duke spots him and signals Meng to follow him!

Meng seeing this could only helplessly scream in his mind! he couldn't disobey the Dukes' direct order and could only helplessly lead his men after the Duke! knowing what the Duke planned on doing he ordered his men to take out their last quivers and prepare for a tough fight. If things really got bad, he at least still had his final trump card!

Due to Ou Ki's distraction, Duke Hyou was able to lead his men in a surprise attack on the Gokei command center! Meng just as he did with Heki's and Baku Koshin charges! waited until the forces were about to class before firing a volley of arrows to surprise the Wei troops!

Duke Hyou cavalry devastated the Wei soldiers as they charged into! charging deep into Gokei formation from the side!

Heki and Shin were inspired by the Duke charge! lead their own men down the hill and charge into Gokei other flanks! Ou Ki knew that his men were a good distraction to the forces around the battlefield and would cause them to keep part of their forces in reserve across the battlefield just in case he decided to move! Gokei was no different he had to keep a large part of his force facing Ou ki on the hill! and could only helplessly watch as Duke Hyou lead a charge towards him!

Meng following the Dukes couldn't stop sweating! their force was heavily outnumbered compared to Gokei men! Gokei seemed to realize that Duke Hyou was too strong and that it would be far easier to stop his charge if they focused on his men instead! Meng men had been cut down to less than 75! everyone was covered in wounds including Meng, reaching for an arrow he realized that he only had one left!

The Duke and the troops under Heki and Shin had managed to reach Gokei in the center of his troops! Shin clashes quickly with Maki and soon defeats him, while Duke Hyuo instant kills Shuki! both strong commanders under Gokei.

The Qin soldiers then attack the troops around Gokei and Duke duel! they need to keep as many Wei soldiers away from their fight as possible! Meng notices an unknown Wei 1,000 man commander giving orders to the troops in the area!

This was it! this was his moment to shine! taking his last arrow out he took aim and fired at the commander! he watched his arrow fly through the air! and... MISS THE COMMANDER!!! it had flown past the commander's neck! only leaving a tiny scratch on it!

Seeing that his attack had missed! Meng quickly hid behind mob#1! not a second later the unknown commander looked in his direction and thought that mob#1 had been the one to fire the arrow!

Angered! the unknown commander charged into the last of Mengs men! he quickly cut a bloody path through the last 50 men under Meng! without anyone being able to stop him! he soon arrived next to Meng and mob#1! startled! Meng quickly moved away while poor mob#1 was cut in half! angered by the death of mob#1 and that Meng was in danger!

The last 25 men under Meng, then fought a desperate battle against the unknown commander! Meng could see that the enemy 1,000 commander was being affected by the poison from his arrow and decided to risk it! rushing forward he joined his men in battle! eventually, their battle ended with Meng's sword sticking into the back of the enemy commander while four of his men also had their blades buried deep into the commander as well!

Looking around Meng, noticed that his troops along with a small part of Duke Hyou's cavalry had been cut off from the rest of the troops thanks to the unknown commander! about 100 of Duke Hyou's troops were desperately fighting around them! his last 25 of his men soon came to the realization that in a few moments they would all be overrun and die here!

The time has come for Meng to unleash his ultimate trump card! looking around he secretly signaled his men! they all nodded to each other! and in the next second a fountain of blood came squirting out of their mouths! their bodies then all fell onto the ground as they all died dramatically! giving the best performances of their lives!

A minute later the soldiers around them could no longer hold on! and their little cut-off group was all soon killed! Meng could only lay on the ground and play dead as Wei soldier marched over his body to join the rest of the battle.

Thanks to the special drink they had drunk earlier, they were all able to puke up a bloody red substance from their stomachs, and now they all looked like bloody corpses on the ground! up close you could tell the blood wasn't the right consistency, but from far away it looked real enough.

By now there were likely close to 50,000 Wei soldiers surrounding Duke Hyou's troops! Less than four thousand Qin soldiers bravely held back the Wei men from interrupting the Duke's duel!

Eventually, the Duke was able to win and cut off the head of Gokei! Wei had now lost two of their three Generals! General Haku Kisai attempted to rally the soldiers but unknown to everyone, Ou Ki had taken the opportunity while everyone was busy concerned with the Duke and Gokei duel! to sneak his men down of the hill and assault the hill being guarded by Haku Kidai!

Haku Kidai was suddenly challenged to a duel by the Monstrous Bird of Qin! (Ou Ki), afraid of losing his life he decided to flee the battle! one of his men must have misunderstood after watching their general flee and quickly started the war drums signaling the retreat of the army! it wasn't long before the war drums from the Wei army could be heard signaling the retreat all over the battlefield.

Qin soldiers spread out all over the battlefield could be heard cheering for their victory!
