Out of sight

Jenny's tardiness for first period hadn't gone unnoticed. Unsurprisingly it was noticed by Elizabeth, who had been worried and had sent her multiple messages before and during her ride over. It was also noticed by Max as he was her desk mate and her co-class representative. He had noticed when she hadn't shown up in time for the morning prep-work for their class representative tasks, but the first to notice was by someone who wasn't even in her class, which was Jason himself. He had shown up early and had been looking out of the window from his classroom, waiting for Jenny to show up.

He had personally arranged the car to pick her up at seven, because that was the time she would have to leave to be on time for her morning tasks. However by eight she still hadn't shown up. He had wanted to call her, but figured that she wouldn't want to hear from him right now. So, he decided against it. When it was time for first period to start, he grabbed his phone from his pocket again and started typing a message. But before he finished the first sentence, he deleted the words again and locked the screen. Gripping the phone so tightly that it was a miracle it didn't break as his knuckles had turned almost completely white.

Every time the urge came to contact Jenny, which was almost every two minutes that she was late, he reminded himself that she had been safely in one of the rooms of their hotel. He had arranged for the staff to keep an eye on her and the staff member responsible for keeping an eye on her last night had reported that she had arrived earlier that afternoon, she had seemed fine and hadn't left her room since. She couldn't have gotten lost either, because he had told the driver her schedule and to be parked right outside the door. Considering he hadn't heard anything from the driver, it should mean that they should have found each other and were probably even on their way. So, he should stop worrying. But as they weren't on speaking terms at the moment and he couldn't ask her where she was or call her to wake her up, a small sense of worry remained and it stayed until he saw her arrive. All rushed and focused. He chuckled subconsciously, silencing the entire class, who couldn't believe what they had heard. However, Jason didn't notice a thing and didn't turn away from the window until Jenny was out of sight.

Though he wasn't paying attention at all during the time he had been waiting for Jenny and it had already been his turn to answer the teacher's question regarding the homework, no one dared to say anything about it or disturb him. As long as they could continue class and he wasn't causing trouble for the them or the students they were trying to teach, they had learned that it was best to stay out of Jason's way. So, when he turned his focus back to class, they all pretended like they hadn't noticed and continued what they were doing as if he wasn't even there. All except the friends who exchanged a meaningful with each other. The rest of the classes went by like normal and before they knew it, it was time for lunch.

Elizabeth was standing by Jenny's desk with her bag in hand and looked a bit hesitantly as she asked, "What are you going to do about lunch?" Jenny hadn't really thought about it. Almost from the first day she started, she had been having lunch with Jason and the others on the roof. Now that that was no longer an option, she felt a little lost for a moment. That was until Max suggested, "Why don't you have lunch with Madeline and I?" Seeing Jenny and Jason arrive separately and not seeing him during the small break, he put two and two together and figured out that they hadn't been able to make up over the weekend. He had to make the most of this time that they were apart. So, while appearing like a good friend helping her when she was in a tight spot, he started planning his next move and was getting ready to take advantage of their current state. Under Elizabeth's glaring eye, Jenny agreed with a big smile. "That sounds like a wonderful idea. That way we can catch up on what we were supposed to do this morning."

Before letting Jenny leave with Max reluctantly, Elizabeth pulled her aside and said, "Are you sure you don't want me or one of the other girls to eat with you in the cafeteria? I am sure Nick won't mind." Jenny shook her head. "No, just because Jason and I are fighting right now and won't eat with each other, doesn't mean you girls should get separated from the ones you love just to accompany me. I'll be fine. This might even be better. This way I can get the class representatives things done while I enjoy my lunch." Elizabeth looked skeptically at Jenny, but she continued to smile while she gestured for her to get going. "Well, since I don't have a better solution I will let you go with him for now, but keep an eye out on him. He isn't as innocent as he seems. He is only a wolf in sheep's clothes."
