Unexpected help

When Jason came home later that night, Jenny had long fallen asleep. It was past midnight and Jason found Jenny lying in bed with her regular clothes under the covers and with the tv still on. The remote was lying by her side and she was still holding onto her phone tightly. Jason chuckled, before he tried to wake Jenny up gently. He was feeling a surge of energy from seeing this image and by seeing her like this he too felt like talking with her for a moment before he too would go to bed. He started with a soft kiss on her lips as he unfastens his tie. After that he brushed her hair out of her face and rubbed the side of her face as he called out to her. When she started grumbling he said, "Wake up sleepyhead. You were the one who told me to wake you up when I came home. Besides, you didn't even put your pyjamas on. How can you sleep like that?" When Jenny registered that Jason had come home, she immediately opened her eyes. She had been in a half asleep state earlier, not noticing anything strange about Jason's actions. And nothing was strange about his actions. It was the time of day that it was taking place on that made it strange or out of the ordinary.

As she sat up in bed and rubbed the remaining sleep out of her eyes she responded to Jason in a slightly raspy voice. "Welcome back Jace. Are you finally done with work? What time is it now?" As she asked that second question, she unlocked the phone that was in her hand and looked at the time on the display. It was almost two in the morning. Had he continued working from eight in the morning till now? She turned her face back to Jason who was getting ready for bed and she felt a bit guilty seeing his tired face. Though she was helping him in any way that she could, she couldn't actually do his work for him. That part of the burden was something she couldn't share with him. When he dropped himself on the bed, placing his face on her legs, Jenny started to run her fingers through his hair and placed her other hand on the space between his shoulder blades.

Jason allowed himself to be comforted like this for a bit. Feeling all the frustration, tiredness and stress of the day fading away with each rhythmic pat on his back and each gentle run through his hair. Jason told her about his day and how the rest of his week would look. Suggesting that it might be better for Jenny to stay with her friend and family in the house in the city but Jenny rejected that plan as soon as it came out of his mouth. "And leave you to deal with all of the hardship on your own? Don't think so. I can't do much for you but what I can do is wait for you and listen to you talk about your day. Help you unwind a bit before everything starts all over the next day. You are my number one priority at the moment." Though Jason meant what he had said, he was happy that Jenny decided to stay by his side. This way he could at least hold her to sleep at night and let go of the troubles he had faced during the day. Otherwise these days would become even harder and though he could handle it, it was nice to know that he didn't have to.

Suddenly Jason lifted his head and said, "That reminds me. There was something that I forgot to tell you. I meant to say it to you if I found you back when you were in hiding but with the way things went after your return, it completely slipped my mind." Jenny was curious to what could be important enough from back then that would make Jason mention it now, so she was all ears as she waited for Jason to tell her about it. "Well, since you are always so eager to help and you felt so bad about me losing that investor back then. I thought I should tell you about how I actually benefited a lot from something that I gained through you. Because that investor that I lost was replaced by some unexpected help from none other than James's father's company. Not only did he replace the funding I lost, I even gained a huge additional investment after it was revealed that it was my company. Helping me expand that much faster and make my place as the future vice president of Westwood International certain. As from that point there was simply no chance for the remaining competition to catch up with me. Without you, I would never have gained that investment and I might still have been fighting for this position even till now."

Jenny's eyes grew wide and she covered her mouth from shock. "James as in little James...?" Jason nodded with a big smile on his face. Happy to see how happy it appeared to have made Jenny and happy to finally be able to share this piece of news with her. Jenny's expression had changed from shock to a happy, relief. Knowing now that she hadn't been just a burden to Jason regarding his business. Hearing she had actually been of help to him indirectly in his time of need. These words lifted a burden from her shoulders she didn't realize she was still carrying. Her eyes turning red from the tears she was fighting to hold back and her lip quivering for the same reason. "But...but how?"

Luckily the eyedrops wore off in time and I was able to finish today's chapter. I am even working on another chapter that I might release later today :D I hope you enjoy and hopefully till later tonight :)
