A Guest? and a Bit of Magic

A/N: Fair warning of a bit of name changing!!! Granny Viola as in earlier chapter was clan named Air-walker before, changing it to Wind-Strider. For those familiar with Skyrim creation club stuff a Nord dragon slayer guy with the Dragon plate mail armor set is found dead wearing this set. Choosing This clan also lets me play around actual Lore from the elder scrolls universe. Such as references of Nocturnal with the Inn name and the family's connection to the Thieves Guild. And also connections to, eventually, get to Skyrim and her people. A certain red haired person in 4E 201 sneezing...

Keep in mind I'll be playing a bit of favorites here when it comes to the "Spirits" as known by the Khajiit or Dedra/Aedra. My Favorite lore wise would have to be Nocturnal even if she did try to destroy everything to become "Infinite". Fun story you should look it up. As far as Characters, Sheogorath Takes the Cheese! And I've hinted at it before but the Shivering Isle is on the to do list for places to go. We will be in Elderscrolls universe for quite a bit before we can travel again so we will be seeing quite a bit more of it before the whole Thalmor Debacle.

Thank you all for being patient for chapters. finally off vacation so my nights will be entertaining myself with writing this after work.

Waking up was an interesting ordeal. Having already turned into the next morning, I walked absentmindedly towards the stairs. Smells coming from the kitchen beckoned me forward and i would find their source!

What awaited me was a more traditional spread of Japanese cuisine as best that we could get here. Rolled omelets, rice, some leeks cut like spring onions, and a few makeshift condiments set up on the table. Absentmindedly i sat at the table and placed my hands together and said, "Itadakemasu" and started to pull things on my plate.

Interrupting my actions was a chuckle from a girl that threw me off. Turns out there was someone here! Looking around in my slightly less confused state i saw the fiery redhead from the tavern. So much to process in so little time. "Hello there." in my best impression, nailed it!

"Hello to you too, you gave us a bit of a scare when you didn't show up last night so my mother sent me by this morning to check up on you two."

"Ahh, makes sense. Sorry about that. Did my brother tell you what happened?" looking around i could focus more and saw Shirou was behind the counter of the little kitchenet.

"Yes, he told us it was a ritual left behind by your mother to help awaken something?" She was curious by her tone. A mage herself by chance? Also mother? Ahh right "mom" sent us via teleport to Cyrodil from Daggerfall.

"Yeah, It was to help with learning magic in general and was something she developed to be specific towards me due to my suspected physique. We wanted to get it out of the way so i could begin to learn Magic."

Almost gushing she said "Amazing, I've heard of rituals to allow a better connection to Magicka in general as well as certain elements as well. Their mostly prevalent in the Dunmer people to assist with their connection to fire. So to hear another ritual like it is amazing. But what is special about your physique that would require additions?"

Huh, so she probably is a mage or at least an aspiring one. "While my mother was a Breton we suspected my father to be Akaviri due to his cultural habits as well as later meeting my brother who came looking for him. Due to this, adjustment were needed to account for the other blood running through me. Just targeting the Breton bloodline would have made the ritual inept or cause it to malfunction. Since it was the case, my mother was very attentive for safety measures." A slight twitch on Shirou's face was worth it in the corner of my vision.

"Sounds like a good mother, Will say, most things heard out of High Rock aren't the most pleasant. The stories of infighting between the kingdoms are quite known after all." Finally i start to eat something since the food was starting to get cold now.

In between a few bites of rolled omelet i say, "Could have been worse for us. My mother was an independent mage. Non-nobility sort, she stuck to helping the poorer regions. She did have friends in high places though, so she was able to be funded. Nothing to grand since we were out to the villages that dot the landscape more often than not."

"Sounds better than most of what we hear come out of there. Some legends say men can go find a random hill out in High Rock and claim it as their new kingdom."

Pausing a moment i scrunched my face as i remembered that may have been a thing that actually happened in their history. "I can't say i disagree." answering her.

Holding out an arm she said, "I don't think we've been formally introduced. My name is Arela of clan Wind-Strider. You met my mom and aunt at the Inn while helping out but we were always so busy with the after affects of the crisis I didn't get to speak to you both all that much. Not to mention that grandma choose you as an apprentice."

Eating a spoon full of rice and swallowing i set it down to reach and grasp her hand. "A pleasure, my name is Azarius. Curiosity is getting the best of me here but are you a mage?"

"Oh, was it that obvious?" releasing my hand as she said so. "Just a guess since you said you were interested in the ritual."

She beams at my answer "Yes, i could see how that would give the impression. While i am training to be a mage I'd say I would lean more towards the Battlemage specialization. I was taught to use a dagger and bow since i was but a child. Only recently has my mother allowed me to pursue magic. They always said it's to volatile for a child to use so i was curious why she would train you while you are so young." she had a smirk at the end there.

"Now I have more of a look at you i can see why. You are quite mature for your age, even with the little stunt you were pulling back at the inn. Your brother sure suffered for it, haha." A cough in the background brought Shirou to my attention. as he was wiping down plate. He was decidedly turning away from us.

