Their son's first name

Nick walked over and looked at Elizabeth's smile as she was holding the hand of their gently swaddled baby boy. As he walked in, Elizabeth's mother, who had been in the delivery room with her during the birth, walked out to give them some privacy. Squeezing Nick's shoulder gently when she passed by. When Nick finally reached the bed, which seemed like it took an eternity, he placed a kiss on the temple of Elizabeth's head after he peeked a glance at their new-born son. He whispered "Thank you. You have done a great job here. He looks perfect." Then he gently rubbed over his son's forehead that had been mostly covered by the blue beany provided by the hospital. "Hello Sam, it's me, your father. Nice to finally meet you. Sorry I couldn't be here with you as you and your mommy were working hard to make your way out but I promise to do better from now on."

After Elizabeth and the baby had all the necessary check-ups and clean-ups, the others were invited in groups of two to come look at their little bundle of joy as it was resting peacefully in the arms of his mother. First up were of course the grandparents, who had been with Elizabeth this entire time and the two that had rushed to get here in time for this moment. After they had each greeted their newly arrived grandson, the friends took turns to take a look. The name had been kept a secret till the day of the birth and was being revealed to all of them, two people at a time. They had decided to call their son Samuel Maximilian Richards, Sam for short. The name was chosen based on family names from both of their families. Though there was a short debate on whether Maximilian should come first or Samuel, but with their bad experience with the name Max, they settled on Sam being their son's first name.

Soon the two hours in the delivery room were up and it was time for Elizabeth to be transferred to her post-delivery room. Finally feeling the weight of giving birth and pregnancy fall off her shoulders, the fatigue from the strenuous few hours she had just passed was being registered by her body. Making her come over by a strong urge to take a nap the moment she had been tucked into the new bed with fresh sheets. Baby Sam was placed in a small bed-like construction next to her. So, she could feel the presence of her baby at any moment. As both mother and child slept, Jason and the others took their leave to give the new parents a moment to themselves. Only Elizabeth's mother remained at the hospital with Nick, while the remaining grandparents prepared at Nick and Elizabeth's home for when the baby would be brought back in a day or two.

On their way back home, Jenny and Jason were a bit silenced by today's events. Jason dropped Jenny off at the house before returning to the office to finish the work he had dropped when he had received Jenny's call. They only revisited the topic when Jason came home just in time for bed. They were in their bed, Jason was quietly reading a book after taking a shower, while Jenny was staring off into space while she applied her routine skincare. Suddenly she said, "It's amazing isn't it. In just a few short weeks, that is going to be you and me." Turning to the side towards Jason she asked, "Can you imagine it?"

Jason put the book he had just picked up, back on his nightstand as he turned his attention towards Jenny. "Well, I must admit that today made a lot of different impressions on me and I haven't yet been able to process it all into something that will be of use to me. I at least know that I don't want to have any of our parents being out of the country from at least two weeks till the due date until after the baby is born. The stress Nick was having over these things is not worth it and I doubt any of them would want to miss a moment like that. It being the first grandchild for both of them and all." Then he grabbed Jenny's hand tightly as he said, "And I most certainly want to be in the delivery room with you when you give birth. Pacing around like that without knowing how you or our son is doing, is not something I am willing to go through. That added to his stress and worries more than the sight of blood could have."

Jenny chuckled as she let Jason kiss the back of her hand and said, "Well, those are two big lessons. I think that is already plenty to take away from this. If being in the room is what you want, I certainly won't keep you away but you have to promise me that you will be by my side the entire time. No standing behind the doctor. I can't have you watch that scene. I have been 'blessed' to have had teachers who thought that a birthing video was just what a young girl needs as her body is going through puberty. Those images were so shocking and brutal, that they have been burned onto my retina for all eternity. It might be a miracle but it isn't a very pretty sight to see. So, let's leave those images for the physician who sees those things at least on a weekly basis and who I won't have to see after my discharge from the hospital. As for Nick being locked out, Elizabeth told me that was more for her sake than his. As she didn't want to have to worry about him while she was pushing out a seven pound human out of her body. Something which I can't blame her for." Jenny added with another chuckle.
