I reached out to grab my phone, which lay peacefully on the table, and hastily typed a text message to her, my fingers tapping against the screen. "I miss you," I wrote, my longing pouring through the words. "Can we meet in the evening, please?" My heart raced with anticipation as I hit the send button, eagerly awaiting her response.
Five minutes felt like an eternity, but finally, her reply came through. The screen illuminated with her words, piercing my heart. "No, Hun," she responded curtly, a coldness seeping through the digital message. "How cruel you're." I read her words, feeling the weight of her accusation, the sting of rejection. "Yes, I'm," she added, emphasizing her callousness. A sense of despair washed over me, mingling with the confusion that clouded my thoughts. "Huh," was all I could muster in response.
