A Failed Pro's Resurgence

After Humanity fails to stop an incoming meteorite from hitting Earth, everyone despairs. Just as the world is ending everyone on Earth is transmigrated to a game-like world. After being transmigrated, everyone from Earth is given their own private world in which they need to survive in. Watch as a failed pro gamer rises to the challenge and overcomes everyone. - Auxiliary chapter is background setting (info dumps) but it's not very important as it mostly discusses Earth and the story will take place in an alternate world. Will try to get out at least 1 chapter a day hopefully 2. I'm a slow writer but I will try to improve my writing speed.

Sam was still shocked after being transmigrated to the completely white room.

It had been a normal day in Star City, up until that point where he felt himself losing consciousness.

Suddenly a robotic voice sounded in Sam's ear.

[Welcome Participants to The Worlds]

[You and the rest of Humanity have joined The Worlds]

[Choose your World and Skill and survive]

[You will be able to trade after 7 days]

[Enjoy]

Sam's thoughts were still confused.

'Is this serious? It's as if I'm in a game right now' Sam thought.

Prior to Sam transmigrating, Sam had been a talented pro gamer. However due to his nervousness to compete on the big stage, Sam had ultimately failed.

Sam regaining some kind of composure stood up and took a look around himself. Sam abruptly ran into the white surrounding him.

However, it kept going and Sam never hit the wall he thought he would hit.

"This is real." Sam said.

"This is real!!" Sam shouted.

Sometimes letting out a good shout to get something across works best.

Suddenly, a sad thought came to Sam's mind. 'Are my grandparents and family also here? They must be since the voice said all of Humanity.'

Saddened, Sam thought 'What would happen to them? The rest of his family should be ok since they weren't that old yet. However his grandparents were in their 80s and couldn't move that well anymore.'

On queue.

[Anyone above the age of 60 has not joined The Worlds]

Phew.

"At least my grandparents and the other elderly will be alright. Well at least it's not surviving in some new world." Sam said glad for this system telling him.

"Sigh. I should focus on my problems first." Sam said as he looked to the display.

Coming to grips Sam looked at the updated display again.

It showed two columns.

[Worlds] < | > [Skills]

'Simple yet elegant' thought Sam

Sam quickly began to reflect on what the voice had said earlier, the words still ringing in his head.

'So we need to survive for 7 days. Well at least until trading opens up. I assume we could trade with other people for food and water. I'm not sure if people would trade those resources very easily though. And it's as if it's a game as well with this weird display.'

With those thoughts in his mind, Sam opened up the [Worlds[ and [Skills] menus simultaneously with 2 displays popping up side by side with scroll bars.

The [Worlds] section showed different landscapes with varying climates and biomes.

[Riverlands]

[Grassland]

[Plains]

...

Clicking on the first option [Riverlands] which had a picture showing flat grassy land with a river, and some bushes and trees.

[Riverlands]

Description | [Grassland with rivers, sparse trees and shrubs]

'Basically what the image showed huh? Seems survivable, granted there are fish in the river. There should at least be some berries in the bushes lying about. Most importantly there's drinking water in the river.' Sam thought to himself

After taking a look at the [Worlds] section Sam turned his attention to the [Skills].

[Intuition]

[Memorization]

[Understanding]

...

"Intuition..the first one already looks pretty good." Sam said to himself

[Intuition]

Description | [Improves existing Intuition]

'For people with an already good Intuition this would be very good. Even people with little intuition would benefit with decision making. This could definitely be an option for myself since my Intuition is good.'

Sam spent time analyzing the situation with his new knowledge.

'The voice wanted me to choose my own skill and world that will benefit me the most. That's why there are so many options I suppose.'

Sam tried to piece together with what little information he had to understand his situation better. In the end he decided to pick a [Skill] first, after all it would definitely effect his decision for his world.

After spending a couple hours scrolling and looking at the descriptions of many of the skills, and yes he hadn't even looked at all of them. The ones that interested him the most were.

[Intuition]

Description | Improves existing Intuition

[Recovery]

Description | Heal injuries slightly faster

[Organ]

Description | Slightly enhances organs

[Lucky Guess]

Description | Take a lucky guess once a week

"These were some skills that improved the general body of us." Sam explained to himself.

Sam started to rethink which skill he should choose. '[Recovery] and [Organ] can already show how skills in this "game" are sorta supernatural. They can improve things normally not possible. I'm sure some health experts are gaping right now.'

