The sound of his heartbeat

The sports festival was a huge success and Jenny could finally relax. Though she was exhausted and felt her eyes drooping the moment she sat in the car, she fought hard to keep her eyes open. She was sitting in the seat next to Jason and her head was resting against his shoulder, but despite her tiredness she didn't want to sleep yet. She had some catching up to do in terms of talking with Jason and spending time with him and she planned on starting right away. So, while rejecting all Jason's good intentions in telling her to sleep, Jenny insisted on staying awake. Even after Jason caught her with her eyes closed, Jenny claimed that she wasn't that tired and was just resting her eyes. Seeing that she was determined to keep talking, Jason gave up and indulged her as she mumbled her questions while fighting her sleep. As the car was moving forward, bringing them closer and closer to their home where Jenny falling asleep was certain, the two of them talked about the events that had taken place as well as Jason's offer to his fellow students.

Half asleep Jenny asked, "How was it? Did I do an okay job for my first event here?" While stroking the back of the hand he was holding with his thumb Jason said, "You did better than okay. You have done really well Jen. I'm glad that I have you back now, because if those preparation lasted any longer I would have lost it, but it was clear that you guys have put your all into this event." Jenny let out a soft laughter as her eyes remained shut. "Were you able to enjoy yourself? At least a little? Despite all your worrying about me." Jason looked out of the window as he reminisced about what had taken place and replied, "Mm, especially the scavenger hunt was a lot of fun. Thanks for dragging me along. I am glad I was able to participate in that one more time before I graduate."

A smile appeared on Jenny's face as she too thought about the scavenger hunt. "It sure was. I am glad I could experience that. Organizing something like this is a lot of fun even if it is hard work, but participating is even better. So, I am glad that they at least left one event that everyone could enjoy, including the class representatives." After a moment of silence Jenny continued, "Speaking of things that everyone can enjoy, what you did back there was really wonderful. I know I already said something about it, but I want you to know I really meant it. Not many people would do that, regardless of if they have the money for it or not."

Jason made an affirming sound as he continued to look out of the window. "Thanks and I am glad you saw the rewards of your hard work and that you were able to have some fun as well. And now my dear, your time to go to sleep has finally come, because we have arrived at home." It had been quite some time since Jenny had behaved clingy and spoiled, but today was a day where she needed it. So, ignoring any possible tiredness that Jason might have from participating in all those events, Jenny held out her arms and waited for Jason to carry her inside. Jason did not mind at all and chuckled as he saw that Jenny had apparently finally given in to her body's demands. He waited for the car to come to a stop and for the driver to open the door. He stepped out, unbuckled her seat belt, and lifted Jenny up from her seat in one fell swoop. The driver entering the premises would alert the staff inside, so Garry had already been on the lookout. When he heard the car arrive at the house, he already opened the door to let the two of them in. When he saw that Jenny was in Jason's arms, he seemed a bit worried. So, Jason said, "Don't worry, she is just tired."

Garry nodded and turned to the other staff members behind him. to let them know to skip the formal greeting they normally did and resume their tasks before turning in for the night. Though there were less staff members at this time of night, there were always a few that would be here that would stay until they were dismissed for the day and Garry lived in the pool house so he was always last to leave. After letting Jason and Jenny in and closing the door behind them, he wished them a good night and turned away himself as well. Jason returned his greeting before heading to their room. By the time he had carried Jenny up the stairs, she had fallen asleep in his arms. She had become so accustomed to sleeping in Jason's arms or on his chest, that when she was in that environment with her level of tiredness, her body no longer cared or was able to distinguish if she was lying in a bed or not. By now the sound of his heartbeat had become enough for her to fall asleep.

Jason was surprised she had lasted as long as she had and gestured for one of the maids that was walking in the first floor hall to open their bedroom door. She opened the door and walked in to turn down the bed, after which he dismissed her for the night. He carried Jenny over and gently placed her down, before covering her with the sheets. Normally he would want her to change her clothes so she would be more comfortable, but if it was comfortable enough for her to fall asleep on the roof, it would be comfortable enough for tonight. He too was tired and went inside the bathroom to get ready for bed. Having run around all day, he couldn't just get into bed. So, after a quick shower he could finally snuggle up to Jenny and he too drifted off quickly, resting up for another day.
