Surprise!

After watching a movie, Kahoru cleaned and put away her bowl and her pair of chopsticks. She walked towards the television and switched it off, she sighed. As she was going to her bathroom to take a relaxing bath, her phone started to ring. Kahoru stopped and turned to look at her phone that was buzzing on the kitchen bench.

Kahoru walked towards her phone and lifted it up to see the contact that called her. She wondered why they were calling so late at night. As soon she saw who had called her, Kahoru placed the phone back on the counter and made her way back to the bathroom. "I'll call her back later."

As Kahoru undressed, she heard a faint knock at her door. She paused for a moment and quickly dressed back up. She walked out of the bathroom, towards the entrance of her apartment. Kahoru looked through the peephole of the door to see who it was.

She was suprised by the person standing on the other side. 'Why is she here?' Kahoru slightly panicked and slowly opened the door. As the door opened, a lady barged in, completely soaked in rainwater. Rainwater had dripped onto the floor and had created a small puddle in the entranceway.

"Kahoru, why do you never answer my calls? You left me outside in the rain!"

"K-Kanna!? Why are you here? Don't move a muscle!!"

Kahoru quickly ran to her drawers in her room to find a spare towel. She then ran back and threw the towel over Kanna. "Use this."

"Thanks, I managed to get a week off from work and decided to fly over here."

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I wanted to surprise you!" Kanna then hugged Kahoru. Kahoru was startled over the sudden hug.

"Stop hugging me, you're wet." Kahoru desperately tried to push herself away from Kanna, but Kanna hugged her even tighter.

"Hahaha, never." She laughed at Kahoru who had struggled to release herself from the grip of the scary wet lady.

...

After drying herself, Kanna walked into Kahoru's apartment. She looked around and was shocked at how small the whole apartment room was. "Kahoru, This place is so small."

"It doesn't matter. I'm barely home anyway."

"You do make a good point, but it is still quite small."

"You should take a bath first. It's already ready." Kahoru changed the topic.

"Okay, I will."

"I'll get another towel for you." Kahoru headed into her room again to grab another towel whilst Kanna went back to the entranceway and dried off her suitcase. She dragged the red suitcase in and plopped it in the living/dining room. She opened her suitcase and took out her pyjamas and skincare bag. Kahoru then handed the towel to her.

"Thanks, Kahoru."

"The bathroom is over there." Kahoru pointed her index finger towards the door on the left of her apartment.

"Okay. See you!" Kanna walked into the bathroom and closed the door.

"What just happened?" Kahoru stood silently and blinked her eyes. Everything happened so quickly, she didnt have time to register. She wondered how Kanna had found her address to even be able to get to her apartment building.

She walked back into the kitchen and went to fill up her kettle to start boiling water. Kahoru went to grab two of her mugs and put a teabag in each mug. After the water finished boiling, she poured it into each mug carefully, she the added sugar and milk in both.

Kanna came out of the bathroom not long after and saw Kahoru sipping on her drink. Kanna walked up to Kahoru. Kahoru gently pushed the other mug towards Kanna. "Here drink this."

Kanna looked at the mug Kahoru had offered her and it was a cup of warm milk tea. Her eyes lit up and she accepted Kahoru's offer. "I miss drinking your milk tea. You make the best tea."

"Thanks but this tea is from a teabag. I can make fresh tea tomorrow." Kahoru continuously sipped on her drink.

Kanna looked a little disappointed. Regardless, she was still glad to be able to drink Kahoru's tea again. She paused for a second and looked at Kahoru. Kahoru was focused and was watching out from her kitchen watching the rain. She was glad her father took her back home, otherwise she would had came back all soaked in rainwater. Kahoru felt a pair of eyes behind her and turned to look at Kanna. Kanna was staring at her. "What are you looking at Kanna?"

Kanna placed her mug down and leaned towards Kahoru. She smiled and lifted her mug up showing the tea. "The milk tea you make is really good no matter how you make it."

"If you like it, then keep drinking. It's going to get cold if you keep complimenting me."

