Your favorite party trick

Jason grabbed hold of Jenny's hand, pulled her gently outside and closed the door. As soon as the backdoor closed, the front door was opened by a crew of six men and women. They wasted no time and split up in three groups to dress up the dining room, prepare the meal and get the proposal dessert ready. In just an hours time, they had converted the dining room in an Easter-wonderland with a big splash of romance, a lovely meal was placed on the table, looking almost fairytale-like, and a grand chocolate Easter-egg was prepared. The egg was hidden in the kitchen for now and was left on a serving platter with instructions for Jason. Now that their job was done, they cleaned up, packed their equipment and left the house after leaving the key on the table in the living room. Jason nervously turned around the last corner in their route, signalling the end of their walk. By now they were just five minutes away from the house. He hoped the crew had gotten everything ready on time. When they reached the French doors from which they exited, Jason could finally feel relieved seeing everything was ready and no people were in sight. The sigh that left Jason's mouth did not escape Jenny's attention and she turned towards him. Seeing him turning his face quickly from the house to the path in front of him, sparked her curiosity. She turned to the direction he was facing and saw that the sheer curtains were closed half way and through the opening she could see that the table was already set. She clearly remembered that they had left the curtains open completely and she was damn sure they hadn't prepared dinner. What was going on?

Jenny looked in Jason's direction, but he just pulled up his shoulders pretending to not know what was going on either. He opened the door for her and let Jenny step inside. After coming inside, Jenny could admire the beautiful set table and the decorations that filled the room. While she was doing this, Jason pulled her in an hug from behind and let her take it all in. "Surprise.." He said gently in her ear. "I wanted to give you an Easter dinner. With your love for chocolate, how could I let you miss out on this holiday". Jenny looked up at this wonderful man and flashed him an excited smile before releasing herself from his embrace and sitting down to enjoy the beautifully prepared dinner. Jason let out a chuckle before taking off his own coat and joining her. As dinner was coming to an end and it was almost time for the grand finale, Jason revealed that this dinner wasn't just for Easter, but also for his birthday. He explained how he wanted to celebrate it with just her and that the party next week he had talked about was a belated birthday celebration for family and friends. Jenny was speechless. How could she not know his birthday. She hadn't prepared anything, she hadn't even wished him a happy birthday. How was she going to make up for this mistake, especially after all the nice things he had done and prepared for her for this week. Even today, he had done everything himself, giving her a surprise dinner, when it was his birthday! "Why didn't you tell me it was your birthday? I would have prepared something. I didn't even get to wish you a happy birthday..." "Don't worry about it. I was the one who decided not to tell you. I like surprising you and you spending my birthday with me alone is what I wanted. If you want to give me something, then give me a positive reaction to the next surprise I have prepared and enjoy this day with me to the fullest" As Jason said this, he stood up from his chair and went to the kitchen to get the chocolate egg containing the ring. After warming up the chocolate left by the baker for melting the egg open, he returned to the dining room and started the speech he had prepared while he was walking towards the table.

"My dearest Jenny, my feisty little tigress, I had not planned on doing this and had originally prepared this for something else, but in the course of this week we have spent with each other, we have grown really close and one thing you said during one of our talks really stuck with me. It inspired me to do what I am about to do and what better way, than with your favorite party trick." As he was saying this Jenny was looking at him questioningly until she saw the egg. Her questions made way for excitement. Jason placed down the platter and started gently pouring the chocolate as he continued his speech. "I know that I might get the same reaction I got a few months ago, but my feelings have not changed. If anything they have become stronger. As we have not determined what we are to one another, I wanted to use this chance to make our titles clear. Jenny would you make my birthday complete by accepting me as your fiance and future husband? If this proposal is not up to your standards yet, I will get on one knee for as many times needed and will make each proposal more extravagant than the other so that you can have the most amazing story to tell our future children."

The moment of the hour is near, can you feel it! Hopefully I am able to publish it today. Till then, enjoy!
