20 Chapter 20

When Eva reaches the Mansion, she goes inside by the hole Tony made with his flight test. JARVIS doesn't greet her, which is suspicious as well as worrisome. However, she doesn't have time to wonder. She hears a thud coming from the lab and she goes there to find Tony crawling down the stairs, his face pale.

She flies towards him and throws a Healing Pulse at him. It's enough to give him some breathing room.

He points to the lab with a trembling finger.

"Reactor," he croaks.

Her gaze moves from the hole in his chest to the inside of her lab where the present Pepper left rest. She doesn't berate herself for forgetting that. Instead, she flies towards it and pulls it inside Tony.

He gulps air as soon as the reactor connects.

"Thank you," he says with his head thrown back against the wall. He takes another breather in which she helps him go up with telekinesis.

"Tony?" a voice calls out.

They look upstairs at the voice that's getting nearer. She's currently under Tony's chin as he rest his whole body against her own little one.

"It's Rhodey," Tony whispers.

'Do you think it's time to meet?'

Tony looks down at her before shaking her head. "Not now, at least."

She nods and proceeds to help him lean against the wall, before transforming into Linoone.

"Tony?" Rhodey's voice continues to sound. Though this time Tony answers with 'here!'.

Frantic steps are quick to come near. Not a second later, Rhodey sees him. "Tony!"

"Where's Pepper?" is the first thing he asks. Though it seems to be directed at Rhodey, it's clear to Eva, it's a question for her.

'She was safe with Coulson,' she says at the same time Rhodey says, "She's fine. She's with five agents. They're about to arrest Obadiah."

Tony shakes his head. "That will not be enough."

He then waves him into the lab, where the Mark II is resting. He first goes to the computer, though. She's not sure what he's doing until he hears JARVIS voice coming through the speakers. "My apologies, sir. I was silenced."

"Don't worry JARVIS. I was the one who forgot to take Obadiah's access from your systems." There's self-blame in his words, but his expression remains calm. "Now, bring the Mark II."

"Of course, sir."

Soon, the Mark II appears in front of them.

"That's the coolest thing I've ever seen," Rhodey is quick to point out.

"Not bad at all, huh?" Tony says with a smirk, a hint of his previous self in it. "Let's do it, then."

She yips when he goes to put it on the armor. He stops and kneels towards her. "Do you trust me?"

What a stupid question, she thinks as she nods like a chicken pecking rice.

"Then trust I will be safe."

'I trust you Tony,' she repeats this time in his mind. 'I don't trust Obadiah, though. Are you sure you don't want me to help?'

"This is personal, sorry. Besides, you haven't practiced battle before and you don't have a nifty armor like me to protect you. Next time, okay?"

'I'll still be on the lookout.'

He smiles. "Thank you."

Getting up, he turns around and meets Rhodey's judgmental raised eyebrow. "Done talking with your pet?"

She growls.

"I'll be careful, Rhodey. She doesn't like to be called a pet."

"Right." He rolls his eyes, though he soon turns attentive when he sees Tony putting on the armor. "You need me to do anything else?"

"Keep the skies clear," is the last thing Tony says before he goes flying away. Eva uses the moment Rhodey is distracted to make her escape. After all, she promised to be on the lookout. Though as she's now in her Mew form and flying towards the expo, she realizes Tony's right. She has practiced her moves but not fighting.

Wait.

... Fighting?

Maybe a fighting type would do her good. She still doesn't like pain, but she knows of a form who is Psychic/Fighting type.

When she already sees signs of battle, she chooses to transform into Gallade. And woah, let's just say that while it hurts the same as other Psychic types, which is more like thousands of pinches on her most vulnerable parts instead of boiling oil on skin. The number of moves is so great she now has a slight headache. This is the Pokemon with the most moves she has transformed into.

The positive is that she now knows Teleport.

She tries to fist bump but her head is aching, so she just kind of flops for a second there. Just a second, though. The next, she's running to where she can see Pepper and Coulson. However, instead of approaching them, she keeps going forward until she can see Tony in his armor, fighting Obadiah, who's about to launch a car at him.

She's a bit nervous, but a quick use of Calm Mind helps her before she uses Psybeam to make Obadiah release the car in his confusion. It works. So she's quick to use Telekinesis to move the car away from the Ironmonger. However, it doesn't cross her mind until then that the panicked person driving would still continue to, well, drive.

The car quickly approaches her, and she involuntarily uses a Teleport to move a couple of steps away from the car.

Luckily, it doesn't work like the Harry Potter Apparition. Instead, is more like... a blink?

She shakes her head. It's not the time to wonder about it. Better to help the people around as she promised Tony to not interfere with his fight.

Though she will still keep a close eye in case he needs helps.

Though when they start to fly, she once again grows worried, as this form can't fly. Or at least she doesn't know how at the moment. She keeps trying to follow them. Though when she realizes they are going down toward the Stark building, she teleports to where she last saw Pepper.

Just in time to see Pepper talking to a stumbling Tony. "Tony! Oh, my God, are you okay?"

Tony shakes his head as if to clear it before his voice comes out of the speakers. "I'm almost out of power. I've got to get out of this thing."

"Nice try!" Obadiah is the next to talk, his colossal form making a loud thud sound come from his fall. Tony is quick to use the flares, but with Pepper here, it's hard to do much without causing her damage. He turns his head towards her when he sees her. "Ev--"

'The Agent is behind you. Don't say my name out loud.'

Tony makes the motion of running a hand through his hair, but he stops after realizing he's wearing an armor at the moment. "Mew, move Pepper away!"

She's quick to help, grabbing Pepper in a princess carry, being careful of the blades in her arms. 'This isn't working, Tony! Also, Pepper is safe now. I'm returning to you.'

She's quick to teleport near him, just after he moved away from Obadiah. "We're going to have to overload the reactor and blast the roof."

She nods. 'Tell me what to do.'

"Go to the central console, near where we were standing after the interview I did, and open up all the circuits. When I get clear of the roof, I'll let you know. You're going to hit the master bypass button. It's going to fry everything up here."

'Give me a mental image of the process and I'm golden,' she's quick to say as she once again readies herself to run, pleased of how much stamina this form has even with all the helping she did around. Her breathing is even after all.

"I'll buy you some time, now go!"

She runs and when she rounds a corner, the last sight she has of Tony is of him pulling out some wire from Obadiah's armor.

When she reaches the place where the arc reactor is, she sees some panels. It takes her a minute to recognize the one Tony thought about. When she's in front of it, she connects to Tony's mind. 'I'm here. Off the roof, now, Tony!'

She looks up, but still sees both of them in their armors, on top of the roof. She waits at him to move but he can't. Instead, he hears his voice. "Hit the button!"

'No! Move away first!'

"There's no time! Do it!"

She growls as she prepares for a quick teleport as she hit the button.

She hopes she reaches him in time.