"You're the cold one..." Kanna mumbled.

"What?" Kahoru gave Kanna a confused look.

"Nothing." Kanna grinned. If she dared to say another word, she probaly be glared down by Kahoru's icy stares.

As Kahoru drank, she remembered what she had wanted to ask Kanna. She placed her mug down on the bench and looked over to her friend, who has happily sipping away. "By the way Kanna, How did you find my address and get into the apartment building?"

"Well, a lot happened." Kanna finished her drink and walked over to the sink. She started to wash her mug. She seemed a little nervous as if it was like she wanted to avoid talking about it.

"Well? Get on with it then. No one was supposed to know my address." Kahoru's was quite annoyed at the fact that someone had told Kanna where Kahoru had lived. Only her family members knew and her place was not quite suitable for guests to stay at as it was small.

Kanna placed the mug on a dish rack and walked back to her spot ready to tell Kahoru how she ended up in Kahoru's home.

"Well, I had to pester Mei for it. You know, she was dallying, but I was so determined that I went to her house every single day. She still wouldn't budge and ended up giving me your father's phone number. She said to ask your father since he knew your current situation. When I called him and told him my plans, he was quite happy to give me your address. So here I am at your house." Kanna nervously smiled at Kahoru. She scratched the back of her head and then chuckled nervously. "Ah Kahoru, are you happy now?"

Kahoru was in fact, not happy. Her face glowered at Kanna as her right eye twitched. She gulped down the rest of her drink and quickly washed her dish in silence. The silence was enough to make Kanna want to hide, but there was nowhere to hide. After placing her mug on the dish rack, Kahoru went back to the kitchen bench, grabbing her phone and dialled her father's number.

After a few rings, Makoto answered the phone. "Hello, Kahoru. Why are you calling so late at night?" He said in a tired voice.

"Why did you give Kanna my address?" Kahoru fumed.

"Oh, I just thought you could use some company." Makoto laughed quietly.

"Well next time, don't give anyone else my address or I'll move away."

"Okay fine. Can I go back to sleep now?"

"Yes. Goodnight." Kahoru mumbled as she hung up the phone. She turned to look at Kanna who sat next to her. "Kanna, You can stay, but tomorrow is my last day off so you can go explore Tokyo by yourself."

Kanna's eyes lit up and she grinned with all her might. "Really? Thank you so much." Kanna cheered and hugged Kahoru. Kahoru froze. She was still uncomfortable with Kanna's hug. Kanna soon let go of Kahoru and scanned Kahoru's apartment. "So, Where do I sleep?"

"Right here. We have to share a futon." Kahoru stood up and opened her closet. "You can set it up, I'm going to take a bath." Kahoru went back into the bathroom.

"Okay!" Kanna also stood up and she quickly walked towards the closet, grabbed the futon and began to set up.

Kahoru was once again in her bathroom. After undressing, she sat on the shower seat. She turned the handle and warm water started to stream out from the showerhead. She lathered her body and hair and played with the bubbles. Kahoru wiped her mirror to see what kind of hairdo she had created. It was somewhat similar to an afro. All of a sudden the door from the changing room swung open.

"Kahoru!" Kanna wailed as she burst in. Kahoru jumped from the sudden intrusion and froze. She turned to look at Kanna with a shocked expression on her face. Kanna was shocked at the way Kahoru looked and burst out laughing.

"Hahaha! Kahoru, you have an afro!" Kanna continuously laughed until tears started to roll down her eyes.

"Kanna, get out!" Kahoru shouted in embarassement. She grabbed the bar of soap that was in front of her and threw it at Kanna. Kanna shrieked and immediately closed the door. The bar of soap hit the door with a thud. Kanna immediately ran towards the futon and hit under the covers. She still laughed at the fact Kahoru had an afro.

"Jeez." Kahoru sighed. She turned the shower back on and rinsed herself off. After cleaning herself, Kahoru decided not to take a soak in the bath. She grabbed a towel and dried herself off then changed into her pyjamas. She dried her hair and walked out of the bathroom.