"Humm, yeah i can see how one would get that impression. But nevertheless i have my heritage to thank for when it comes to magic. Though today I'll be stuck in that book of Runes Granny Viola gave me." That was gonna be interesting since i only took a cursory glance yesterday before the ritual.

"That is perfectly alright. I was just supposed to come by today as a favor for Grandmother. She did say that you'd better be studying before she comes by." And with that i was just finishing my meal with a bit of tea.

"It's been wonderful talking with you Arela. Maybe once I'm a little more learned we can speak a bit more about our perspectives on magic?" My cheeky grin on my face as i said so.

She chuckled in good nature, "If i have time from my own studies and job. It would be lovely Azarius. Thank you again Shirou for breakfast. I'll be heading to the Inn now." As she got up herself. She turned away from me as my cheeky grin still present on my face. I gave Shirou the thumbs up and ran for the stairs. i overheard Shirou say "Cheeky brat." and a confused "What?" from Arela.

Getting back into my room, I went to the desk and sat down. The tomes from yesterday were arranged neatly with some parchment and paper. As i opened the tome i was quick to realize information was trailing on the edge of my mind. Bits and pieces were being arranged from what i was looking at. The tome was more a dictionary for what symbols meant what for the Dedric language. Looking at it like so made it easier to make sense of the information.

While i was curious on how i had such information i was more stunned by how the language seemed to be a more conceptual one. Each rune was a meaning similar to hieroglyphs. Packed to the brim with a central meaning but various additives and supplementary meanings behind it.

Looking through the book I didn't seem to notice the time go by as i was studying. each Rune was packed with esoteric and odd context. Not to mention how i was enjoying how each seemed to invoke their meanings. Such as when i saw the rune for Fire. I felt encompassed in a warm feeling while staring at it. Similar instances were throughout the book.

It wasn't until I found one particular symbol that i would stop. The symbol I recognized from the Oblivion game. The rune was the symbol for Conjuration as well. Its' main meaning was "Gate". This had also become a synonym for Oblivion. Then I remembered a particular thing from what Granny Viola said about Magicka. Magicka will adapt to the person and their perspective. Meaning if i see this symbol as just "Gate" well... Isn't a gate just a fancy Door?

And Just like that my perspective changed. The Symbol was originally giving off a felling of far off feelings of distant planes. Now, It resonated. I could feel it as it moved through my body. The dormant powers that my new sequence brought forth. The knowledge of how to use the new power coming to the front of my mind. I quickly moved from my seat. Standing next to the wall that led to the ritual room from yesterday.

Placing my hand on the wall i called the feeling to it. Light escaped from my hand as a deep blueish purple. The rune engraved itself on the wall and an outline was carved out in the wall. it was small, only enough to put my hand through. Pressing down on it the little box opened up like a window.

I could see now in the other room. The ritual seemed to have been cleaned up but i had a bit more important things to do than worry about that. The "door quickly closed itself.

"YES!!! IT WORKED!!!!" Shirou was quick to burst in after my shout. Not to mention i was also very tired as it used a lot of my Magicka to make the small door. I may have quite a bit for my young age, even if i don't have much to compare to, But still i did my first bit of Magic. Everything else so far was other people. It didn't feel quite the same as in this moment. I really was in another world. AND i just did Magic!

"What happened!?" Shirou was quick to bring me out of my musing.

"I just did my first thing ever with magic!" my geeking out very noticeable as i as hugging him before i even recognized my actions. I was practically vibrating with happiness at my small success. Jumping in my little hug. Even if said success was built on so many things going right. It was my first try and i did it!

Shirou just sighed while placing his hand on my head. Ruffling my red and black locks as he did so. "Good job, so mind explaining what you did?" and i was all to happy to do so.

"So first thing is i found the Dedric rune that coincides with Oblivion and it's closely associated with the Conjuration school. Looking at the rune as well as the esoteric meaning i was quick to associate that i could mean "Gate". With that i decided to skirt around the main meaning and use gate for another word for "Door". That gave me a resonant feeling and piggybacking off that feeling i was able to use the basic ability i gained as an "Apprentice" from the pathways we talked about. So using that feeling i was able to create the basic ability as more of a spell. Hence i made a "Door" in the wall. My first ever SPELL!"

He chuckled after my explanation. "Good job. As great as it sounds if i were you I'd hold off on any more spells though. Madam Viola said to wait for her before experimenting with magic."

i Pouted at him, "Aww, Oh well... STILL, that was amazing. It was such a rush to feel the Magicka as it responded. Though I will say it was quite Magicka intensive to use it like that."

"You just used a raw manipulation of it. From what I read from her books the runes are a bit more lenient for the cost but far less control. Since you were doing it unconsciously your Magicka wanted to do the best it could do."

"Since when are you an expert?" he chuckled and said, "I'm not, it was in the introduction."