'Lucky guess interested me because despite it can't really help me survive, supposing I picked it and then it used to before choosing my [World] I could pick the best one. Picking our [World] seems irreversible or at least it'll stick around.'

"Do I pick it or not..enhanced organs could keep me alive in tough times though..I suppose taking [Recovery] could also save me if I get injured. [Lucky Guess] wouldn't be so bad on the other hand. I could end up picking some good [world] and make a lucky decision afterwards." Sam mused to himself.

"Whatever luck wins." Sam said, hopeful for some miracle.

Clicking [Lucky Guess] Sam felt invigorated with a special feeling.

"I guess this is the feeling of lucky people." Sam muttered

The [Skills] screen disappeared leaving only [Worlds] now.

Next was just to use [Lucky Guess] and hope for the best.

Too bad Sam didn't actually know how to work this skill.

"How does this even work..where is a manual when you need one." Sam said.

Closing his eyes, Sam thought back to the feeling he received when obtaining the skill.

"Activate." Sam said quietly while opening his eyes. Hoping for something to happen.

Thankfully something did happen.

Sam felt a small connection connect within himself.

Sam instantly started scrolling down madly down the [Worlds] options. It felt like he scrolled for 10 minutes until he finally stopped scrolling.

Despite scrolling through tens of options every second it took Sam 10 minutes to reach where he felt was promising. It wasn't at the bottom of the options but it was close.

"Phew." Sam let out.

Regaining his composure Sam finally focused on what his option was.

He hadn't released where his finger was pressing towards in order to not lose his [World].

However, what Sam saw just from the picture of this [World] made him gasp and almost spit out blood similar to the novels he had read.

It showed a barren land made entirely out of gray rock. Not to mention this rocky surface did not look easy to break. Oh God! He hadn't even mentioned the steep mountains made of the same rock that seemed to jump out of the ground. Lava dripped down the mountains into small lava rivers along the surface of the mountains and surrounding lands. Sam couldn't see the sun either. He hoped it was just night time when the photo was taken. Gulp. Sam saw no water or anything even close to edible, just stone and lava.

(AN: Just look at book cover and that is the picture of the world he is looking at)

At that moment Sam was still shocked and crazed to his core.

Sam read aloud the name of this horrid [World].

"Desolate Waste. How the hell am I supposed to survive here!" Sam yelled out to this cruel game.

"Did I just waste my free skill just to obtain this piece of garbage!"

"This is worse than garbage! There will always be something of some value in garbage however this is just like dropping someone randomly in the middle of the pacific and telling them to survive."

Frustrated out of his mind, Sam took deep breaths and after a while he managed to calm his anger.

"Lets take some time to consider the situation." Sam said to himself.

'What is luck? Luck is fortune, or, basically something that will benefit myself. I don't believe that my skill would lead me to death. It takes 7 days for this skill to charge!'

Looking at every nook and cranny of the image of Desolate Waste Sam suddenly remembered something.

"I still have to look at the description." Sam said while slapping his forehead.

Desolate Waste

Description | Rock for soil. Lava rivers. Occasional springs atop mountains.

Gasp!

"Okay so there is water. Water is the most essential thing for survival. 3 days with no water is death." Sam still said happily.

Exiting the description and looking at the image of Desolate Waste still left a bad feeling to Sam though.

"On second thoughts maybe this is just false hope. I don't see any water atop those little mountains they just look like tall pointy wizard hats." Sam muttered.

Remembering the words from the very start.

"7 days until trading will open." Sam said as he remembered.

It had already been some hours since he had arrived at nothing but this seemingly white void.

Thankfully there were still varying colors on the display.

'Maybe with trading I can get resources from my family. However I was never a burden to my family. Will I now be one when we are in this situation?'

Sam was saddened at breaking his morals just for his skill about luck. Sam would have cursed his luck however he didn't want to end up inflicting bad luck on himself now that he was already in this predicament.

"Maybe I need to look at this from a different angle. This is similar to my sisters going to university to get a degree. My parents invested in them so that they could get a better job after getting their degrees. Yes, that's what I'm doing." Sam voiced to himself in order to better convince himself.

Looking again at the image of Desolate Waste it didn't particularly help his case though.

Sigh.

Mom. Dad.

"I promise to survive in this 'Desolate Waste' and not become a burden." Sam announced to his parents.

With that, Sam clicked onto [Desolate Waste] thus completing his selection of his [Skill] and [World].
