1 THE WALK HOME

Samantha tried to hail down a taxi to no avail. 'Mmmhh busy night ' she thought and decided to walk home instead of waiting all night for a taxi.

She didn't live that far from her workplace but it was quite a distance though she could manage. Church bells tolled in the distance and she could see people rushingto church.

'Must be one of those Christian holidays for a mass to be held at night' she thought to herself as she walked pass the church.

Why people belived in God she wondered for she could find no reason nor evidence as to why people believed in such a thing. In her perspective if there was such a thing as a God then why would he leave us to suffer why would he have let her parents die.

''People are stupid" she said " They'll believe anything for no good reason just to have some sort of explanation as to why certain things happen"

An hour later she was home and just in time it would seem as rain started to pour as she closed her apartment door. She removed her shoes and placed them by the door then dumped her bag on the couch and headed to the kitchen. She opened the fridge and looked dissatisfied.

"Nothing " she said " Why do I always forget to buy food, ahhhh guess it's pizza again"

She grabbed her phone dialed the local fast food restaurant and ordered a medium sized pepperoni pizza. After placing her order she went to her bathroom for a shower. After a nice warm shower her doorbell rang. She went to the door and looked through the spy hole and saw it was the pizza guy. She opened the door got the pizza and gave the guy his money and he left.

She closed her door and went to her favorite sit by the window. From here she could see the streets below ,the people walking down the streets and the cars that passed by.

She took out her favorite novel, one she had read too many times to count Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone. She had read this book ever since she had learned to read. It was a book that her Dad read to her as a child.

She took out her book and began to read while eating.

An hour later she heard the sky rumble.

'Mmmhhh' she thought what time is it '. She looked at her watch and it was 11:45pm.

'Almost midnight ' she thought ' I best go to bed, don't want to over sleep and be late for work '. As she was picking up her book and leftovers a huge flash of light flashed in the sky and a loud explosion shortly afterward.

' Lightning ' she thought, but no that was to bright and the thunder too loud. She looked across her window and in the distance she could see the city park on fire.

A few minutes later she could hear the wail of sirens of fire trucks rushing to the scene.

"Well at least the fire will be put out " she said and went to the kitchen and put the leftover pizza in the fridge and headed to her bedroom. She turned switched off the lights and a few minutes later she was fast asleep.
