So easily

Despite feeling that Jenny wasn't very receptive to his explanation and feeling somewhat discouraged by her responses, Jason wanted to at least explain his side of the story once. As he didn't know when the second chance for him to explain would be, he needed to make the most of this time. "Secondly, I know I put my hands on him and I shouldn't have, but believe me when I tell you that I restrained myself tremendously before I did. You can even ask Nick or any other student that was present to ask how a situation like that would normally end up. He was pushing my buttons no matter how calm I remained and I know that he did it on purpose. He wanted me to loose my cool. He must have seen you, or had people instigate you, so that you would see me attacking him. I am telling you Jenny that guy cannot be trusted."

Jenny turned her face back around when she heard that last comment and looked him in the eyes. "Are you done now?" Though from Jenny's tone he could tell that what he had said hadn't been enough, he had said what he deemed important. So, he nodded and braced himself for what was to come. "Then it is my turn. You say that you are sorry, but nothing you say comes across as anything resembling an apology. Only excuses and you end it all with an accusation and a lovely 'cannot be trusted'. Apparently you think I cannot be trusted either. You know damn well that you investigating him instead of trusting me when I asked you to would have caused enough trouble, but instead of letting it end there, you figure out a way to do the most damage you can without dirtying your own hands. All so you can say, 'It wasn't me who did it'."

Jason tried to intervene and was saying, "It's not like that." and "I didn't mean it like that". But at that moment Jenny was unreachable. "Well you ARE the one who gave the information to your father instead of using what you found to allow Max HELP his father do the right thing. What did you think your father would do if he got information like this? Go and hold him by his hand to help solve his mess? They are affiliated companies, not college buddies. You knew that your father would cut ties with his father's company and what kind of damage that would do. So, you may not have pulled the trigger, but you certainly handed your father the loaded gun and then wiped your hands clean. Pretending like you didn't just number the days of someone's livelihood. Pretending like you didn't just betray me. Sleeping peacefully next to me, like it was nothing at all.

Even if we pretend that what you did to his father was okay and not your fault in any way shape or form. How about you putting your hands on him? Even that you spin around and turn into his fault. Sure, maybe he was provoking you a bit, but was that any force to use on someone that was simply venting his frustrations from the problems you caused? That is kicking a man when he is already down. I went to see him in the infirmary and his entire back was bruised. He was sent to the hospital and he told me that the doctor said three of his back ribs were bruised and two of his front ribs. He deserved to suffer all that for a few words spoken in anger? Is that 'cool' of yours broken so easily? And lastly, you claim that he cannot be trusted but do you have any proof to back those words up?"

Jason felt reluctant to tell Jenny what he had based those words on. She had already gotten so angry over what he had said up till now and he almost felt that he had made matters even worse with his explanation instead of making things better. But he couldn't just give up now because regardless of if he continued or stopped now, his only other option was waiting it out and that still did not seem like a good option. So, with some hesitation he told Jenny what his informant had found out while he tried to defend himself once more. "Though we couldn't find anything on him or his relationship with that girlfriend of his, he was so clean that that made him suspicious in itself. To use the words of the guy that looked into him, 'He is hiding his tracks better than an adulterer'. There were no messages exchanged between the two of them, no pictures of them together, no evidence of them going out on dates, nothing. If you want, I can show you the original findings and you can draw your own conclusion. I admit that the way I went about this situation wasn't the best way, but I did ask other people for advise and I picked the option with the least chance of damage for us."

Thinking back and taking in Jenny's words Jason added, "In hindsight I could have known what my father would do, but that does not mean that his father didn't deserve what was coming. If my father had reported him, he could have faced jail time. And by ignoring the information, I could have risked my father getting into trouble instead." And finished his words with a strong, unyielding look and a hint of annoyance. "You should also know that me helping that guy was not an option. Just because you insist on being friends with him, does not mean that I have to be his friend too. Me not reporting him or selling the information to his enemies was already me showing mercy. To me that guy is as shady as they come and his father is proving to not be any better."
