Sense of insecurity

Nick, followed his friends to have a bite to eat with the others before he took his leave to prepare what needed to be prepared. This being among others, decorations for the room, getting a few snacks and magazines that Elizabeth enjoyed to have during her stay at the hospital, and last but not least filling out the paperwork for their addition to the family registry. Once he bought what was needed, he asked his father-in-law and their friends to take care of hanging the decorations in place, a request they happily complied with. While they checked that off his list, Nick focused on the next task on his to-do list.

Just as he was about to step out the hospital to get what he deemed necessities for Elizabeth, Jenny stopped him in his tracks. "Ho there buddy. Where do you think you are going with your wife in there giving birth?" A bit rushed Nick replied, "I am preparing for when she comes out of the delivery room. There are things I need to do and things I need to get." Jenny shook her head. "You are going nowhere. The only thing you need to do, is wait here for your wife and son to come out and be there for them. All other things we can do for you. What more is on your list?" With a sense of bewilderment Nick told her what more needed to be done as he obediently returned to a place where he could keep an eye on the doors of the delivery room.

In his worried, nervous state he had forgotten to relay one of his tasks to Jenny. Afraid of leaving, after being so clearly instructed not to by someone who quite frankly frightened him in a way he could not explain in words, he looked around to find someone who could tell her for him or do it themselves. With his mind preoccupied by the thoughts of his Lizzy in pain, his son potentially coming into the world any minute now and the fear of the strict Jenny, he even managed to forget the phone that was waiting to make itself useful in his pocket. Luckily, Jason stepped out not long after that thought had entered Nick's mind and he called out to him.

Jason, who was about to start searching for his heavily pregnant wife, who appeared to have been bored a bit too much by the imposed restrictions of him and the family and had now started running around doing God knows what, fought back his impatience when replying to his already nervous friend. A state he hadn't expected him to get into on this day or ever for that matter. He had been so calm throughout the pregnancy that he had imagined that Nick would take the finish line of the pregnancy just as well. A prediction that time had proven him wrong in.

The reason for his friend's worried state came from a certain sense of insecurity. Though Nick was plenty smart, handsome and wealthy. Though he had always been a good husband and most of the time was even a great husband to Elizabeth. Always doing the best he could in the best way he knew how. In the back of his mind he still saw himself as the playboy that he used to be. Each time he failed Elizabeth by dropping the ball and was less than the great husband he always aimed to be, these thoughts were strengthened. Even more so since they discovered she was pregnant. He had just recently accepted his new role as husband and was thoroughly enjoying it, when a new, much greater and much more difficult role was thrown in his path.

A role which he, from time to time, did not feel ready for at all and was even overwhelmed by. Worrying if he would be able to give his son proper advise, if he would be a good example for him, if he was the right person to show him what a man should be like. Though these ideas had been brushed off by Elizabeth more than once, now that the time for their son to arrive was so close and he could not be with her as he came into the world, these thoughts managed to wash over him once more. Causing him to be a bit ditzy and act so nervously.

"What's wrong?" Jason asked in the calmest way possible. "Well, I hate to ask you but Jenny has me confined to this area of the hospital and I forgot to tell her one of the tasks that I was responsible for. So, I was wondering if you could let her know on my behalf or perhaps you can go and pick my parents up from the airport yourself." A bit confused Jason asked him, "Why didn't you just call her instead of nervously waiting for someone to walk by?" That option only occurring to him now that it was being pointed out, made him reply in astonishment at his own stupidity, "Oh right. My phone. I completely forgot about that."

Jason sighed as he dropped his head down for a brief moment, before saying, "I take it that my wife is running about then to do the things you were supposed to do?" Nick nodded anxiously, as he was reminded of another thought that had slipped his mind. Namely, that he had allowed Jason's expecting wife to take care of his mess. Expecting Jason to get upset at this piece of information he had braced himself, but he was only faced with another sigh on his part and received a calm, "Okay." before he walked off to help his friend and find his mischievous wife!

Here we are with today's chapter. Though I am not certain if I will be able to publish two chapters per day for all days of this week, I will do my best to do it for more days than usual.

For today this will be all but for tomorrow I have good hope that a second chapter can be expected!
