Waking Up in a Different Body

BAM!

Ollis had been kicked in the stomach another time, bracing for more.

'I shouldn't have messed with those guys' Ollis had thought. He tried to start a fight with one smaller guy behind a gas station and out of no where, two more appeared.

"Dude, that's enough. You're gonna kill him. Stop!" One of the guys had said. Ollis couldn't make out which one had enough mercy to let him go because both of his eyes were swollen from the pounding he had received.

Ollis heard someone putting up a fight and another person struggling.

SMACK!

A body had hit the floor. "Dude, why'd you knock him out?"

"This little rat didn't learn his lesson yet." The one that had beaten Ollis up had said. Ollis heard feet walking over broken glass coming towards him. And…

BAM!

One last hit and darkness. Ollis had been knocked out from a devastating hit to the head.

COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO

Ollis had woken up on the cold, hard cobblestone floor. He could see the bright sun rising over the big palace in the distance. Immediately he thought 'This is not where I was last. Did somebody fly me to France or something?'

Everything was different. He didn't have swollen eyes nor did his body ache. On the plus side, he could see without his glasses.

"My glasses! They must've broke during the fight, but I can see just fine. It's weird enough that I'm not where I was, but now I can see without glasses. Hmm, what's going on?"

As soon as Ollis had said that, a voice rang in his head. *DING! Boot up sequence activated. Memories receiving. Slight head pain is expected*

"Who said tha-AAaAaaaAAHH!" Ollis started to feel the worst headache he's had in his life and was forced to get on his knee. He hadn't known where the voice was coming from so he looked around. "Slight pain? Yeah right! And didn't you say 'Memories receiving?' Why haven't I received any memories?"

A child walked by the alley and asked her mom, "Mommy, why is that man yelling?"

Her mom said, "Honey, don't look at that ugly human. He's just a drunk," covering her daughter's eyes and pulling her away.

'Human? They say it like they're aliens or something.' Ollis had thought. In fact, they weren't human. They were anthropomorphic animals.

Ollis looked up, surprised at what the person had just said. He instantly regretted it. He saw two hairy, catlike people walk around the corner and out of sight. Fear started to set in as Ollis suspected he might not be in the same world he was just in.

Ollis started to panic, looking around for anything that can cast a reflection. He looked at the ground and saw…

'A puddle! I think this is the most excited I've been to see some water on the ground' when Ollis looked in the puddle, he saw the same face he sees every time he looks into a mirror.

'Why did those things say that I'm ugly? That was really hypocritical of them. And again, who was that voice from earlier?'

*Boot up complete. I am your system currently located in your head. If you have any questions, please ask away.*

'You can hear me in my head, right? What happened and where am I?'

*Yes, I can hear you. I assume you mean why are you here. The answer is you've died in the last world and came here. You are currently located in the nation Oakvale's capital, Lux Sancta.*

'You've mentioned earlier that I should gain memories. Where are they?'

*Simple. The person previously occupying this body didn't have any memories*

'I guess that would make sense, considering he probably drank them all away. Why do I look the same if I'm in his body and what should I do first?'

*You both look the same. It's really common for two people to look the same across multiple universes. As to your second question, I recommend that you set some goals in order to gain points. Points can be used buy neat skills and abilities to help you reach your goal that you set*

'With Agile I could move faster, might be useful. It wont hurt to have a little bit of luck on my side. I already have the basic skill, Brawling. The last two points could go into Second Wind. What else should I do?'

*Always happy to be of service. I recommend that you find a quest to do. Quests will give you points upon completion. You can find a quest by going to a crowded area to eavesdrop on conversations or join a guild and check their quest board.*

'I'm probably not strong enough to join a guild, so I guess I'm gonna have to eavesdrop.' Ollis left his alley and tried to find a crowd.

***

Arriving at a small tavern, Ollis thought 'Maybe I could make use of this body and pretend to be a drunk.' Hoping to find good information, Ollis sat outside trying to listen in on anyone's conversation.

***

Ollis, getting tired of waiting for countless minutes, decided to get up and go. 'I probably look really weird sitting outside of this tavern for hours. Maybe I should go.' When Ollis thought this, he could barely make out a conversation.

"Beastman... more of a... than a man... bounty... terrorizing... nearby forest..."

'This is exactly what I need. All I need to do is suit up and find this forest!'

*Quest accepted (1): Mysterious Beastman*
