Stories about their wives

Jason realized that he had been quite rude to their guest and that he had been behaving quite strangely for a person who didn't realize what had been going down between him and Jenny. He cleared his throat before he explained, "Sorry, I wasn't laughing at you. Your ideas sound very interesting. I was just having a little moment with my wife just before and she is a horrible winker. So, when she just winked at me from across the table she caught me off guard and now I keep imagining her two-eyed wink. Causing me to laugh subconsciously."

The man, who was a few years older than Stephen and had been doing business with Westwood International since Stephen just took over the reigns, making him more of an acquaintance or friend than just a business partner. Lucky for Jason the man was reminded of when he and his wife were newlyweds and he started laughing as well. "Don't worry about it son. We have all been there at one point. Enjoy it to the fullest. My wife had her own struggles back when we were newlyweds. Thinking back on those times can cause me to laugh like an idiot even now, many years later. She used to be so nervous. Around me, around my family, at events. No matter what she was wearing, she would always have this gift of getting her hair caught up in something. If it wasn't the wristband of her watch, it would be her bracelet, a button of her sleeve, her ring. You name it and I would have a matching story. So, no matter where we were, if I would leave her side for a moment and look over at her just minutes later, there she would be. Struggling to set herself free while trying to not gain too much attention."

As the older man told his story about his wife, Jason started laughing along with him. Envisioning all that the man was saying, as if playing a movie of the scene in his head, as if he himself had been present to witness it all in person. Seeing how the man responded to his explanation, Jason was relieved. He was happy that this had occurred during an event with friends of the family, instead of at one of their business parties. They would have been a lot less understanding he assumed. Aside from feeling relief, the man's stories reminded him of the beginning of his relationship with Jenny. Though there were no buttons involved in their story, there was a strong case of nervousness present. One that had given him many amusing moments with Jenny.

These days, she had improved a lot and not much would get her to be truly embarrassed. She would feel a bit shy from time to time, but those reactions from the beginning were long gone. Every now and then he would miss those reactions and the little devil inside him would tell him to tease her till he got one of those bashful, claws fully drawn, reactions. However, he would hold himself back just in time when he was reminded of all the new cute sides he had gotten in return for her losing that side of her. Such as her persistence to cover herself up completely after they had been intimate. No matter how many times he would tell her that there was nothing left for him to see, that he had seen all that there was to see during the act itself, she would insist on putting her sleep dress back on or wrap the sheets around herself till she looked more like a ghost than a person.

As he continued to chat with the man and they exchanged stories about their wives, dinner made place for dessert. One where Stephen had outdone himself with an ice cake. Though the weather outside was freezing, inside it was nice and warm. To honour the Christmas spirit, Stephen had created a snowman cake that had been frosted with white chocolate and coconut shavings. Inside there were alternate layers of vanilla cake, chocolate cake and two different flavours of ice cream. Creating a colourful spectacle when the cake was being cut. When Jenny took a bite of the cake that appeared to be to the liking of all the guests, who were showering Stephen with compliments after each bite, she knew immediately who Jason took after when it came to his talent for making desserts.

Though in a way she felt that life was a bit unfair because these two men seemed to be good at everything they tried and seemed to make everything look so effortless. And as if talent wasn't enough, they had to look amazing while doing it as well. Her father-in-law not lacking in the looks department either and looking dashing while calmly eating his own creation. But she would balance those feelings out with the thought that she was at least able to benefit from their talents. Telling herself that she should be glad that she wasn't their opponent in anyway. That short time during high school was enough to make her quit trying to beat Jason. She couldn't imagine how frustrated those that had to compete with these two for years would feel. Feeling a bit sorry for those that were up against them now and in the future.
