A Hero Adrift - Chapter 1 Page 3

Aaron felt a flicker of hope at her words, but it was quickly snuffed out by the weight of disappointment. "I don't know what to do. I feel like I've failed."

Simone reached across the table and took his hand in hers. "Hey, no need to feel bad. It's just one job. You're talented, hardworking, and dedicated. You'll find another one, one that appreciates you for who you are. Don't give up, okay?"

Aaron felt a warmth spread through his chest at Simone's words. He squeezed her hand in gratitude. "Thank you. You always know how to make me feel better."

Simone grinned. "That's because I love you, silly."

Aaron's smile grew wider, and his eyes shone with a glimmer of hope that Simone's words had ignited in his heart. As he looked at her, he felt a sense of comfort and reassurance wash over him. Maybe he hadn't failed after all. Maybe the rejection was a sign that something better was waiting for him. He felt a surge of determination welling up inside him, and he knew that he had to keep pushing forward. As he gazed into her eyes, he felt a deep sense of gratitude for her unwavering support. He was lucky to have her by his side, and he knew that with her by his side, he could conquer any obstacle that came his way.

As they sat in the coffee shop, they talked about the future and the endless possibilities that lay ahead. Their conversation gained momentum as they bounced ideas off each other and discussed their dreams and aspirations. Aaron was so lost in the conversation that he didn't even notice the passing of time. Just as they were about to delve into a new topic, Simone's watch alarm beeped, interrupting them. Her eyes widened as she looked down at her watch and let out a gasp of panic. "Oh no," she exclaimed. "I completely forgot! I have to go back to campus. I'm supposed to take a group of kids on a field trip in ten minutes! I'm sorry, Aaron," she said, quickly gathering her things. "I promised I'd do this, and I can't let them down."
