CHAPTER 13: THERE IS NO HARM

BRIX

I arrived at Zane's office when Hazel was escorting two persons out. One of them was her mother and the other one was unfamiliar to me.

"Do not worry I make sure you are going to be my daughter in law." I heard her mother say even in a low voice.

Another plot of her to her own son. She keeps setting appointments to Zane into a blind date with her friend's daughters. Not even once Zane meets them. Shaking my head as I looked at them.

"Good day! Mrs. Vivian." I greeted her.

"What's so good about my day when I see a poor man like you? I do not know why Zane treated you well." She murmured.

I clenched my fist, controlling my emotion not to talk back. Ever since I became close to Zane. She is not fond of me. She looks down on me being an orphan. It was always me she sees all the time. Some of our friends were not always with Zane just me.

I met Zane when we were in high school. My mother was still alive back then. I was happy living with my mom even my dad left us. He has another family. I do not care about him anyway. I am the only child they had before separation so I only think of myself after my mom was gone.

After my high school, she died. I got finish my college through Zane's father. Though I got some money from my mother but not much. He sponsored everything. Both Zane and his father were so good to me while his mother was the opposite one.

Zane treated me like a real brother. That's why my loyalty is with him not his mother. I do not know why she is different. Both the male in their family were kind and good to all their employees. She is so high standard that we cannot even approach her.

I saw the other person bumped her shoulder to Hazel intentionally. The expression of her face became uneven. That made me mad and I do not care who she was with.

"Hey! Are you going to apologize to her?" I said as I grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing? Do not touch me." She said, shouting.

Mrs. Vivian turned around. Slapped at me and shouted. "You have no right to do that to her."

Zane came out from his office. "What's going on?"

I did not respond but went closer to Hazel. His mother was talking nonstop. Do I care? Nope!

"Are you okay? Does it hurt?" I asked as her hand was in her left shoulder.

"I-I am okay!" She said, rubbing her arm.

I glared at that woman who hurt Hazel. Zane waved the security.

"Escort them out and do not let this woman come again into this building." Zane said.

"You sided them than your mother?" Mrs. Vivian said angrily.

"Yes, Mother! They are family and all the people here working in my company are family." He told her. "I do not tolerate anything especially I saw it. She bumped her intentionally to my secretary."

The woman's face turned pale. She did not notice there is a camera outside Zane's office.

"If you do this again, Mom, bringing people without important appointment even if you are my mother. I will not entertain you." He said calmly this time. "This is not our house and I am not a teenager that you will always do what you want with my life. I can find a woman without your help." He added.

Glaring at me and walked away without saying a word. The woman with her did the same to Hazel and me. Now the scene is back to normal.

"Are you sure you're okay, Hazel?" Zane asked her.

"Yes Sir! I am alright." She gave him a small smile.

"Okay!" He said and turned to me. "And you, come to my office." I nodded but before that I glanced at Hazel.

She was feeling sorry for me. I just smiled at her and left, following Zane to the office.

As soon as the door closed, he apologized.

"I am sorry for what my mom did to you." He said, sitting in his chair.

"It is okay! I am used to it anyway." I grinned.

Yeah! I am used to her cold treatment on me. It does not matter. She is not mattered to me. I just do not like they treated my girl like that.

'Wait!?What! What did I say in my mind? My girl!'

Shaking my head and looked back at Zane. He was staring at me, raising his one brow.

"What?!" I asked. He was smirking at me and shaking his own head.

"If I were you, I should pursue Hazel later. This is your chance to start to make a move." Giving me an advice again. "The way you reacted to her was obviously you really like her. I have not seen you like that before."

True! I was very overprotected to her a while ago. It seems that I do not want to see bullying her. I am going to be their worst enemy.

"I heard your mother wants her to be the daughter in law no matter what." I said frankly with a smirk. I would not hide it to him.

"Enough of that! I want you to dig about the relationship with that woman. I want to know everything. I do not know why my mother treated her special. She even came to my office and want a position too." Zane instructed me.

"Okay, I get it." I replied.

"Now, choo... I need you to prepare the car. I have lunch meeting with Mr. Powell." He said, sending him away.

I left his office and saw Hazel in her table. I stood still at the door watching her for a moment. I think Zane might be right. I have been like her for a long time and I never even try to ask her, not even once.

Once Zane's done with his meeting, I will ask Hazel out or even send her home tonight. There is no harm in trying and being a coward is not helping me. I will start to make a move later. I will not end my day without doing nothing about.
