1 A Preface

(This is the author here giving some general thoughts and a synopsis, please feel free the skip if you're not interested)

Opening thoughts:

Wow, there's so much that I want to talk about and so much I want to say, but I don't even know where to start much less where to end. So, this is my first ever novel, Dream of the Sky. I plan on making it the first book of a series with 3 in total, although that may change. At the time that I am writing, or typing actually, the story is still unfinished and I have only started on the first few chapters, although I do have a general idea of the plot. It goes without saying then that I do not have a table of contents, so my apologies.

I got the inspiration from a variety of stories, mainly isekai ones. To be honest, I was generally disappointed in the genre and how it becomes mindless wish fulfillment rather fast. If possible, I want to change that with this novel. To me, isekai feels like one of those genres of fantasy that still haven't reached their full potential, so I want to explore it more in these webnovel.

For this reason, I want to maintain what in my opinion is a passable quality of writing, so please be patient with me. I'll apologize in advance for the slow updates. I feel like I will need the time to craft a unique story.

That said, this web novel won't be your standard fantasy story with a good guy hero and bad guy villain doing good and bad things for the sake of the plot. This will be a very dark novel featuring multiple very messed up characters doing messed up things and exploring the darker grey morality of this new world. The dark nature of this story becomes very clear in the first few chapters, which will be featuring multiple scenes of murder, rape, abuse, and more. This novel will be rated mature, so please take note of what you are comfortable with reading before continuing past this point.

A general plot synopsis:

The story takes place in the aftermath of the demon king's defeat at the hands of the chosen one. However, he didn't go quietly. Before the chosen one finally took him down he managed to destroy the gods, break the sky, and stop the sun from ever rising again. The world is in turmoil, and awaiting the arrival of a prophesized hero that would save them from the hell that is a world without sunlight. Humanity is still alive and kicking, albeit constantly abused and oppressed by the ruling class that is claiming to protect them. Additionally, anyone who dares speak out against them finds their already limited food rations reduced to nothing. It's a dark world where the law of the jungle rules, and kill or be killed is a fact of life.

As typical with epic fantasy, there is more than one main character. This story will be told from a limited 3rd person perspective of 4 different "main" characters. The general plotline follows their story, which are connected in the overall conflict that will be the inevitable result of trying to save the world. Their page time will differ, and it will take some time before all of them are introduced.

Final thoughts:

I'm a new writer, as a mentioned before, so please feel free to give honest criticism and advice on the story. I would appreciate it very much. I don't have a discord server up yet, but I think I may create one, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested. I appreciate genuine constructive criticism the most, and I'll do my best to respond to any reviews and messages.

This story probably will be dropped and rewritten multiple times, or simply put on hiatus. I'm not sure if I can, but I'll do my best to finish. Well, I'm probably getting old and repetitive by now and you just want to continue on to the actual story. I'll stop rambling now, go ahead, and enjoy!
