Unwanted job

Jenny seemed perplexed as she heard Elizabeth's request, but complied regardless. "Well, I don't understand what you and Jason have against Max, but I promise to keep an eye out for anything strange, okay?" With that Elizabeth left and as she passed by Max, she gave him another glare. But he returned her glare with a big smile and a wave, while he leaned against the doorpost. Seemingly unimpressed. Elizabeth hadn't been the only one glaring at Max, Nick who was waiting for Elizabeth had been glaring at him as well. Though he wanted to give him a piece of his mind, he didn't want to cause any extra trouble for Jason. So, if Jason could wait patiently, so should he. After Elizabeth walked out of the classroom, Jenny left with Max to the table where Madeline had already been waiting.

After all the classes were done, Jenny had to finish up the class representatives work that she hadn't been able to do in the morning. She was sitting in their classroom together with max, where they were working together to get the job done as soon as possible. Jenny had just finished her entry in the log when she noticed the time. She still had to go to work and she hadn't kept watch at the time. So, now she had to rush for the second time today. "Shoot! I have to go Max. I am going to be late at work. Can you clean up by yourself? In return you don't have to come tomorrow morning." Jenny pleaded with prayer hands. "Of course! Don't worry about me and get going." Jenny grabbed her stuff in a hurry and ran out the door.

Jason had been waiting for her to finish up as he didn't plan on leaving Jenny behind alone with Max. Though he couldn't be in the classroom with her, all the classrooms and halls at Mountforth High had been equipped with a high class camera for security purposes. As Jason was behind the IT-company that the school had hired, he had all access to the security footage and used it to keep an eye on them while staying at a safe distance, which was the classroom across the hall. When he saw her leave, he packed up his stuff as well and walked out the door shortly after her. Unnoticed by her and Max himself.

Luckily, the car that came to pick Jenny up was already waiting by the entrance. So, the moment she ran out the front entrance of the school, Jenny jumped into the back seat and asked the driver to get going right away as she was already late. The driver, who still had her schedule from Jason, knew that she had indeed been late and started to wonder whether he had gotten himself a difficult client who would make him rush to each destination. Once they started moving, she asked the driver to put up the partition and she changed from her school uniform into her work clothes in the backseat.

At the nursing home the young doctor had already started worrying. She had been quite upset on Friday and he had even pushed her buttons on that day. Aside from that, he hadn't been exactly friendly to her on the days before then and the work at the nursing home was quite strenuous, which made it an unwanted job. Now they had finally found someone who was capable at it and even did things outside her job description and he might have scared her off. Though he continued his work, he kept looking at the entrance waiting for Jenny to walk through the doors and kept checking his phone every few seconds to see if she had sent him a message or had tried to call him. He even asked some of the nurses to call him, to make sure he had reception. Just fifteen minutes later, Jenny ran in and said, while trying to catch her breath, "Sorry I am late. School took longer than I thought."

Even though the doctor was supposed to be angry that she was late without letting anyone know, he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. With a suppressed smile he grumbled, "Well its about time. Grab your stuff and let's go. We are already late for rounds." Before he walked away, onto the first resident on their list. Jenny smiled and grabbed her clipboard and cart. When the rounds were done and they were sitting in the office, where the doctor was preparing for his rounds of tomorrow and Jenny was updating the patient charts, she said, "I guess since I didn't quit and next Monday has arrived, it means I have won our bet. So, I take it that you are going to be a bit more honest and friendly towards me from now on?"

Without looking up from his computer screen he replied, "A bet is a bet. So, I suppose I can start treating you like I treat the others. At least that is if you think that you deserve it, when you were late on your second week." Jenny chuckled behind her closed hand. "Yes, I do. I stayed half an hour later on my first day as well, so that evens it out my tardiness of today. If you can add in an occasional smile instead of a grumble or growl, I am willing to stay later today as well to finish up if necessary." The doctor nodded his head, but still remained focused on his screen. "That sounds like a good trade off. At least you know how to compensate properly. Every minute late, should be compensated by twice the overtime." Jenny shook her head as she laughed silently and continued her work.

Here we are with today's chapters. The seconds to Max's demise are counting down and the resolve is coming closer. The waiting might be hard, but is coming to an end soon.
