Dying Under A Bridge

Under a 50 meter bridge, you can see a young man with black hair and blue eyes wearing clothings that seems to be covered in blood. He is quite handsome, his perfectly shaped face along with his blue eyes is a really striking look for teen girls to squeal on.

This is Zed Black, who is currently dying under the bridge.

How long has it been? 2...no 3 days. I have been staying here under the bridge without any food nor water to survive with.

Though, it was better for them not to use resources on me. Three days ago, I just learned that I had the COVID19. I haven't told my parents and my siblings yet.

The cost for the hospital fees on treating the COVID19 was very, very expensive. We were by no means poor but the cost was simply too hefty for them to handle it. So, i ran away from my home and left my family and now, they would be safe. Away from me, away from the disease.

I had a good run too. Almost 16 years of my life was spent on being lazy and school but that changed when my parents started doing catering services. After that, my life started going on the right direction. My grades in school were good but my cooking skills was very good.

My mother, who handles the cooking along with the other helpers, taught me how to cook. My parents wanted me to inherit the family business and succeed them, and i obliged.

My parent was nearing their fifty's and my other siblings had already gone off to start their own family. So there i was, left with my parents, with my siblings going on with their lives.

Sometimes, when i get bored of school and learning how to cook, i play games and read novels or manga. My favorite game was dark souls. Oh, how the game captured my heart. Its sole purpose was to punish the greedy ones and reward the hard working ones. Also to make the player rage for many days.

I chuckled softly when I remembered crushing the controller because of that blasted game.

I suddenly coughed and i covered my mouth with my right hand.

Cough...Cough...

I brought my hand down on my lap and saw blood splattered all over it. That's normal i guess. I rubbed it off on my blood stained, former, white t-shirt. My shirt was stained with blood because I have been coughing blood since day 2. I Guess living under a dirty bridge for hiding myself was not a very good idea. But I am was already dying, so who cares right?... Maybe my parents but they will get over it soon.

I was really lucky that no one had ever look down on this bridge or else, I would've been found out and my parents would burden the problem of paying for my hospital fees.

I don't want to be a burden for them.

Huh? That's strange? My vision Is already fading away... Am I...going to die?

I suddenly remembered everything that happened to me, from childhood to being a teenager. Ah, such a fine but short life I have lived, it is such a pity that I won't be able to see the rest of it.

The light on his blue eyes quickly faded away, his mouth curled up into a smile, signifying that he was peaceful on his passing.

(In The Nothingness)

Where...am I? I know I died but why am I in this dark place?

The place he was felt like there was no gravity holding things down here and it was completely black. Pitch black.

I look around and saw nothing but the endless sea of darkness in all of my direction. Is this the after life? Hmm, dying was no good after all.

He suddenly heard an old voice ringing inside of his head.

"Look in front of thee."

He was confused as to who this mysterious voice belong to but nonetheless, he obeyed.

In front of him, there was a scene playing like a movie except, there was no TV in front of him.

The scene showed a fog screen and then the same voice sounded again!

"In the Age Of Ancients the world was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of gray crags, Archtrees and Everlasting Dragons. But then there was Fire and with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Souls Of Lords within the flame. Nito, The First Of The Dead, The Witch Of Izalith and her Daughters of Chaos, Gwyn, The Lord Of Sunlight, and his faithful knights. And the Furtive Pygmy, so easily forgotten."

I then realized, this was the prologue for the first Dark Souls game.

"What is happening? Am I getting reincarnated to Dark Souls? Please god no!! I love the game but going inside it is a fate worse than death!" I yelled as I panicked. I kneeled down and prayed.

I'm not going inside it! Please be merciful, Oh whoever god listening to this humble mortal right now, please be merciful to this lowly mortal...praying doesn't work!

As I panicked, the prologue continued to go on.

This time, it showed Gwyn and his knights throwing their lightning spears towards the eternal dargons.

"With the strength of Lords, they challenged the Dragons. Gwyn's mighty bolts peeled apart their stone scales. The Witches weaved great firestorms. Nito unleashed a miasma of death and disease. And Seath The Scaleless betrayed his own, and the Dragons were no more."

The scene changed and the screen turned white before showing the a city surrounded by walls so tall.

"Thus began the Age Of Fire. But soon the flames will fade and only Dark will remain. Even now there are only embers, and man sees not light, but only endless nights. And amongst the living are seen, carriers of the accursed Darksign."

Zed was not paying any attention towards the narrator and continued to panicked. It seems like, being transported in Dark Souls is a very traumatic thing for him.

The voice then spoke towards him.

"Yes, indeed. The Darksign brands the Undead. And in this land, the Undead are corralled and led to the north, where they are locked away, to await the end of the world... This is your fate."

"Only, in the ancient legends it is stated, that one day an undead shall be chosen to leave the undead asylum, in pilgrimage, to the land of ancient lords, Lordran."

"And now, the Ancient God of the multiverse bestows you, the Gamer Abilty."

When Zed heard that last part, his heart skipped a beat. Right now, he is still kneeling down, praying. He calmed down first and raised his head and looks towards the screen before saying, "Gamer? As in The Gamer ability!?" He looked quite excited when he spoke.

The voice then replied.

"Yes, I am the servant of the Ancient God and Milord was quite bored watching the same old mortal shows. So he wanted me to take a soul who will entertain him and you happen to be the soul needed just for that."

Zed furrowed his eyebrows and asked, "But why me? I'm just an ordinary guy."

The disembodied voice seems to chuckle before replying.

"Oh young mortal, you have much to learn."

"Uh what?" I am really confused right now. What is this weird disembodied voice saying now?

"Now I will leave you to your own accord but before that, I will give you the Gamer Ability first. Once thee have chosen a gift, you shall embark to your journey on Lordran. You shall received the ability shortly, goodbye mortal. A fine dark soul to you, hahahaha."

"Wait! Can you please tell me the name of the Ancient God?" Zed asked.

"..."

A silence occurred and Zed knew, the disembodied voice was already gone.

"At least tell me the name who will send me towards that hellhole" Zed grumbled under his breath.

Hmm, but I wonder, when is the Gamer Ability arriving.

Suddenly, a transparent blue screen appeared in front of him.

Zed stared at it blankly and said, "That was fast."

There is something written on the screen and it said.

Greetings gamer, from now on, you shall live your life like a game. You will gain exp, magical items and many more after you kill monsters or humans in any worlds or do missions given to you by the game.

If you tap Yes, the game will give you a mission to complete the tutorial and the game will make sure the reward is satisfying. But if you tap No, let's just say surviving in Lordran is gonna be difficult, if you know what I mean.

"Bastard!" Zed cursed. The game is obviously playing games with him.

If he pick the Yes button, he will be able to finish it and get a reward but if he pick No, his fate will be unclear.

You may call him crazy for this, but he had a bad feeling about the Yes button. It seems like if he Tap that, he will be tortured for many days. So with little hesitations, he tap No.
