Prism mansion

With gritted teeth the aunts agreed, happy that their torment was finally almost over. They turned to the crowd and grabbed their attention by clinking a spoon against one of their wine glasses. When everyone had quieted down and turned to face them, they did what they promised and let Jenny's threat shine through to others who might have similar plans as they had earlier. Though they laughed as they delivered each word, in their hearts they felt nothing more than humiliation and anger. After they had kept their end of the bargain, they turned to Jason and had him promise that the matter had now been resolved. After getting a silent nod from him, they disappeared into the crowd.

"Though I can't say I didn't enjoy the show, I have to ask, what was that all about?" Stephen asked after the aunts had left.

"Sorry father, I didn't mean to drag you guys into this nor did I plan on making such a spectacle out of everything, but when I got the chance to teach them a lesson and get some payback on Jason's behalf, I couldn't let that opportunity pass by. I hope you don't mind."

"No, not at all. Knowing the kind of person you are, I am sure you were much kinder to them, then they were to you. You saved them some face and tried to teach them something for their own good and for the good of the family. So, don't feel too bad about it." Jenny felt relieved as she was afraid her impulsivity and partial rudeness might have upset her parents- or grandparents-in-law.

After that the rest of the party went on as hoped and they were all able to enjoy themselves to the fullest, even leading into the sleepover, which brings us back to the present with Jenny getting ready to start the day. Jenny washed her face before heading back to the room and grabbing the clothes from the bed as she freed up the bathroom for Jason. She unfolded the clothes and looked them over before giving a satisfied nod and getting dressed. Once Jenny and Jason were both done getting dressed in the outfits his grandmother had chosen for them, they walked out into the hall and towards the breakfast room.

Other than the playful spat between Jason and Jenny, the morning of the Westwood family had started peaceful at the Prism mansion, which had earned its name due to the special glass that the top part of each window was forged from. That glass caused the sunlight to break, like the effect caused by a prism, decorating the walls and the floors with bright colourful lights. This was why Jason's grandmother had decorated the gardens with all sorts of bright coloured flowers to match the inside and the furniture consisted of mostly light colours, to allow the touch of colour in the home to come mostly from the incoming light and to prevent it from looking tacky. All of them had gathered at the breakfast table, only Jenny and Jason were missing.

Once Jenny walked out of the room, her attention was immediately caught by the effects caused by the glass. She for one seemed to love the place as she walked the halls filled with admiration. The effects of the glass wasn't shown last night as there was far too much artificial light to discern what was caused by those lights and what by the sun. Now it was all too clear and all too wonderful. With 'Oohs' and 'Ahs" they reached the room, where the others had already been seated waiting for the both of them and for the food to be served as they wanted to eat as a family. When they came in, his grandparents faces lit up. "Wonderful, now that you are here as well I'll have them bring in the food."

Jenny saw they were the last to enter and all the plates seemed untouched. She quickly apologized. "Sorry, did we keep you waiting for long. If we knew you were waiting for us to start breakfast, I would have set an alarm." "Nonsense dear, quickly take a seat. The decision to wait was made by the four of us, so no need for you to feel guilty or apologize. I don't know what you like, so I had the kitchen prepare all sorts of things. If there is anything missing, let me know." Jenny shook her head as she saw one person after another come out carrying large platters with all sorts of dishes and buns and breakfast sweets. With such a large spread, there would surely be something to her liking.

Nonetheless the worried grandmother turned to Jason and said, "Jason dear, be sure to help Jenny with picking things she would like. I don't want her to hold back out of shyness or modesty." Jason nodded before taking a seat next to Jenny. Once all the platters and baskets had been carried inside, Jason did what he had promised his grandmother, and filled a plate for Jenny before picking something for himself. Feeling assured that her guest had enough to eat, the grandmother started on the plate that her husband had prepared for her. This appeared another tradition of the Westwood men as Stephen too had filled a plate for Susan before getting something for himself. Once everyone had grabbed what they wanted to eat, they all started a sun-filled breakfast.

After breakfast Jenny went on the walk she had promised grandmother the night before and the grandmother did what she had promised. Now that all the misunderstandings were cleared up and Jenny had managed to obtain an invitation for a second visit, with or without Jason, she left the mansion content along with her parents-in-law and Jason. With happy feelings all around, the ride back to Westwood mansion was a lot more cheerful than the cold, quiet ride to the party had been. Having decided to go along with Jason's suggestion regarding their truce, Jenny asked her father-in-law a question that was surprising to all. "Father, can I ask you a favour? I want to earn the money for Jason's gift by myself, is there a job at your company where I can be of use?"

Dear readers, though I said at the previous chapter that I was considering signing the contract offered by webnovels, once I read what signing meant, I decided to decline the offer.

By signing I will lose a lot of my freedom regarding the content, future content and the length of the story.

So, I am pleased to inform that ADM will remain free and I hope that my story will find its way to other (potential) readers by reviews or sheer luck. Till then I am happy to write for the people who have been with me so far and I hope you will continue to join me as we move along :D
