Too good to be true

When her shift had finally ended, Jenny let out a deep sigh as she prepared herself to go home. She had dragged this moment out for as long as she could, but with her current mood no one wanted her around longer than was necessary to finish her tasks. She grabbed her coat and purse and went to the car that was parked outside, waiting for her to finish work and bring her home. Though she could easily take a buss home, Jason didn't want her walking to the buss stop on her own in the dark. The days were growing shorter and by the time she was done with her work, the sun had already set and the sky was dark. Considering how well he had handled her working, she hadn't made much of a fuss about this. He was only taking her safety in consideration and when she looked into it, she found out that the buss ride was forty minutes longer than a direct ride back home. Which would mean that taking the bus would make her evenings that much shorter. So, she accepted the suggestion of a driver coming to pick her up with a hint of gratitude. But right now it served as a reminder of him and made her fill with mixed feelings of remembering the good times and having to face the bad.

She was angry that he was trying to force her hand by attacking Max and his father, in hopes of making him stay away of his own accord. Only because she had refused to stay away from him. She disliked being controlled greatly and she was even more upset that he did this when she had just decided to let the matters go and make up with him. But making up without actually settling matters seemed too good to be true for a reason, because it was. Not even a week later, that decision came back and bit her in the ass. Now not only was their fight back, bigger than ever, but Max and his father had gotten hurt in the process. Though Jason had asked her to listen to his side of the story before making up her mind, she doubted whether there was anything he could say that could make up for what he had done.

When she came home, she too didn't have dinner and instead went straight upstairs after greeting Garry. When she walked into their room, she saw Jason sitting by the window in the dark. His face looked grim and he seemed more affected by the situation than she thought he would be. She turned on the lights and Jason turned to face her. Despite the big elephant in the room, Jason started with small talk. "Finally home?" "Did work run late again?" Jenny replied with a simple "uhn" and didn't really look him in the eyes as she placed down her stuff and changed her clothes. Finally Jason changed to open ended questions instead, hoping to get something more out of her. "How was work?"

Jenny had finished changing into some comfortable clothes and had tied her hair up, almost as if she was preparing for a fight or the gym, instead of a talk at home. She sat down at the sofa across from the windowsill where Jason had been sitting and pulled up her legs before wrapping her arms around them. With a touch of hostility Jenny answered as her soft brown eyes clashed with his piercing blue ones. "Work was fine. Is that what you want to talk about or can we move along to what actually needs to be discussed? You said you wanted to tell me your side of the story before making up my mind, so go ahead."

Jason felt the sharpness of her words and her overflowing anger seemed to cut him like a knife. Nonetheless he didn't break eye contact and calmly told her the facts that he needed to be known. "Well, first of all I want you to know that I am sorry that things got this far and that you had to find out about his father's company like that. I need you to understand that I myself didn't attack his father's company. I had asked someone look into him when we weren't on speaking terms and they discovered that his father had been involved with illegal trading. Since Westwood International does business with them, being caught up in a scandal like this if it were to come out, would damage us as well. I was going back and forth on what to do with the information, because I didn't want to jeopardize our truce and make you think that I was hurting his father's business for personal reasons, but doing nothing didn't feel right either."

Again Jenny let her feelings be known by mumbling just loud enough, "Of course it didn't". But Jason didn't allow her to affect him and continued. "So, I passed the information along to my father. I figured he is an impartial party in all of this and has nothing to gain by damaging an affiliated company for no reason. So, whatever he does, would be purely business and have nothing to do with my personal problems with that guy. Though I must admit that I am not exactly sad of him getting in trouble, be it directly or indirectly, but I should not face the blame for this." Jenny scoffed and looked away, but didn't say anything this time around so Jason continued with his explanation. But with each remark from Jenny, his hope of his explanation being enough to solve their problem became less and less.

And here is chapter number three~! I hope you all enjoy and that I will see you all for the double release tomorrow :)
