Part of the family

As she saw the familiar stores, heard the familiar language and as they drove into the all too familiar street in the familiar small town, Jenny took a deep breath. She was feeling that it was indeed true, that there was no place like home. Though Jason had done all he could to make her feel like home at the Westwood mansion and she had definitely found a place in her heart for her home there, this would always be her real home. The place where she grew up and her mother and brothers lived. Jason could tell that she was affected by their return here and glanced over his shoulder in her direction. Jenny felt his eyes on her and turned to him with a smile to assure him she was okay. As the end of their ride was in sight, Jason was feeling glad that he had them staying in a hotel instead of her mom's house. This was because the car-ride had proven that his predictions from before were right and might as well have been called premonitions. The moment her brother had come, he had been separated from Jenny. Her brother had smilingly forced him into the front seat next to him and had Jenny sit in the back. Using some excuse of wanting someone to talk to while driving and wanting to get to know him better, as reason for him for him to be unable to sit in the back. However, when he did sit in the front, her brother barely spoke a word to him and was talking to Jenny instead. Putting Jason in an awkward position. His treatment here was a big contrast to how he was treated in England. There he was king of the jungle, being able to do and say whatever he wanted, having people worship the ground he walked on and desperately struggling to gain his attention. But here, he was just a guy trying to get on the good side of his future in-laws, forcing him to swallow back his words and accept this treatment from her brother. Thankfully, they had arrived and he would finally be "reunited" with Jenny again and meet some more friendly faces. Especially Jenny's third brother was quite laid back and had somewhat accepted him. His biggest ally had to be Mary, Jenny's mother, who had always been very welcoming to him. She had even been part of the reason he had been able to get with Jenny in the first place. If not for her help, Jenny wouldn't have spoken to him after their altercation back when they had come to England for the first time. And indeed, her mom did not disappoint. The moment she saw them walk up the path in the front yard, Mary had rushed to the door. Opening it before her brother had the chance to insert his key in the lock. She first grabbed Jenny and pulled her in a tight, warm hug. Her eyes glistening with tears of joy of seeing her baby girl again, something one always remained in the eyes of their mother. But when she let go, she pulled Jason in for a hug just as tight, taking him by surprise. Jenny saw his reaction and couldn't help but chuckle. Even her brother was forced to smile. Jason thought he would get a handshake and three kisses on the cheek, like is normally done with guests, but his hand was pushed away as soon as he reached it out. Treating him as part of the family instead. This reaction, though unexpected, was much better. At least he seemed to have the approval of the person Jenny cared most about. He returned her hug with a soft expression on his face and followed her inside. Once he stepped into the living room, he was met with the scents of the lovely food Mary had prepared. Each dish smelling and looking better than the other. They all quickly sat around the table to start the feast. They each took their seat and Jason was finally being allowed to sit next to Jenny, even if it was only due to her mother's interference. If it were up to her brothers, he would be stuck sitting in between two of them. Jenny made him a plate, explaining what everything was and they enjoyed a well-made dinner. They had sat at that table for over an hour and still all the food Mary had prepared wasn't finished. Jason had already eaten way more than what he could handle, because he hadn't taken into account the customs in Jenny's culture, wondering when this meal would end. Each time he finished the food, Mary would put a new serving onto his plate. Not wanting to reject her mother, he continued to eat whatever was handed to him. It wasn't until he was clearly struggling that Jenny told him "Leave some food on your plate, otherwise she will keep scoop up food for you." And indeed, the moment he didn't finish all the food that was on his plate, Mary finally looked content and said "Are you full my dear?" in her own language. Jenny translated for him and he nodded quickly in agreement, earning him the soft laughter of Jenny. As everyone had finished eating, Mary started clearing the table and Jenny took the time to explain the eating rules. "In Eastern culture it is a disgrace if your guests leave your home hungry. So, they will continue to serve you food until you are unable to finish what is in front of you. If you don't have a second serving, it means you didn't like the food, forcing you to make wise decisions when scooping up food for yourself. So, remember, when you visit an Eastern household, you should always save room for at least a second serving and if possible, a third. Don't let yourself be tempted by how good the food looks." Now Jason finally understood why Jenny had started with placing small amounts of food on his plate, when she had started off the meal. He suddenly regretted his arrogant words telling her "I can eat more than that Jen, don't hold back!"

Here is the first chapter of today and Jason is having his first formal visit to Jenny's house, making him experience the struggles of pleasing the in-laws.

I hope you enjoy and I will be back here later today with the second chapter
