Their final strategy

The family of four arrived at the party in a little over an hour. After resigning from the business world, Jason's grandfather wanted to live close to nature making him automatically live relatively far away from Jason and his parents. The car ride over was a cold one as neither Jenny nor Jason were very good company. No matter what topic of conversation Stephen and Susan painstakingly brought up, it ended in silence with only the two of them participating and Jason and Jenny bringing no more than a nod, a sound or a forced smile to the table. Plus, when it came to Jason's mood, it seemed to be something tangible and able to affect the atmosphere and temperature around him.

Glad to have finally reached their destination and being among other people, neither of them wasted any time to get out of the car. Not even to wait for them to get off the vehicle as well. Being the last to arrive, as Susan and Stephen lived the furthest from the mansion where his grandfather now lived, they didn't have to wait for the guest of honour to arrive and could instead walk straight up to him to present their gift. They had prepared one separate from Jason and Jenny as they wanted Jenny and Jason to receive the praise for their gift without them stealing some of the thunder. They were really pleased with the gift Jenny had found and wanted to allow Jenny to make her own impression, a good impression for the man of the hour.

Before Jenny and Jason got out of the car with their gift in hand, they discussed their final strategy. Jason was the first to speak about it. "So, now that we have agreed on a truce, we should discuss what that entails and till when this truce will last." Jenny thought for a moment before saying, "I guess it will last till tomorrow morning. As to what it entails... I have put in too much effort for tonight to let it be ruined by something we have already fought too much about. Tonight I just want to enjoy myself and not think about the mess waiting for us back home. So, for tonight I will smile, laugh and be at your side like I would be at any other party, almost as if our fight never happened. And now we should get going before the party finishes without us ever attending, regarding our truce useless."

After Jenny said that Jason nodded and got out of the car before helping Jenny get off as well. As he watched Jenny get out of the parked car he was finally able to get a proper look of the woman who would be his future wive and couldn't help but think she looked stunning once more. For tonight she had chosen a beautiful midnight blue dress. It was a long dress and had a neckline that required no necklace. Instead she had paired the dress off with a diamond studded tennis bracelet and the engagement ring that would be her future wedding ring and was the ring that had belonged to Jason's great grandmother. Though it was quite over the top for a normal evening out, but considering the identity of the they were celebrating she figured nothing was too over the top for tonight. Her simple, yet elegant look was perfect for tonight's occasion and Jason took her hand with pride and placed it on his arm and in the other he held their carefully considered gift. With Jenny's hand tucked into the crease of Jason's elbow, they entered the grand mansion before them. Carefully ascending each step to prevent Jenny from missing a step or tripping on her long dress.

When they walked in many eyes turned to them as for some it was the first time meeting the rumoured fiance of Jason Westwood. Jason payed them no mind and didn't even spare them a glance as he saw his grandfather at the far back of the room, talking to his parents. He was glad that they had missed his grandfather's entrance as this meant he could skip the fake pleasantries with the other members of his family. Ignoring all those who wanted to talk to and meet Jenny, Jason took her straight to the man HE wanted her to meet. Jenny could feel her heart thumping in her throat as the moment she had been looking forward to, but at the same time dreaded had come. With clammy hands, a cold sweat covering her body and armed with a bright smile, she let Jason pull her across the room and towards the intimidating man in the distance. Once they were just a few steps away from him, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, making the time feel as if it were standing still and giving her the chance to calm her nerves. By the time she was standing before him all that was left was the bright smile she had started with.

Jason greeted his grandfather and congratulated him on his birthday. After delivering his well wishes for the man who played a big role into forming the man he was today, he placed his hand on Jenny's back as he gave her a soft push forward and introduced her. "Grandfather, this is someone I would like you to meet. This is ..." but before he could finish his words, his grandfather interrupted him.
