Wolf in sheep's clothes

What followed after Max's proposition was an ear deafening silence, which to him seemed to last ages. So, he repeated the last part of his question, "Well? Can you?". Though Jenny wasn't sure if it was a good idea, she was starting to feel bad for Max. She had already rejected him and his job offer as well as his friendship. Did she need to reject this as well? What was the harm in this? She could quit at any point and this way she didn't have to give up half way. Not unless he gave her reason to and him looking at her with those puppy dog eyes weren't helping in her resolve from before to stand firm. So with much hesitation she said, "Alright..Fine. We will stay class representatives together, but just that. Nothing more or less. We will keep it strictly professional. No bringing me snacks or books. No sending me funny memes or work-unrelated messages. Our contact will be limited to that which is needed to do a good job and if at any point you cross my boundaries, I will quit without a moment's notice. Can you agree with those terms?"

Max smile was ear to ear as he nodded his head frantically. "Yes, yes I agree. That is all I want. And in return, you must promise to keep your word as well. Once I prove that I am over you or I find someone of my own, we can be friends once again. Deal?" Jenny took the hand Max held out and said, "Deal." With that Jenny turned around once more and left. Relieved that she didn't have to lose this friend indefinitely, but hopefully just temporarily. The moment she turned around, Max's expression changed to a more scheming one and once the door fell into the lock he said, "If a girlfriend is what I must gain, then a girlfriend I shall gain." This showed that Max never really planned on giving up and was in fact planning to use Jenny's own words against her.

Little did both of them know that though the rooftop was off limits for most students, that same 'rule' did not apply to those in Jason's friend group. One of those people being Elizabeth, who had apparently not gone to inform Jason, but instead had chosen to use Nick as her messenger as she went to listen in on their conversation. Though part of the reason was that she thought that both of them being later was less suspicious than just Jenny, the other part was that she did not trust Max. She had to hear and see first hand what he would say in reaction to Jenny's question. To see if there was something that she noticed that Jenny might've missed in case he would deny it. But much to her surprise he admitted his feeling and Jenny told him that she could no longer be friends. All was going well until he manged to sneak one foot in between the door, right before it could be shut completely. Though she did not hear the words about getting a girlfriend nor did she see his look when Jenny turned around, the fact that he had confessed to Jenny and had found a way to stay by her side, made it clear to her that Max wasn't as innocent as he seemed. He was merely a wolf in sheep's clothes.

When Jenny came out she managed to hide herself in a corner of the stairwell. She couldn't let her find out that she had eavesdropped. All she could hope for that her friend knew what she was doing and that she would tell her of the events on the rooftop herself. When Max stepped out, she revealed herself.

The startled Max greets her like nothing had happened. "Elizabeth...What brings you here. I didn't think anyone else would come up here with this weather." Elizabeth was in no mood to play a game of back and forth with him and came straight to the chase. She had become quite protective of her friend over the time and if she didn't see the danger, then she would have to protect her from it instead. Not wanting to see her friends get hurt, she gave Max a warning. As she put on a stern threatening face she said, "Drop the act. I might not know what you are up to, but I know it isn't anything good. So, I hope you know what you are doing. The price of messing with Jason's fiance is too high for you to bear." With that she turned around and followed after Jenny, leaving Max behind by himself.

Once she catches up with Jenny, she puts an arm around her shoulder from behind, startling her. As Jenny turned to see who had 'caught' her she saw that it was Elizabeth. "Lizzy, how come you are here. Didn't you go ahead?" Elizabeth grinned and explained, "I had to go to the bathroom when I saw you walking here. Let's go back together. Jason must be anxiously waiting." She said jokingly. With that both friends went to the cafeteria laughingly, leaving all the messiness from moments before behind. It seemed that Nick had given Jason a good excuse for their absence as he asked no questions when they finally arrived. They each took their spot next to their guys and enjoyed whatever was left of the lunch break. When break time was over Elizabeth pulled Jason aside. "Jason do you have a minute. We should talk."

Here is chapter nummer two! I hope you enjoy and the story will continue tomorrow as two more chapters will be released. For now I wish you all a good night and that you join me again tomorrow.
