To wake someone

When the morning arrived and the majority of the people that resided in the Westwood mansion were getting ready for a late breakfast, the only people that didn't seem to want to join the meal were the three brothers, who were still fast asleep. They couldn't be woken by anything as their exhaustion overpowered their desire to eat. Not even their adorable little nephew, who had just been tasked by his mother to see if they were awake and get them to join the others for breakfast, was able to get the job done. Charlie had been with Jenny in the dining room, while Jason tried to get some work done before breakfast. There their kind hearted son was trying to assist his mother into setting the table, something he didn't yet possess the fine motoric skills for, before she had thought of the perfect way to let him help in a way that might be more entertaining for him. As at the moment all he could do was hand her the things she needed, while she put them in place.

Once he had received his mission, he didn't know how fast to get started. He was excitedly using his chubby little legs to take him from the dining room, to where he had said last night's farewell to his three uncles. His walking had significantly improved and had become more easy to do with each month that passed. Time had allowed his legs to become stronger and his sense of balance to improve, though he still preferred being carried by his parents and they didn't mind obliging to that request at all. Despite it becoming something harder to do for longer periods of time, mainly for his all time favourite, Jenny. This was of course because he was growing fast, apparently determined to catch up to his father in height as well as personality.

Once Charlie had passed the long halls and was standing beside their beds, he did what he usually did in order to wake someone up and started patting their backs and faces. Doing so just as gently as he would usually pat the faces of his mother and father in the morning if one of them was still asleep by the time he was allowed to join them in their bed. But after being unsuccessful after patting them and pulling the blankets for several minutes, getting no more than a grunt or a closed-eyed swiping away movement as if he were a mosquito or fly instead of the little man that he was, he sat on the floor.

He had ended up their after evading the swiping movement from one of his uncles, causing him to lose his balance and land on his butt. Luckily he had a layered cushion to soften his blow. Though he no longer really needed diapers as he could let people know when he had to go to the bathroom, Jenny and Jason preferred to keep him in diapers for a bit longer to prevent any accidents if no one was around to help him undress. As that required the same fine motoric skills he did not yet possess.

He continued to sit there for a brief moment as he was contemplating his next move while he stared at their sleeping faces. Weighing each option in his mind. At almost one years of age, he had a full set of teeth and one of his ideas included using those on some of the exposed skin of his uncles. But seeing what they did when he was gently patting them, he was afraid to find out what kind of reaction he would receive if he bit them. Plus, he knew that his mother did not approve of him biting others. So, that was another thing holding him back. He had thought about pulling their blankets off but the little tugging he did showed him that they were holding onto their blankets tightly and his weight was no competition for theirs when it came to the laws of gravity. So, after much back and forth, he flipped himself over to get back on his feet and hobbled on back to Jenny.

When Jenny saw her son return, she had just finished setting the table and was getting ready to wait for the others to arrive. She lifted the boy, who was running towards her with all his might, up and placed a kiss on his reddened cheeks as she held him in her arms. "Hello my darling boy. Have you returned already?" Charlie nodded his head in response to Jenny's rhetoric question as he looked Jenny in her eyes with his big baby blues. "Were your uncles awake?" She asked in the same sweet, honey dripped voice. Charlie shook his head no. Jenny was surprised to find out their brothers were still asleep. As she had assumed that they had gone to bed no later than they had and had expected them to just be goofing around in bed as they were almost a full ten hours further from when they had wished each other good night. So, with a shocked expression she asked, "Were you able to wake them up?" But again the chubby, little man in her arms shook his head no. "Even with your patting them in the face?" Jenny watched her son's head nod yes.

After that he started tugging her shirt and pointed in the direction he had come from in order to tell her to go back to his uncle's room with him. With a hint of frustration and a soft sigh she said, "Though I still really hope to hear you expressing your thoughts in words one of these days, and I have certainly not given up on that my sweet child, for now you have done well. So, let's go and not let your efforts be in vain as we wake those incorrigible uncles of yours up. Those three are pushing their luck if they think they can ignore my beautiful boy when he goes through such effort to wake them up and get them to have breakfast." As she placed another kiss on his cheeks she started walking to her brother's room as she said, "Don't worry honey, mommy will teach them the price of not answering to your loving wake up calls."
