Family Secrets:Alphas Clash

“Oh my God! Zo, where have you been?!” I asked, running to meet him. “I'm so sorry, Gina. Sorry, I kept you worried, but I had to leave; staying with you was causing trouble.” Zo said sadly   "At least you are back now,” I said, smiling. “I'm sorry to say, Gina, I do not think I am free at the moment. It is the full moon, remember.” He said this, looking into my eyes.    “So you are leaving?” I asked in disbelief, and he nodded slowly before saying, “Not without what I gave you to keep for me." Then it clicked—the memories. But something was not right; I was having a bad feeling about this. “You ready?” He asked, and I nodded.    I lifted my face, ready for the kiss, but instead, he placed his forehead on mine. I expected to feel the strong zap of energy that usually comes with this act, but I felt numb instead.    Then he smiled and stood at his full height, and just like that, he left. I was still staring at a space when I heard a loud knock on the front door. I stood up to answer, and when I opened the door, I stared into the cold eyes of Zo. “I thought you just left; why did you come back?” I asked, hoping he would say it was because of me, but all that hope died down when his once bright golden eyes darkened and he asked, “What have you done?”   . . .  Regina Dark, in a bid to escape her ex at a party, stumbled upon a wounded man. Her little generous act changed everything as agelong secrets and hatred were exposed, packs destroyed, and generations buried with lies and false hope. What we do not know is how it affected her, positively or negatively.

I am a writer and editor by trade, yet I find this 1000% more difficult. So bear with me as I catch my stride and find my style. I hope you enjoy the story. English is my only language, and I will immodestly say I have a firm grasp of it. However, if there is something you don't understand, a word or expression, please ask, and I will try to clarify without spoiling as best as I can. Please let me know of any grammatical errors, continuity discrepancies, or anything else you think needs improvement. Thank you! ----- Photo credit: Thomas Breher via Pixabay (with added text by me).

The Guardian Spirit (The Guardians of Nine Heavens, Book 2)

Lucy Caldwell suffered a disaster in her childhood - her house was burnt, which turned fatal for her parents. She grew up in a children's house with other orphans. She could never forget the fire incident and was sure her parents were murdered, so she wished to investigate the case when she grew old enough. Lucy, like all the other children, frequents a Spirit School, where children are taught to control their inner spiritual energy. When they reach 15 years of age, they befriend spirits that reside in the vast Spirit Forest in East Land and receive the Bond Item - an object from the spirits which permits to summon them whenever in need. Each person is able to form a bond with a single spirit. However, there are certain spirits that never approach humans, are known as man-eaters and have marked severe borders on their territory, eating anyone who trespasses on them. Such is the clan of the tailed foxes - the Huli. Lucy has already reached 15 years, so she goes to the Spirit Forest with her classmates to befriend a spirit and bond with them. However, while sitting around a bonfire and listening to her classmates' scary stories, she remembers the dreadful day of how her house caught fire in past, and, worked-up, runs off into the depths of the forest to cry off her anguish. But as elders often say, dense forests are definitely not a place for little children to run around, for the danger lies in every corner, as Lucy soon comes to realise...
