The ring bearer

One of the few big difference between being a med student with internships and a regular student was that your breaks weren't aligned with the other students. So, while her fellow students at the University she attended were enjoying their Christmas holidays, Jenny was hard at work at a teaching hospital in the district. While they were counting down till midnight to sound in the new year, she was working a night shift at the emergency department. Her summer break had been no different. While all their friends were celebrating no longer being a student, she and Harry were still putting in their forty hours per week at the internal medicine ward. But now that she had put in the time, she would be able to enjoy the benefits as well. Because while everyone else would have to start classes again in the first week of September, she and Harry would still be off for another three weeks.

They could go on a vacation outside of the busy season. Enjoy the fun activities in England without all the crowds of the otherwise working people. Or just spend them in the comfort of their own homes. Jenny for one had planned to invest these three weeks fully in Jason and she knew that Harry would be spending them mostly at home to prepare for the arrival of his daughter and to spend some extra time with Julia before most of their time would be consumed by taking care of their first borne. Little Alice Maria was scheduled in the first week of October. Meaning that Julia was already heavily pregnant at this point and if they wanted to have some time alone, now would be the time. So, as soon as the summer break started, the two of them set off for a few weeks at a retreat to rest up and enjoy some couple time before they would have to do without for quite some time. They would be coming back next week and would spend the remaining days at home so as to not be surprised by an early birth while they were in an unfamiliar environment.

In the months leading up to this final stage of pregnancy Harry had learned to accept what was coming his way and had begun to stop being as worried as he had been during the first two stages. From the moment the news reached his ears Harry became quite nervous on the inside but he didn't show it on the outside. Wanting to be strong for Julia, while she was doing the real hard work. Only showing his concerns when the friends had gathered together for a guys night. Making use of his friends having gone through all of this once or in some cases twice before. Under the joy of some laughs and drinks, they would help ease his worries before they would build up again in the time between then and the next night they had planned to meet up.

Jason would let Jenny in on the worries their mutual friend was facing and she in turn would hint Julia on the emotions that were roaming inside the mind of her husband and on his attempts to keeping them silent for her sake. Helping them face their troubles as a couple, without them having to go through the actual confrontations with each other. Now, with just weeks remaining till their daughter would make her entrance into their lives, his outside had started to match how he was feeling on the inside. Though he had his occasional moments of worry, they were far less frequent than before and far less severe. Moments Julia could spot early on and could silence before they had turned into real worries.

But before Jenny could spend any more time thinking about their friends back at home, Jason pulled her back to reality. "It's time for the ceremony. We should get ready." Jenny blinked and looked around, seeing that everyone was indeed getting in position to start the wedding ceremony. Her brother had a Dutch girlfriend and so they too would be doing both ceremonies. Only in their case, they would finish up the ceremony belonging to her brother's side of the culture before the party would start. Meaning she wouldn't be wearing a green dress and a white dress but just the white dress. By the time they would be walking down this isle, they would actually already be husband and wife. But Jenny was convinced that this ceremony would be the best ceremony. However this conviction was based on a big partiality because her darling Charlie would be involved in this ceremony as he was chosen as the ring bearer!

He was almost two years now and as smart as ever. He was walking and running like any other child and was by far the cutest of the candidates that were eligible for the job, though this review as well was coloured by some partiality from the judges. However, this partiality didn't stop him from getting picked. So, in his cute suit with a bowtie in the theme colour, he was allowed to join his mother and father down the isle, who had been picked as bridesmaid and groomsman. Though Charlie was the youngest of all the children involved in the ceremony and was actually too young to be entrusted to such a task, he wasn't like other children and his mental age was well passed the advised age of four to eight. By allowing Jenny and Jason to be the last of the bridal party to walk down the isle and have Charlie walk out right behind them, they expected no trouble to arise and imagined it would only create a perfect frame to end the line of people before the bride and her father would walk in and the 'I Do's' could start.
