The clear victor

Jason had been watching the fields from where he had been sitting and saw that Jenny wasn't needed till so far. There had been only one person who seemed to be asking about her and searching for her. The person searching for Jenny was the guy he couldn't get himself to trust, Max. He had no intention of letting Jenny know that he had been searching for her and especially no intention to wake her for it. So, he had watched him go from person to person assumingly asking them if they knew where Jenny was and saw him go from booth to booth to search for her. He had even heard him come up the roof, at which moment he was happy that he had decided to let Jenny up on this part of the roof for her nap instead of at their usual spot.

While the sports festival was still full in session, the promised hour had passed and it was time to wake Jenny up. He looked down at the person sleeping peacefully by his side. Her head resting on his lap while he was gently stroking her hair every now and then. Now that Jason was satisfied that Jenny had rested up enough to get through the rest of the day he patted her on her arm while calling out her name. "Jenny...Jen. Wake up. The hour has passed. It is time for us to go back. It's almost time for the basketball tournament." Jenny stretched her arms as she looked up at Jason with a soft and well rested smile. As she got herself to sit up straight she said, "I'm up. Thanks for making me take that nap. I really needed that." Jason stroked her head once more and replied, "You are very welcome. I may not understand a lot of people, but I can read you like an open book." With a chuckle he added, "At least when it comes to most things." Jenny chuckled at this remark and pushed him playfully to make him lose his balance before getting up to her feat and initiating her escape to safety. Jason made a reach for one of her legs, but missed her by a hair's distance. Earning him a half frightened shriek from Jenny.

With her nap out of the way they went downstairs for a quick lunch and the start of the basketball tournament, which began at the start of the second half of the day. There were three sports in the second half of the day, soccer, basketball and volleyball. Guys and girls from each class were allowed to enter each of these events as a group. Traditionally the guys would enter the basketball competition and the girls would enter the volleyball competition. Soccer would be played with the class as a whole. But classes could decide the participants for each of these events themselves. The points from these competitions would be added to the whole and would then determine the winner. This was usually the make or break portion of the day as points could be won with each match. So, even if you hadn't done well during the first half of the day, you could have a comeback during the second part. While Jason was busy competing, Jenny was making up for the time she had skipped out by clearing up the props and items used during the morning events, because they field would be needed for the soccer competition.

After the first two matches it was clear that Jason's team would be winning the basketball tournament and the girls from the class that had won the relay race would win the volleyball tournament. They were head to head, leaving the winner to be determined at the soccer matches. After finishing up the cleaning Jenny took her place at the sidelines, while she waited for Jason to enter the field. After sitting down on the blanket she laid down on the grass, she heard her name from behind. When she turned around she saw that it was Max, who had been trying to find her since she went up to have a nap. He sat down next to her and said, "Hey stranger, where have you been. I have been looking for you all over." Jenny placed her finger in front of her lips as she secretively said, "I needed a nap after my date last night. Keep my secret will you." and gave Max a wink. It was this behavior that Max considered flirting, while Jenny was simply seeing it as joking with a classmate.

When Jason came onto the field and saw the two of them sharing a blanket and laughing with each other, he felt a sense of anger coming up in him. But he had made a promise to Jenny and he was going to keep it. So, instead of focusing on them, he directed his anger onto the game and used it as his motivator to end the games as quickly as possible. Contrary to normal soccer matches, these matches only lasted thirty minutes each or until one of the teams managed to score five goals. Almost single-handedly Jason passed by the players of the opposite team and scored goal after goal. The players seemed to all make way to allow him to score. Who could blame them. Who would want to stand between an angered Jason and his goal. In just one hour and twenty minutes, all the matches had been played, instead of the planned two and a half hours, and the clear victor was Jason and his class. They carried him up on their shoulders when they accepted the first place cup and chanted his name as they had declared him their MVP. Jenny had joined the crowd to cheer for him and with that Jason's goal had been accomplished. All that was left was the scavenger hunt and the bonfire.

While the students of Jason's class were looking forward to the boat party that was awaiting them. the students from the other class that had been tied with their class up until the soccer competition seemed dejected. They had been looking forward to that party and victory had been within their reach, which made the loss sting more than if they had no chance at winning in the first place. This class had almost all of the 'poor' students of their year and they would never be able to attend a party such as this. So, now that the school had offered them the chance at such an experience they had been very motivated to win. Until their chance was taken from them by Jason's one man storm. Jason saw their disappointed expressions from his high seat and started to feel a bit guilty. He had always let the sport festival be an event where the other students could play fairly against him without the fear for repercussions. This year he had failed at that and he needed to fix the mess he had created. As he was sitting on the shoulders of his classmates he cleared his throat and started speaking. "Everyone I have an announcement to make..."
