Speed safely

Having Jason's undivided attention and the background sounds slowly fading into nothing, Jenny started her part of the apology. "It seems that my pregnancy brain isn't only affecting my ability to remember menial details like where I have left my keys, but also my ability to think about dangers like you do and about the worries you might have. Now, I might think that I am fine going to a few stores on my own and picking up a few things, but I know that does not mean that I should be the one going if there are other people around who could do the job as well. I might not understand all your worries but that does not mean that I dismiss them without a second thought. I do consider them before I do something. I just forget to communicate it sometimes, causing you needless additional worry. For that and my stubbornness that tells me that I can do everything on my own, I apologize. So, don't walk with your back towards me and drop my hand as soon as you are done helping me. That hurts me more than you realize."

After his initial surprise at Jenny being able to say these words so easily and reach out to him in such a public and crowded place like an airport, Jason chuckled faintly over Jenny's words. He pulled her in for a hug and whispered another soft "I'm sorry.", before he used both hands to tilt her face and planted a quick kiss on her lips. As always he of course completely disregarded the crowd of people that were silently staring in their direction. Staring people had become a backdrop for almost all scenes of their lives outdoors, no matter what they were doing. So even Jenny had learned not to mind them as much either. They were both quite a sight to see but together they had a crowd pulling attraction. Forcing them to make peace with their spectators in life and learn to ignore their presence all together.

After the peck on the lips, wrapping up their quickly resolved spat-in-the-making, Jason grabbed Jenny's hand as he made another attempt at walking into the airport. This time by her side instead of a step in front of her. They had brought matters to a satisfying ending just in time, because when they arrived at the arrivals gate for Nick's parents' flight, they had just walked out along with the other passengers. With just a piece of hand luggage, as they had a home in the states with all their daily necessities, they were standing at the arrivals in less than twenty minutes after their flight had landed. They quickly spotted Jason and Jenny standing with the other friends and families of the passengers from the landed flights. Once the fleeting greetings were exchanged, they hurried over to the car that was parked in a spot with a fifteen minute time limit. Once everyone was aboard the car, the parents started explaining why they had been arriving only now to begin with.

"Nick had told us that Lizzy was due next week and that it wasn't looking like the baby would be coming early. Just to be safe we had a flight already booked for today but since we had a few things to wrap up, we had decided on an evening flight. Only to receive a call from Nick earlier today that Lizzy's contractions had begun. So, we booked the first flight out and rushed to the airport. But with the traveling distance we have, there was no way for us to be here sooner. I am just glad we haven't missed anything yet. Let's hope you can get us there in time." Risking any potential speeding fines, Jason made his way to the fast lane and stepped on his gas pedal as he said, "I will certainly do my very best." Luckily for them, it wasn't a time of day with high traffic. Making the outer lane practically empty and allowing him to speed safely.

In half the time as the way over to the airport, the party of four made their way back to the hospital. Jason ran ahead of the group to press the elevator button and entrusted Jenny to show Nick's parents the way over to where he was waiting for them. When they were in sight, the elevator arrived and Jason kept the doors open till everyone had made their way over and had stepped inside. The moment the elevator doors opened up, they saw Nick getting called on by the doctor who had delivered his and Elizabeth's baby. Without being able to hear what was being said to him, they watched the doctor smile, shake his hand, say a few words and watched Nick step inside the delivery room. Making it clear to all of them that they had been just in time and that the delivery had gone well.

After confirming his identity the doctor had told Nick, "Congratulations, you have become the father of a 7 pounds and 4 ounces healthy baby boy. Both mother and son are doing fine. You may enter the delivery room now if you want. They should be finishing up with the cleaning just about now." With shaking hands Nick stepped in the delivery room after hearing the doctor's words. Though he had listened to his words with a distracted interest, as he wanted to get to Elizabeth and their son as soon as possible, he patiently waited for him to finish. His words, that reached him as if they had been delivered under water, couldn't be over fast enough before Nick rushed inside. There he found Elizabeth with a glow he had never seen before and in her arms was the smallest creature he had ever seen. Even though he had seen Henry on the day he was born, experiencing it with your own child for the first time, was a completely different experience. Pushing all others out of the water!
