1 Rise and Shine

Wake up. Astro. We have to hurry.

Having his wonderful sleep interrupted the boy named Astro woke up thrashing from side to side on a queen sized bed. Opening his eyes he saw what he always saw the dull green wallpaper that was starting to peel off from the corners of the wall and the rusty curtains that had long lost their originally color. He turned to see who the culprit that had ruined his wonderful sleep was.

Oh! Aunty? What is it? Confused and slightly annoyed Astro asked. The lady who came to wake the boy up was wearing a purple silk dress that hugged the curves of her body, but not seductive curves of a woman but ones born from laziness and excess eating making it look as though her body was moments away from ripping through the dress.

Boy! Get ready. The elder has called us early due to reasons unspecified.

Ah.. Yes. Completely unperturbed by the disdain and condescending tone of his aunt. Astro pulled his legs from under the dirty yellow comforter, who knew if that was the original color or not, and slipped into furry black slippers. Getting up completely he straightened his short pajamas of which the sleeves had pulled back to his forearms and pants that came only half way to his shins. Clearly these pajamas were too small for him.

Seeing that the boy had gotten up the lady, Tilda, throw a ring onto the bed and turned to leave making all her fat jiggle threatening to break the confines of her dress. Just at the doorway she looked over her shoulder and said to Astro, Make sure you wear exactly what is in the ring nothing else.

Astro replied with a meekly, Yes, as he collected the sliver ring. This was probably the closest thing he had felt that could be considered affection. After his parents had left the island for a task unbeknownst to him, he was left in the 'care' of his aunt and uncle. That was 5 years ago, now on the eve of his 14th birthday he couldn't help but imagine how things would have been had he left with his parents then. Alas, there is no remedy for regrets, and how can a 14 year old have regrets. With that he entered the bathroom to freshen up, completely oblivious to the full moon shining through a square foot window.

Darling, how is it? Is he ready yet? Asked a man with saggy and wrinkly skin making him look at least 30 years older than he actually was.

Tilda who was coming down the stairs saw the impatience of the man and a flash of disappointment came across her pale blue eyes. Tucking her burgundy hair over her ear and placing a hand on the railing she said, NO. He wasn't even awake. It will take 10 more minutes.

Ungrateful Brat! Yelled the man. Causing the coiled three foot long black serpent on the his arms to be startled and almost fall down. The serpent looking aggrieved turned his head to the man and seeing how he had no reaction the serpent slowly slide down and went towards the lady hoping for consolation. However, just as he was closing onto her feet a scorpion with two stingers and size of a water basin blocked its path, not letting it continue any further.

15 minutes later Astro came down after having changed into the outfit provided by his aunt. The outfit was much more extravagant than he thought it would have been since from the time he moved in he only got things that were moments away from breaking or just plan old trash that his aunt and uncle were to lazy to throw out. This outfit was teal blue and beaded with sapphire gemstone across the clavicle. The pants were not as bejeweled but it was better, much better than what he usually got to wear.

Seeing that Astro was finally here the man, his uncle Richie, jumped up from the couch probably the most physical active thing he had done in the past 25 years of his life. And ran over to the boy grabbing his slim olive brown wrist and pulled him out the door. Waiting for them a was huge bird bigger than the size of his room and with a wing span of what could 20 meters. The bird was the regular travel Fae that most middle class families would use, as it was fairly cheap and its flying speed wasn't too bad. The only plus point of the bird was its back had a thick layer of high grade fur that would make any couch potato giddy with joy.

Seeing the creature in front of him Astro could help but try to analyze it. The thing was just before leaving, Astro's parents and done two things. One was give Astro a necklace with a golden stellar dendrites which he never took off. The second was placing a celestial sigil on his back which in turn gave him an ability that let him analyze Fae. Of course, he never told anyone about this, as for why he himself had yet to figure that out.

Oh, this is the first time I got information other than the name of the Fae. Could it be because I am officially 14 now?

While Astro was in his own world his aunt and uncle had already boarded the bird and had dragged Astro with them, of course it was not them particularly but their Fae. Which to this day Astro could not read not even their names.

After confirming that everyone was on board the carrier pushed off the ground and into the clear night sky.
