CHAPTER 6: Saviour

Diana Stallard Preface

Present Time

When I opened my eyes, I was lying in bed, and my whole body was hurting like someone was cutting me into pieces. I could feel the tube that was passed down in my throat. At this point, I could tell that I was alive but in a terrible condition.

I looked at the ceiling and then tried to look around to know where I was. I winced as I felt pain in my throat when I turned my neck to the side. Still, I turned my head to look on my right side.

There was a beeping sound continuously echoing in the room. My throat was dry like autumn leaves. The view in front of my eyes was such that I registered in my mind that I was in the hospital. So I'm saved.

Thank God!

The nurse near me realised that I had gained consciousness as I started moving. Then she checked me as well as my IV bag and left the room. I was only looking at her in this process as I'm unable to utter a single word right now.

After about ten minutes, someone entered the room where I was lying. I looked at the man who entered with the doctor. His appearance was a bit messy, but it didn't succeed in hiding his deviously handsome face. I was mesmerised enough to gaze at him without blinking my eyes.

If I say that I didn't see someone as good-looking as him in my entire life, it wouldn't be wrong.

When he looked at me after his conversation ended, I met a pair of most magnetic Blue eyes. Anger was evident in his vision.

Not long after, he composed himself and asked me in a somewhat familiar voice, "How are you miss?"

Now I realised from his voice that he was the same man who saved me last night. My eyes turned wet when memories of last night flashed in my mind. I wanted to say something, but a sudden wave of pain hit me. I couldn't speak a single word.

"Ughh", a groan escaped my mouth.

I struggled to talk, but the same man stated," It's ok. If you cannot speak right now, we'll converse some other time."

He gave me a gentle smile full of tiredness, then added.,"I have some critical work to do so I'll visit you in the evening... Make sure to be better in our next meeting."

I didn't try to say anything further. He said to the doctor in an authoritative tone, "If she needs anything, contact me as soon as possible. I have to go."

With this, our short conjunction ended before he disappeared from my view. He seemed to be a strong man, the way such a senior doctor was paying heed to his every sentence.

I was in pain, so I didn't think any further. The nurse injected something into my IV bag. After which, I went into a deep sleep.

I don't know how much I slept, but I was still in a similar hospital room when I opened my eyes again. This time my mind was not muddled like before. I could understand the situation quite clearly.

My pain lessens to some extent. I tried to speak, "Is anyone here?" I said in the weakest sound.

Then the same man came into my view, "You made me very worried, Signora. Not everyone gets to be still alive after getting internal injuries." he said with a calm expression on his face.

"I'm sorry. I" didn't mean to cause any disturbance. I pronounced, but half of the voice died in my mouth, and my voice was still weak.

"Oh no, no. I wasn't saying it to make you apologise to me," he said and sat on the chair near the bed.

"Signorina, Diana Stallard Preface. Isn't it? I want you to tell me what exactly happened that you were this injured.", he asked without beating around the bush, still calm as he was before.

"How do you know my name?" I asked in surprise.

"I apologise, but I had to know a little about the lady whom I saved last night and who was attacked today as well.", he informed me. "Believe me. I usually don't go around running a background check on every other person."

"I was attacked today?" I exclaimed loudly. Then I hissed because a wave of pain hit me intensely.

The man stood up and leaned on the bed with a worried expression, "It seems that news gave you a shock. However, you don't need to be this excited. Your condition doesn't allow you for such promptness, Signorina."

My pain eased a little after some while, and then I looked at him, who was still leaning. My eyes met with his cerulean blue eyes fringed with long eyelashes, and those were filled with genuine concern.

"I'm fine.", I said, diverting my eyes from looking directly into his eyes. Regardless of my assurance, doubt was visible on his face.

"I hope that what you said is true." he said with unknown expressions as if he looked right through me, "Besides, I was here to clear my doubts about the incident related to Signora," he said, then he sat down and crossed his legs. "I happened to know that the uncle of the only Heiress of Preface Enterprises is not really concerned about the kidnap and disappearance of his niece, or he wouldn't be enjoying his time here in Italy, particularly in Medici villa."

"He is not my uncle. He is the most despicable man I've ever seen in my life.", I said, blazing with anger. "He was the one who got some goons to kill me."

"So, what I believe was right. Even so, I want to know why he wanted to do this kind of thing only in Italy.", he was talking to himself.

He pointed his attention toward me. "So, Signora Diana, can you tell me clearly about your uncle? This can help me to restrict him from doing more evil."

"What makes you think that I should tell you all this?" I was doubtful of his questioning behaviour.

"If I tell you that I'm in charge here, and it is my right to know this to bring these criminal activities to an end", His voice was heavy with ruthlessness.

Maybe he is some cop here doing his duty when he found me.

He is too handsome for a cop.

"He is the half-brother of my father. After my father's death, he tried to get all my property by asking me to sign certain papers. But I was lucky not to sign them. He said that I, the owner of Preface Enterprises, must come to Italy to sign a most important deal. I had no way to refuse that, but I didn't know he wanted to kill me here in Italy. "I told him the truth. "Even though I still don't know why he chose Italy specifically."

He frowned and said," so that's how it is. " then he stood up and said with a smile, which was incredibly charming. This kind of smile can bewitch the female species.

"I doubted that, and now I want to know something important. The thing is that Signorina, your life is in extreme danger. Therefore I decided to take you responsibility as my guest, and you have to stay at my place until you fully recover." he sounded like he commanded me.

"But I cannot do that. I have to do something about this.", I protested. I want Anthony Preface to pay for his crime.

The man laughed at my exclamation, "I respect your courage, Signorina. But you have to understand that you are not in a condition to fight back against your uncle." he said as if replying to my thoughts.

I was disappointed a little, but the truth was crystal clear I could not do anything now.

"I'll take it as yes to my offer", He stood up from the chair. "Then I'll take my leave. You will be discharged in a week, and I'll be there at that time." he was about to go, but I stopped him.

"Can I know your name?" I asked. In all my conversations, I didn't get a chance to know his name.

"Deitrick", He declared.
