A Lost Souls Journey

[Currently participating in the August Prompts Contest. Please support me with power stones and collections!] --- I've never had a will in life. I've always lived for the sake of living. Absolutely none of it had anything to do with a goal. Whether it be getting a degree that I wanted, finding the love or simply appreciating everything. I've never felt any of it. I'm not sure why I felt this way, but I will enjoy my life to its fullest—or at least try to. Blink. My eyes opened and I found myself alone in the wilderness. It was only a few years later that I had realized that I had awoken in another world filled with cultivation. "Magic? Swordsmanship? Getting stronger?" None of that mattered. Since, I had somehow gained eternal life before even travelling into this world. "I'm not sure why I'm in this world. Nor do I expect an answer. But I know one thing for sure.." It had as if I had gained the will to finally do something. Whether it be utter despair or immense happiness that I feel... "I want to explore this world filled with Swords&Magic and experience it!" My eyes glistered. --- I just want to let you all know that this book isn't going to be your generic cliche Isekai but something else different. Although, my writing quality may be lacking, I will still try to make up for it with making a satisfying power progression—and not just give Johan, Our MC, everything from the start. This story will support the eternal life theme but will be slowly paced so please be patient. I'm new to writing on this site. But I have written a few unreleased books in my spare time. So please be harsh on this Little Guru. Chapter length — 750+ words (After mass release) Mass releasing 5000+ words.

Edibility

I sighed.

'But I can't waste time..'

I needed to find out.

Since, when I looked at the sun,

It was beginning to set.

"How frustrating.."

I didn't know a thing about the habitat that I was currently in.

If I didn't somehow confirm this and find shelter, I could be in danger.

—But my prayers were never answered.

In fact, it only felt like fate was against me myself.

'How unlucky can someone be..?'

Growl—

Beneath the tree branch, there was a pack of wolves approaching.

They didn't seem like they had seen me yet.

There were five in total.

Four adults and one child.

But even the child looked half the size of me—even when I was pretty tall.

'My god..'

My breathing began to feel haggard.

I didn't know if they could climb up the tree.

Neither did I want to take any chances.

I needed to calm down.

If not, immense danger would be all that was waiting for me.

"Huuu..."

It took a few seconds but my body's state felt better.

'How can wolves be so massive..?'

Even the biggest breeds in the world were weighing around sixty kilograms.

But these?

They were at the minimum one and a half times larger than that.

Not just that, they were also incredibly good at coordinating.

"But I can't just focus on these guys.."

I needed to eat.

My stomach began growling.

I needed to test out the fruits.

I knew that using my mouth was ruled out.

So were my eyes or other sensitive parts of my body.

Then how?

A thought suddenly flashed into my head.

'Hold on..'

If the strongest parts of your body like the bones were very strong against any kind of pain.

"Can't I test it out with my elbow?", I muttered.

Observing how my elbow is one of the places in my body where it is not protected by much tissue.

I could do it also in places like my knees.

But that wouldn't be practical at all.

If the fruit was poisonous, it would definitely harm my tissue and that could affect my ability to walk.

'Besides, I'm not in the position to test that out when I am not the greatest in medical related things..'

Then,

"Let's try it."

I took the strange fruit out and rubbed the inside of my elbow against the fruit juice after cutting a slight part of the skin out.

'Hm..'

I needed to wait a bit more.

A few minutes passed.

I counted it to be around eleven or twelve minutes.

If the fruit was poisonous, I would feel some sort of tingling sensation or sense of burning.

But I couldn't feel that at all.

It felt the same as normal.

I sighed out of relief.

I knew that this meant that it was edible.

"I can't think of what would happen if I failed.."

Because that would mean that I'd need to leave the tree and look for somewhere else to eat,

Or just starve myself throughout the night.
