Selfish reasons

With a small sigh Jenny dropped herself on the bed as Jason placed Charlie in the second crib on Jenny's side of the bed. After he had been fed and burped, Jason swaddled him back up so that he could go to sleep again. Jenny turned her head towards where Jason was standing and watched him carefully place their son down and put special pillows on each side of his body to make sure he couldn't turn over in his sleep. She loved watching him take care of Charlie and had enjoyed every minute of it during their stay in the hospital. She was sure she was going to miss it when Jason would resume his work in a few days.

With Charlie's birth being delayed and Jenny having a hard time during those days, Jason had already taken quite some time off to stay by her side before the actual birth. Now that their son was finally here, he didn't have many days at home left. Even with Jason reassuring her that he was fine with not returning to work yet, that he could stay at home longer if she wanted him to, that he himself wanted to stay longer, Jenny refused to keep him home for even one more day than what was originally planned. Just because of her own dependency and because of her clingy side resurfacing after having him around to spoil her for so many days, she couldn't keep him from his responsibilities any longer than what was absolutely necessary. So, she had made peace with the idea of her mother replacing Jason in the help she needed to take care of baby Charlie. With her mother by her side 24/7, there wasn't a single reason for Jason staying at home with her for even a single extra day, right?

By telling herself that Jason could only postpone his responsibilities at the office and his work for his classes for so long before it would cause trouble, she counted down the days of his paternity leave. Her potentially causing trouble was a very powerful reason for Jenny to hold herself back because that was something she absolutely didn't want. Especially after having caused trouble for him already once, causing her to run away back then. In the end, after a lengthy discussion, Jason decided to give in. Though he hadn't given up the idea completely, he didn't want to agitate the then still pregnant Jenny any further. Now that their son was here and Jenny was no longer pregnant, he wanted to revisit the idea. In the time between their first conversation and now, he had been able to think things out a bit more and had the answers to Jenny's questions from back then ready. Making him more confident that they would be able to at least find a middle ground.

So, when Charlie's sleeping arrangements had been taken care of, he dropped himself down next to Jenny before bringing up the subject of him staying at home for a longer period of time. She had already turned her face in his direction, lifting her head and propping it up on her elbow, when Jason said, "Jenny, I know we talked about this before and you were quite against it back then but I want to talk with you about me starting work a bit later." Unexpectedly Jenny didn't react annoyed but softly said, "Yeah...I have been thinking about that too. Though I have nothing but selfish reasons for it." Jason looked at Jenny with a surprised expression as he turned his face towards hers.

"Well, selfish or not, as long as you aren't against it, I have thought of a way that helps us both. I have worked on a way that at least allows me to have three days at home instead of two and be at home for half of each day of the remaining days. I can do my office work from home but the two group projects for two of my subjects requires me to be on campus for a few days a week. Since you don't want me taking a semester off or request doing those projects by myself, I asked the teacher to put me in any team that was able to work on the projects in the afternoon. That way I can help you with taking care of Charlie in the mornings and allow you to sleep in a bit. Once you are dressed and you have had your breakfast, I can do some work for the office and resume that after I return from campus. My secretary can bring me any documents that need signing or otherwise requires my attention. If need be, I can even head into the office when you two have gone to sleep."

Jenny listened quietly at Jason's plans and after he was done explaining, she was happy to find out that she could at least give in to some of her selfish desires. With him not delaying any of his work but just making use of some of the flexibility his positions allowed him, one of which being the VP of the company and the other being a top student that everyone wanted on their team, she could be a good wife and a selfish one all at the same time. With a smile on her face and a soft "Uhn" she approved his plans, before she lowered herself to give him a kiss and show her appreciation for his thoughtfulness.

Jason was happy that they had found their middle ground and with Jenny's way of thanking him as well. Moving his hand towards her back and placing it just between her shoulder blades, while the other moved towards the small of her back to keep her from going away. Allowing him to enjoy this moment for a bit longer before his body would signal that the time to stop had arrived, forcing him to hold back before it would be too late. Jenny simply chuckled against his lips as she felt Jason's arms sealing her in before she gave in to his wishes and continued their love filled kiss.