The room was silent except for the television that was on. Kahoru looked at the lump that was formed under the blanket on one side of the futon. Kanna had fallen asleep. Kahoru walked to the table and grabbed the remote to turn the television off. She grabbed her phone and turned on the flash. She softly walked towards the switch and turned the lights off. Then snuck back and slipped into the other side of the futon. She turned towards Kanna who slept soundly. Kahoru wondered why Kanna had burst into the shower. 'I'll ask her tomorrow.' She thought to herself. After the eventful day Kahoru quickly fell asleep.

It was a chilly Sunday morning and Kahoru had woken up to the sound of pots and pans clanging. She slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes and brushed her hair back with her hands. She yawned and quickly realised that Kanna was in the kitchen. With the realization, Kahoru started to panic. She instantly jumped out of bed and quickly rushed into the kitchen. There was Kanna, humming to a song while she cooked eggs.

"Kanna, what are you doing?" Kahoru cried.

"Oh, me?"

"Yes you!"

"I'm cooking breakfast." Kanna giggled and turned back towards the frying pan. Kahoru was mortified. Back when they stayed together in America, Kanna would completely burn anything she cooked. She was horrible at cooking. "Let me take over Kahoru. I have improved on my cooking ever since you left."

"I-," Kahoru sighed. She immediately gave in. "Fine, you better prove it to me." Kahoru walked back into the bedroom. She folded the futon and placed it back into the closet, then pulled out her coffee table and zabutons. After she finished setting everything up, she smelt something foul. Kahoru immediately gagged and quickly pinched her nose. She ran back into the kitchen and gave an unsurprising look at Kanna. Smoke had filled up the kitchen and Kanna was panicking. Kahoru went back into the room and towards the balcony. She slid the door open as wide as it could open to air out her apartment.

Kahoru walked back into the smoke-filled kitchen and grabbed the burned frying pan and placed it under a tap. She turned the cold water on and a loud sizzling sound came from the frying pan. As the pan cooled down, Kahoru also opened the kitchen window to let the smoke out.

"Kahoru I'm really sorry." Kanna was ashamed and hung her head low.

"Living room, now." Kahoru's voice was stern, but still a little bit lenient. Kanna was spared and as she walked into the next room, she sighed in relief. Kahoru Immediately soaked the burned-out pan in soap and water, so it would be easier to wash in a couple of hours. She went to grab another frying pan and started cooking.

...

Kanna patiently waited in the living room feeling very guilty about what had happened in the kitchen. The truth was that she wanted to cook Kahoru a meal for letting her stay over last minute. She really thought she could cook this time. Ever since Kahoru had left America, Kanna only went out to eat, she never cooked anything.

The smell of smoke had slowly gone away and has been replaced with a pleasant aroma had filled up the apartment. It was the smell of an American breakfast.

The smell had Kanna drooling as her stomach rumbled. She was ecstatic to eat Kahoru's food once again.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Kahoru had just finished plating up the food. The meal consisted of bacon, a pork sausage, sunny side up eggs and maple syrup glazed pancakes with a little butter on top that was slightly melting from the heat. She took the plates into the living room along with the cutlery. As soon as Kahoru walked in, Kanna's mouth watered even more.

"Kanna, you're drooling." Kahoru placed Kanna's plate of food down in front of her. Kanna realised and snapped back to reality, quickly grabbing a tissue and wiping her mouth with it. Her eyes glimmered with delight.

"Kahoru, your food looks too good to eat!"

"Well, then I'll eat it instead." Kahoru teased Kanna and reached out to the plate of food in front of her. Kanna noticed what Kahoru was about to do and immediately pushed Kahoru's hand away.

"Okay okay, I'll eat it." Kanna pouted at Kahoru and grabbed the knife and fork that was in front of her, quickly gobbling down the food as if she had been starved for days. Kahoru rolled her eyes at Kanna and looked at her breakfast.

"Thank you for the meal."
