Chapter 38: Bittersweet Poison
Derek was struggling with the hound creature. He was fortunate that he had a shield that could protect his body not only from the wickedly, sharp barbed tail, but also from the fire that the hound breathed. He couldn’t see how Alyssa had been doing, but from the quick glances he was able to afford it appeared as if she had things under control. The hound was very strong, and quick, but he learned that in having a strong attack the creature had a very poor defense; the skin and flesh were soft. All he had to do was time it perfectly and give the creature what it wanted.
